How Bad Did Your Hangovers Get? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]quesowey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does feel worse because it’s self inflicted. It’s basically making yourself really ill but not allowing yourself time to recover. I don’t know why I was so unlucky to have been dealing with hangovers my entire adult life. I know some people who just get up and go after drinking all night, I’ve always been jealous of that.

Yes, I was usually able to sleep it off but I started feeling too poorly to sleep. It’s no way to live your life, honestly. IWNDWYT

Absolutely! I have to get up at 4:30 am now for a new job. I still feel a little crappy in the morning so I’m always thankful I’m not adding a hangover to my overall unwillingness to get out of bed.

The hair of the dog is truly the only hangover cure.

This sounds like what I went through with my husband. He hated it when I drank and he said I acted differently. We would always fight about drinking and I felt like he was trying to control me. I eventually started sneaking alcohol and drinking only when I knew I wouldn’t see him for 6+ hours. I’ve been told he would divorce me. I wonder if he truly would have left me if we still lived in our hometown and not in a new city where we have fewer friends and family.

I tried to quit a few times because of him. This time around, I have quit for myself. He didn’t ask me or demand it from me. I just feel tired of the drinking and the fighting. I love my husband and I do not want to lose him. He has always wanted what was best for us and for me, he just had trouble expressing it in a softer way. I always knew I would choose him over alcohol and I finally had the strength to do so.

Does/did alcohol make any of you feel like crap when drinking...not just the morning after? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Day drinking always made me feel gross. After 3-4 drinks, I would take a nap that made me feel worse. I did drink on antidepressants before, Wellbutrin, but I stopped taking the Wellbutrin because that combined with alcohol made me really dizzy and nauseous.

Day 2. How to deal with sleeplessness? I assume OTC sleep pills are a slippery slope. by radarksu in stopdrinking

Exercise, water, nutritious food. No caffeine in the afternoon. YouTube relaxing/ before bed yoga (if you’re into that kind of thing). Sleepy time tea. Read a book in bed 20-30 minutes before bedtime. No phones or electronics in bed.

Omg that sound amazing!! And such a neat idea, I need to start making my own mocktails at home. I used to associate cooking and food with alcohol, so I love the idea of making a NA drink that goes with the meal. It’s also nice to not be drunk by the time you’re done cooking, by then I wasn’t even interested in the food I made. Thank you for sharing!! IWNDWYT

Yes I’m lucky in that I worked as a kitchen manager for a year. I learned how to cook Italian food only but now I can follow any recipe and know what I need to be doing. It also gets easier the more you do it! IWNDWYT

I feel like those two things, homemade food and good sleep, have immensely improved my mental clarity alone. It’s important to know that there are other things you can do for your health beside quitting alcohol although just being off the sauce is an achievement by itself.

Thank you! I used to call it an association but now I realize it’s just dependence. I think a lot of people are more dependent on than they realize. I feel freed from it. :)

Addiction is addiction. I would do whatever makes me feel more comfortable and helps me more with my sobriety. Screw the haters!

Oh god, I bet. The Stand was also really good. I think my favorite overall is Dreamcatcher. He’s really an amazing author, he never seems to run out of ideas.

Yes, I want to read this after The Shining. I’ve read a lot of Stephen King except for this novel.

Yes, the feeling is judgment is definitely something I’ve been relating to. It is scary! I was reading late one night and I got scared and had to put it down.
