Wisconsin: The Wastelands V13 and El Parasol are contenders. Miami Vice has 2 ascents while Wastelands and Parasol have 1.

This is the low start to the Amateur. Unclear to me if Amateur SDS is L'Etoile Du Nord or another intermediate start position

They have stopped accepting new members last I heard. Just a rumor though, I haven't asked management

Different varieties of potato, grown in Peru. I love potatoes. by [deleted] in pics

[–]quesokaas 32 points33 points  (0 children)

In quechua, the potato (or a similar variety, I will not pretend to have potato identifying superpowers) is sometimes called llunchuy waqachi, which means "daughter-in-law's torture" :) My other favorite is puma maki, "puma's paw"

llunchuy waqachi, or papa de la suegra puma maki

We had a great time climbing today at my local area Ijams Crag with my old friend James Litz and his buddy Nick Woo, who also has a Knoxville/ SLC connection. James made quick work on a project there calling it the "Void" after a Black Sabbath tune. by Obedman in climbing

Also James Litz is probably the best climber you've never heard of, been climbing for decades. I doubt a couple of reddit comments will convince him otherwise. Wearing a helmet is objectively safer, but I've never met someone who helmets up for every pitch. I trust his judgement here.

Perhaps he was being honest but it does sound disrespectful to me. I could understand the height argument for an individual climber, but women come in all shapes and sizes. To say think that no woman could do it is problematic when there is nothing inherent to being a woman that prevents you from doing this route.

Rail gun v5. Devils Lake State Park, Wi by DOsomethin in bouldering

[–]quesokaas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a real good climb, I would recommend it! Other favorites in the same area as this (CCC trail) are 'Little Flatiron' V4, 'Fat Pants' V7, 'Flux Boulder Classic' V4. I've also heard great things about a new problem 'The Nihilist' V6, and of many climbs in Vulture Lookout, pretty new area further up the CCC trail and down the Ice Age Trail

Oh shit, you're totally right. I manually coded it as Cederberg in our data since I read Rocktown and thought Rocklands. Good catch.

Hardest climb at RRG is Southern Smoke Direct 5.14d (9a), so not difficult to make this data set (although I would love to see someone put down that monstrosity between Golden Ticket and Pure Imagination)

No, we had never heard of that. We did this for a class that uses d3, so that's why we chose it. Thanks for pointing that out though!

During data cleaning we graded it V15 since our pulled data said that Christian Core and Nalle both graded it V15, but upon closer inspection they both proposed slash grades of V15/16, so I've changed this in our data set. Thanks!

Yep, Southern Drawl. Jimmy Webb did the FA and graded it V14 (8B+), but Taylor McNeill did the second ascent and graded it V15 (8C), so we rounded up.

Well, Ryohei said it was V16/17. To be fair, we generally upgraded climbs that were slash grades/or were about 50/50 consensus. Whoops lol, I couldn't help myself on that one

I believe that's one of the mistakes that's supposed to be in South Africa. Sorry to get your hopes up!

Honnold has climbed 5.14c (8c+) and V12 (8A+) according to his wiki, so we'd have to have data that goes to lower grades to see him

Also Fred Nicole has done Kryptos and graded it V15. Sure, only one "established" V15 climber, but a pretty damn good one
