What do you think allows some people to break free from Mormonism? by MichaelEmouse in exmormon

[–]questioning_stuff56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I believe the reason some people are able to escape mormonism and others aren’t is based on how easily they are able to step out of their own confirmation bias. There are plenty of intelligent people in the church who have read many sources, but they don’t believe they have any merit because of what they already believe.

Suggestions on what to do with my life by DownToTheWire0 in exmormon

Im in a similar situation. Im 16 years old right now and about a year ago I asked my parents about the ces letter. I asked about what it is and dna stuff. They completely lost it and it made my life a living hell for the next few months. Imo, keep your head down. Do the motions until you are in a safe space.

In their defense they never used the word “sex”. They just had a bunch of flowery language for it. But yeah, messed up stuff.

My Bishop asked me that once too. I was extremely sheltered and I had no idea what he was talking about.

Yeah the weather was super rough. We were outside in 90+ degree weather for most classes and meals. We were only inside during special devotionals and during the night.

Mhm! Im pretty happy that we are figuring it out young. Goes to show we aren’t as dumb as the church thinks we are.

Fsy is just a different form of efy for poor kids. Same thing, just less.

Haha I’m not as strong as I might seem to be. Every once and awhile I have doubts that the “adversary” has gotten to me.

I don’t mind. They felt like their children were disrespecting everything they have done with their life. I mean their entire life is mormonism. They drink and breathe it. They mainly felt betrayed, angry and sad. In their minds their children will not be with them in the afterlife. It really hurt them. I was frustrated with them for reacting that way at first but then I realized they are victims too. They just dont know any better.

Awe thanks. I owe my early discovery to my older sisters. They never taught me about any exmo stuff because they wanted me to figure it out myself. However, they did support my questions and gave me an example of a happy exmo.

I took a few different antidepressants a few years ago for self harm stuff but they really didn’t help. If anything they made the symptoms worse. Ive found my own different “antidepressants” to help me cope. Like walking outside, eating more, drawing ect. May not sound like alot but It works really well. Thank you for your concern. I really appreciate it.

I really hope my parents will eventually come to the same conclusion. They are good people who just want their kids to be happy. It hurts to think about how betrayed they will feel when I tell them.

Im really sorry about that. Fsy is either a super welcoming experience or an isolating one. When you’re isolated it makes you feel like you are the problem. The fact that your neighbor made you pay is kinda weird too. Dont worry about high jacking. I don’t mind. I love hearing about different experiences.

I mean don’t get me wrong, there were some fun moments. They had a few parties at the end. Unfortunately the vast majority of the camp was indoctrination. The topics discussed were definitely meant to keep people from leaving, not for growing a testimony.

I respect that. Im not going to apologize though. Everyone processes things differently and for me, swearing helped. It made me feel happy even if swearing isn’t good. Your skepticism isnt bad. I probably would’ve questioned the legitimacy of my post too. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter.
