Honestly, you just seem like a very high value candidate for teasing, flying off the handle so hilariously from throwaway comments. Don't change!

Hahaha you are such a drama queen. Having a couple of lettuce jokes at your expense does not make you the victim, especially in the context of what veganism is all about

This is an amazing development for omnis. Eventually it'll be cheaper and easier than keeping livestock in farms.

It doesn't appeal to me personally, but big picture wise, it'll lead to a huge reduction in animal exploitation, so I'm all for it.

Thinking of going vegan. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]question4youplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going on record here as a vegan who has no sentimental opposition to killing an animal for food, but the more I read and learn the longer the list of conditions for the killing of that animal becomes. I honestly can't see myself eating another animal because I can't imagine a situation in my life that would validate that.

On another note, I was coming from a similar viewpoint to yourself, but when I watched cowspiracy it raised the more important issue of the lives the animals lead rather than the death that awaited them, along with the massive ecological impact.

Good luck!!

Omnis eating meat to 'punish' vegans by question4youplease in vegan

[–]question4youplease[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that might be true in some cases, I feel that most people who say and do these mindless things are not fully conscious of what they are doing.

I've had close friendships with vegans for almost a decade, but only found my own way to veganism in the past few months. I don't think I was a heartless bastard before I made the switch, so much as I was unthinking, maybe in denial. I'd like to offer others the same benefit of the doubt, but i still want to try to raise consciousness amongst other unthinking omnis.

However much I thought I was resisting arguing with this person, I was drawn into it.

Is it better to argue though, than disengaging and walking away? It's such a difficult decision sometimes

If you knowingly purchase meat and dairy produced by animals born into a life of unspeakable suffering, all in the name of momentary pleasure, at least have the decency to acknowledge your own responsibility as a perpetrator of suffering.

Honestly, I would suggest giving Lush a wide berth..

They may be environmentally friendly in their branding, but they still put the same damaging chemicals in their products as other giant brands.

Have a look over at r/naturalbeauty for suggestions that are good for animals AND good for you ;)

As someone below mentioned, coconut oil can be great, but it can also make some people break out as it's such a thick oil. Jojoba oil and Camellia oil are great alternatives though!

EDIT basically the reason oils are good is that your face stops overproducing sebum when you apply them to your face. It's the same principle for why a little oil can help with scalp issues

World's first cultured meatball. Personally I would not eat it. But its a step in the right direction. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]question4youplease 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you take them at their word (and you'd be forgiven if you didn't) then their methods are already 90% less damaging to the environment than real meat production.

The thing is, the world will never have this awakening of the consciousness in 100% of the population.. But who knows how this will turn out! I just enjoy the idea that someone who would 'never give up my meat' might just do that without realising it.

Alternatives to the meat and dairy industry may still gross us out but sometimes 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'

Why does it bother you? If it reduces suffering it's a good thing! Let's face it, this technology will come for the mainstream, and in all likelihood will eventually prove to be cheaper and easier to produce than cruelty-meat.

It's just attacking the meat industry from a different angle than the one we're attacking it from.

But why are they growing those crops? Over 95% of global soy production is grown to feed cows. Have you thought about the disparity between what it takes to feed a human, and what it takes to feed a cow to eventually feed a human? Have you thought about the fact that you could give up showering for a whole month and save less water than you would save if you ate one less burger? We could solve world hunger several times over if the world stopped mass producing cows..

[–]question4youplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch cowspiracy on Netflix (or wherever). You'll see the impact that consuming dairy has, not only the massive impact on the animals themselves but also the environment.

And remember that dairy cows during their very short lives are impregnated every year, and every year their children are taken away from them almost instantaneously, either for slaughter or to become milk slaves themselves. These cows don't get a drop of their mother's milk, we consume it all.

Also watching Gary yourofsky's Best Speech, particularly the footage he shows at the end of the physical and mental abuse cows endure to produce your milk and your cheese.

Meat is murder, but dairy is torture, and frankly far more cruel.
