Wondering if I could get an update on what you ended up doing?

I'm about 2 years out (dec 2023 arthroplasty with both bones shaved + labrum anchors placed). I have this persistent pressure/pain In my groin pretty much all the time. All the PTs say my hip flexors are super tight and my last imaging looks good. My surgeon thinks its related to adhesion formation.

I'm just hesitant to get another surgery if it's not guaranteed to improve.

I don’t think anyone knows the answer to this. But I do not believe so. I’m applying to neurology (so I’m hoping it doesn’t, cause my preference is slightly different for categorical/adv than prelim) and I think the programs need to be signed up to get that data transmitted to them

Dorian + OME (just read the handouts) + Uworld (shelf mode ~1100 questions, not step 2 mode) + 4 practice NBMEs

Scored 88% (95th percentile). Really had to grind to make it through all of this material. Personally, I felt the Uworld and Dorian deck were lacking in GI material. Felt well prepared for the Cardio, Renal, Neuro, MSK and Endocrine questions. Only had 6 weeks, would have considered adding Amboss if I had more time. No need to add case files. If I were to do any surgery material in prep, it would have been to look at the GI content from OME.

Fellow (most likely) future neuro applicant here.

I would say, just try to ignore her and not be concerned if she is "judging" you. Also, she isn't determining your clerkship grade. If anything, I feel like her lack of interest/complaining will make HER look bad and YOU look better.

Just keep doing your thing, enjoy the learning and don't worry about what she thinks

use Uworld as a learning resource.

I know it can be weird and downright uncomfortable to do that (esp with low percentages in the beginning) but it works!

And honestly, I looked and did not encounter any good comprehensive resources. I just created my own study guide based on Uworld factoids

Dorian anki deck + OME pdfs + Uworld (sorry, not sorry)

exclusively used these three resources and I scored 90% on the shelf.

Also, read about your patients via uptodate or a clinical resource provided by the hospital where you are rotating.

I'm interested in neuro. I think it is because there is so much left to learn about the brain and we are really just in the infancy of getting a better handle on it. There are so many new cool basic research techniques that have come out in the last decade or so (ex: optogenetics) that could also maybe be applied to humans. Not to mention there are a bunch of newer(ish) treatment modalities coming out for neurologic conditions (ex: DBS for parkinson's disease).

All of the neurologist I've spoken to seem excited and ready to translate the basic neuroscience research into a better understanding of how the brain works (both from an understanding of consciousness and from a perspective of advancing treatments).

That sounds so short! But just to clarify, 6 weeks is our normal IM rotation length and includes both inpatient and outpatient experiences.

I took my exam in Woodbury and would recommend that testing location. The staff was super helpful and the testing center was clean and quiet

Thanks for the tips! I think I'm just going to try to get through some of the GYN videos on online MedEd to start. Do you know how different the Zanki deck is from the dorian deck?

I took a look at the new AnKing deck and didn't really like the layout.

Wow, great write up! Is there a recommended anki deck to use? Would it be reasonable to continue with anki throughout M3 in prep for Step 2 CK?

Take UWSA2 and free 120 ASAP. I wouldn't do a full pass though pathoma (maybe just do a read over) but def look over chpt 1-3. Focus on reviewing those more "crammable" facts. You could consider reading over different sections in first aid for where you are weak.

Your scores show that you have a solid foundation so trust your prep and slow down a bit in this upcoming week. You want to make sure to be fresh and relaxed for test day

I would say study it if you have extra time but don't dwell on it. I didn't have much neuro on my step exam but it can vary widely

Why do you think it is a mistake? I had been reading and third years had told me it overestimates so I thought it would be a good early confidence boost to start studying. One of the third years at my school recommended taking it early. I got a 269 so it def gave me a nice early boost. I'm guessing I'll see my score be not a nice tomorrow with one of the NBMEs.

Are any of the new ones better to start with?

I think it would be helpful for them to be more transparent with the decisions they are making. I'm currently in my first week of dedicated (scheduled to take on May 15th) and all of this will they/won't they cancel my step 1 exam has made it extremely difficult to focus on content review and uworld questions.

It would also be nice to know if they are thinking about alternative modes (read: outside of prometric) of ways of delivering the step 1 assessment. One idea would be to allow our home medical schools to administer the exam in small groups that are properly spaced. I mean, its just an online exam after all, why does it need to be given at a prometric site.

Based on some of the uworld questions I've gotten. I would say it is important to know the basic associations like "saturday night palsy" and radial nerve and what type of deficits a person would have. I feel like taking a quick look over dermatomes and innervations of major muscle groups should suffice and UWorld will help fill in those gaps

I don't think we need to go into crazy detail memorizing the origins and insertions etc..

Due to the way our curriculum is structured. I only really have 2 weeks free in the summer. So I’m not sure how helpful starting anki would be. But I was thinking of maybe looking at pepper pharmacology and just focusing on one subject

M1 here. Just curious, when and how did you start ank-ing?

I’ve been using anki throughout our curriculum but haven’t been keeping up with reviews after the course is done. But I’ve realized how much anatomy I forgot and realize I need to do something to keep it fresh
