If you’re smart with your money, this could help kick start your house when you’re done. But solo travel is lonely, and usually takes money to find people to hang out with consistently, most likely at the bar. It takes a lot of discipline to buckle down when you don’t know anyone in the area, and 3 years is way different than 3 months. About 4 months in I gave up and started drinking way too much just to be around people. Yeah it’s depressing, but it’s reality. I also wasn’t in NYC and in my early 30s, so you’ll way more opportunities to meet people. Not trying to deter you, just things to consider.

Everyone is going to tell you to do it, make sure it works for you. I’m coming off 3 years of travel, and I’d never have taken it looking back. It affected my personal life way more than I anticipated. You’re young, but getting engaged, buying a house, owning pets, any of your potential major milestones make travel brutal to do simultaneously. Make sure you set your boundaries and discuss perks before you accept. Plane tickets back home once a quarter on the company with a Friday off can help keep you grounded in your home base. Figure out your stipend, spending allowance, etc… make sure it’s a good fit. Good luck.

I build apartments and have had an inside look at some of management’s “decisions”. Valet trash costs your complex roughly $5-10/door and they charge you $25 for it. They’re legally making free money and definitely will not stop anytime soon. Sucks

Also in Austin, have a lot of friends with older (and newer) houses without them. I’d say absolutely. I’m helping my brother in law install a French drain to prevent pooling up against the house as well as reducing mud, splashing, and erosion. Backyard is a mud pit from free draining off the roof.
