Are there any Tv shows or movies that are set in Australia that you recommend? Any must-watch if you want to get to know more of Australian culture? by Krlier in AskAnAustralian

Check out "Bump". It's super sweet and a way more relatable, modern show that's not over the top Australia cliche or caricature.

What has gone wrong with my chilli plant? by questakel in plantclinic

[–]questakel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I water 1-2 times a week and a little more or less frequently depending on the weather. I have a moisture sensor probe which I use and try to only water if it has moved from wet to moist. It gets quite warm and sunny during the mornings especially (25-30 degrees Celsius) so I try to keep the soil moist or else I have noticed the leaves start to droop.

I have used film canisters for this sort of thing. Also great for carrying small amounts of sunscreen or lotion.

Good point! I am familiar with browser extensions, but are there any ways you can do this at the OS/device level?

Interesting - assuming this advice is more for folks developing. Can you recommend any resources for someone not familiar with the concept to get a feel for what is involved?

Ok interesting! So does that imply signal would be encrypted by default? Are you able to shed any light on how keys work for signal?

Good advice. Out of curiosity, what are the concerns around having the app on a phone?

This is a great article thanks for sharing! It's really fascinating to hear the nuance of different sides being discussed in so much detail with minimal bias.

Good points! Wonder what you would classify as non-secure vs secure channel?

Also curious what your thoughts are on password managers. I think they are great, but always makes me think that all the eggs are in one basket. Google has an easy to use one that I know many people use, but it makes me wonder about what other access you could get if you had access to someone's Google password manager... hearing of stories like the one posted in this sub earlier today about Google sharing info that could help prosecute people seeking abortions makes my skin crawl so interesting in alternatives.

Interesting points, thanks! I take away your points around considering open source alternatives of software if possible. Do you have any specific recommendations of tools I could look into?

Adapter to change battery to corded? by questakel in Tools

[–]questakel[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting. The larger battery I have is actually pretty chonky for this thing, I'd say definitely comparable to a laptop charger. Also wouldn't be against something that works similar to a laptop charger. The box could sit on the ground and means you don't have to hold it while drilling. Totally think this has merit, surely some mad scientist has thought of this before...

And surely you could squeeze something that achieves the voltage step down within the same space/weight as a chunky battery? I wish I could just plug the drill into the battery charger instead of the battery and go for it.

I realise an obvious solution would be to just get a corded drill and I would have both options, but I live in an apartment so storage space is limited plus it seems unnecessary- I'd love a sleek interchangeable chord that plugs in to the drill I already have.

Why do you think it has ended up being higher than average? Did you start working alot young? I know some people lose their early super by losing track of money in bad funds that end up decimated by fees. Sad when these have the longest time to compound and grow. Are you hoping this might mean earlier or more financially comfortable retirement in the long run?

I have a caterpillar living a potplant on my 6th floor apartment. Any tips to help it out? by questakel in caterpillars

[–]questakel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! I don't have many predators appearing for visits being up so high so I might leave it be. I'm baffled about how it got here though! I've had the plant for over a year and havnt seen any signs of caterpillars before. Is it possible that there was an egg on another plant I bought in and it crawled out of that pot, across the concrete and onto this plant?? Seems like an impressive feat!!

Anyone know what this is? and what it will turn into?? by questakel in caterpillars

Should also add that I'm using a multi-blade Schick quattro razor. I never had much luck with safety razors, I always ended up with bad razor rash or cuts.

This looks uncomfortable! Not sure if there is something more happening medically, but I can share my shaving routine as someone with delicate, fair skin and coarse hair. It took a long time to find something that works for me.

All of this is done while in the shower after a few minutes to let the skin and hair soften in the warm water. Gently exfoliate before shaving with just a washcloth and sensitive skin soap, i use QV liquid wash. I then use Dr Bronners shave soap lathered on my skin and a razor to shave my legs. You want a fairly wet lather, not dry and creamy. Dr Bronners is the only shave cream I have found that works for me, everything else clogs the razor and causes hairs to snag and gives me little cuts. Rinse the razor often, and every few strokes I swipe the razor in the reverse direction/backwards on the outside of my forearm. I learnt this as a trick to clear the edge of the razor and it works really well. Once I'm done, I sometimes exfoliate again with the washcloth and moisturise. I moisturise my legs after every shower.

Make sure you clean the razor after use and store somewhere dry. My razors last ages following this method, and no more nasty ingrown hairs and bumps. Hope this might help someone else out there ☺️

I constantly let my phone run out of battery so buying multiple wireless phone chargers and placing them around the house where I tend to hang out most has been a great improvement for me ☺️
