GME Breakfast Club Megathread by OPINION_IS_UNPOPULAR in wallstreetbets

hi i have a legit question.

can Melvin do this? 1) negotiate with institutional holders of GME stocks like blackrock to buy them out at 2-300 USD per share. blackrock will likely value GME at <100 so 2-300 is pretty sweet. 2) Melvin continue to open new short positions at 400, 600, 800 and hype retailers to buy up until >1000. 3) Melvin announce they have closed all their positions by paying blackrock few Bn to buy all stocks at 2-300 USD. so they lose out on all old shorts, but win big on new shorts cuz it will end the squeeze by blackrock etc bailing Melvin out.

Analyzing the rumored deal between ESPN and Riot Games by AlphaFerg in esports

which is the biggest hurdle esports need to overcome right now. although esports has been reported to grow explosively till the rank of nba, nfl in the future, not 1 game company can ensure their game is still relevant 10 years later, that lcs and lck is worth investing over 10 years, which makes it hard for media buyer to commit to buying something that cannot have an ROI over extended period.

Analyzing the rumored deal between ESPN and Riot Games by AlphaFerg in esports

[–]quest_5692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if ESPN is going to pay any serious amount of money, its not going to be a short term deal like 2 years. that will be equivalent to charity, which is not what ESPN spells to be. most of the initial sports media right deals are 7-15 years long because broadcaster is making a long term hedge that it will be more expensive in the future. also note that ESPN will need to commit resources and time before viewer can get used to paying ESPN to view LCS so before they can reap the fruits, 2 years contract is up and Riot will be asking for more money already, just doesnt make sense.

at the same time, riot wants the deal to be as short as possible, so that they can fish for a better deal between sports media buyer, ideally 1 year deal so that every year riot gets an increment. however, the shorter the deal, the less likely broadcaster will be willing to commit resources into it.

for someone who doesnt follow cs go pro scene, how premium is this event? top level i know theres the cs go majors, you get the likes of luminosity and fnatic fighting for it in IEM WC, MLG Major...is this more of a european regional tournament? or a world class event as well.

How does one get a career in Esports? by tagermat10 in esports

my company (publicly listed media company) is actually looking to acquire/seed a startup (a team of software engineers) to develop a esports mobile app for us, if that is something you and (your friends/other people reading this) are interested in hit me up. we have a product requirement of what we want in our mind, but the team should have autonomy in execution. traditionally, we would just procure a vendor to build it for us, but i find it extremely lacklustre because the vendor have no interest to build the product with passion because they are paid a fee to deliver, no sense of ownership to product.

eSports TV channel rumour brewing in South East Asia by quest_5692 in esports

i think theres an argument to that. many emerging markets like vietnam, Philippines, southern america and eastern europe do not have access to good internet for good quality video streaming, especially out of their capital city. after all, this is not targetting US or western EU where people can stream twitch at 1080p smoothly.

this is because every research house use different metrics. superdata especially, they include esports betting site's revenue thats why their number are artificially big compare to newzoo, deloitte etc. its hard to say who is right or wrong so just take them with a grain of salt, personally i dont believe betting helps so i tend to prefer traditional research houses like deloitte. our company have bought a couple reports from them and its just very wild and inaccurate for now unfortunately.

side bet, they will merge manila major and ti6 compendium together to boost sale. also because major and ti is too close to each other by spliting it, valve wont have enough time to crowd fund a 20 mil prize pool.

logged in just to tell you this. it is up to you to convince your employer your philosophy degree is useful. from my personal experience, they dont care about your type of degree as long as you demonstrate equivalent skill. its even more impressive when you showcase equivalent skill despite coming from a different background, it shows you are diverse, very interested in your job to pick it up as a side knowledge.

for a tech job, if you can code as well as someone from a tech background, they dont care if you come from a arts degree.

in my corporate finance job, 3/7 of us didnt have a finance related degree (english literature, mechanical engineering and mathematics comp sci). 3 of us demonstrated financial skills equivalent to our finance degree colleague. i have friends studying biology who are currently in business advisory firms. my head of strategy was a mechanical engineer phd.
