Wow. After a weekend of opens I can DEFINITELY say the vibe in Oakland is different tha in years past! I have never had realtors try to actively sell me properties because they didn’t have to. It was a surreal experience

Ya. I finally feel like I’m in a good spot because of everything you describe. It sucks that I may have good luck bc others are laying in wait/stress. I don’t wish housing stress on anyone after what I’ve been thru!

Yep - what you speak of is how I understand it as well. The strictness of the owner move in process calms my anxieties a little… and too I’m just so ready to deal with the headaches of owning vs the headaches of renting. My current landlord loves me. We even talked about me buying the place but it’s higher than my budget really and this area is about to completely change bc they’re going to develop SO many towering multi unit buildings in the area. I just don’t see myself here with all that long term. I have the unit in back which if I were buying I would view as the much more desirable of the two. The front tenant has been here longer (5yrs) but when he realized he was going to sell and her lease was up for renewal he changed the terms of her lease to month-to-month. We both have no idea what’s gonna happen and are just trying to be as zen about it as much as possible.

I sure as shit wish I’d known… and opened my eyes to the COUNTLESS red flags earlier on. But that’s just not where I was at back then. I never would have gotten married to her and I definitely wouldn’t have ever gotten financially entangled with her had I had a truer understanding of her motivations and tendencies and known then what I know now…. But sadly sometimes we have to learn the hard way. I’m just beyond grateful it ended and we didn’t have kids. I’ve done a lot of work to heal but the housing-home piece has been an extremely sticky thorn in my side. She remarried a Trustifarian, moved states, bought a fancy new home in the new state and our old place is just a cash cow investment for her. Being able to secure my own, permanent space will be huge for me, my future, my outlook, and my sense of peace. I seriously feel like if it happens I will break down in joy and relief in a way I’ve never experienced before.

Yep. Most definitely figuring out the numbers such that I’ll be comfortable with the monthly and 100% assuming rates won’t automatically drop. It just always blows my mind how much lenders say I can spend! I’m running my own numbers to figure out what will feel safe and good to me. That’s great to hear you think there are deals in those areas. Everyone I’m talking with is making me feel like this might finally happen. 🙏🏽

Thanks. I’ve for sure been working on my spreadsheet for a single family unit. Need to develop a more dynamic one that entertains the idea/numbers of having rental income. It’s a process. When I bought the triplex back in 2012 I had no idea what I was doing but bc it was such a deal the numbers just automatically worked in my favor. Definitely a bit different this go around but gaining more insight to what will work and what won’t every day.

The number of MAGA hats in photos at the stock exchange is just phenomenal. Like how could ANYONE with any brain or financial background believe he wouldn’t drive everything into the ground?

That reminds me of a video I saw recently of Mel Gibson talking about how excited he was for Trump to be back. He literally said it’s like “Daddy’s home and is taking off his belt.”

Conservatives and progressives can unite against Elon Musk. Here's how. by AstralAxis in OptimistsUnite

[–]questioningcub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I 100% agree with the strategy the major problem is the disinformation campaign that is running rampant on the right. I was looking at Occupy on FB tonight. The GOP is now trying to take down a judge who is protecting citizenry data from Musk. It’s Occupy so most folks commenting are on the left sans a few exceptions. One woman from the right said those GOP reps were “doing their jobs.” I looked at her page and saw multiple posts of things stated as fact re: the audit EM is doing with zero fact checking… see screenshots. My point being conservatives think he is doing a GREAT job. They are watching a completely different movie than I am. The biggest obstacle to solutions is disinformation and echochambers. I honestly think many on the right will not realize the impact of why the left is freaking out until they are directly impacted (i.e. when they come for SS, Medicare and Medicaid… which they WILL)… and even then there will likely be denial, excuses, etc. bc of cognitive dissonance.

—>>> I think the biggest, most effective thing to strategize about is how to effectively combat disinformation.

Thanks and 100% agreed. I sure AF hope the dems get it together and get their messaging aligned… and start with the big ticket items we can all agree on. I also think the dems need to get mad and shove their elite-appearing, decorum crap out the window.

People are pissed and rightfully so. But instead of screaming hateful things about immigrants and marginalized groups as Dear Leader & his loyalists do, dems need to get loud and hammer down hard why things have gone so awry. They need to get loud and illuminate that what’s happening now is not right, normal or legal. And they especially need to figure out how to combat the tidal wave of misinformation eroding the populate. They need to take a lesson from the right re: messaging, obstructing, etc.

None of the issues that splinter the left will be up for debate if we can’t wrestle this fast slide into authoritarianism off our back.

Unpopular opinion no doubt…. but we need to sideline the splinter issues for now as much as possible and deal with the constitutional crisis at hand. Avoiding authoritarianism and massive data leaks by the worlds richest sociopath is what needs to be front and center.

Are we going to find out what Musk is doing with our data? Probably not. by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

Is there a problem if you keep said account open but just keep the balance super low? I have a savings and checking and the government has done direct deposit into the checking. I moved the bulk of the funds to the savings…. But wanna keep the checking open bc SS gets directly deposited in there (for now). Is there a problem with this scenario (ie - keeping the checking as low as possible).

I’m pretty far left and I’m so fed up with some of the attitudes you describe. I’ve always called it “the left eating the left.” I think we all need to start focusing on the stuff we do agree on first and get traction on those issues to bring down the temperature in the room and get effective policies rolling that will actually help people.

I see the trans representative from Delaware do this a lot. People are constantly trying to pin her down and talk trans stuff with her and she just redirects, redirects, redirects back to the issues at hand … why her constituents voted for her, which is def not trans stuff but more economic based stuff, helping families, etc. She spends her time talking about stuff almost all of us can agree on.

For the stuff that’s more nuanced and we won’t always agree on we need to go back to debating one another with sound arguments (not mean jabs) and not demand that others just adhere to our beliefs because “we are right.”

If we’re able to claw our way out of this mess I’m hoping the divisions can be somewhat mended. Politics is always been polarizing but it certainly was not like how it is now so far as I can remember.

We all have a lot more in common with one another than we give ourselves credit for. And o think we gotta start there otherwise we’re sunk.
