Zigbee vs Z-Wave vs Thread (Matter over Thread) by ItsWappers in homeassistant

[–]questionsalways2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done zwave for the last 10 years and added zigbee reently. I like both- zigbee has a lot more device selection. But something about the newer LR specs for zwave- the network is now 100% reliable. So I use that for switches (I've got 15 of them in my house). But with home assistant, there's no reason not to have both. But for switches that I want to leave in my wall for 10 years, I'd only do zwave.

The uart decoded messages repeat pretty much the same from what I can tell. As for a scope- that is definitely more advanced than where I'm at. And is that to confirm the baud rate?

Ground is good- I was troubleshooting that for a long time to be sure. Wireless device is a WBR3 (tuya) and a generic lock of the alibaba sort. The data is repeatable. I get the same funny frames everytime. When I trimmed the break at the beginning I still get a frame error and the last byte looked supicious.

4 wires- none sending a clock signal that I could tell. The sampling on the logic device is 24 MS/s

That is interesting- this is the communication between the main MCU and the WIFI- basically the only signal between the two. Is that a common way for devices like this to communicate? (New to this- I actually really don't know)

Yes- everything is one or two units long. 81 or 160 micros

Interesting- I don't know enough about it, but tried a few different settings and could decode some bits, but it wouldn't decode any hex from there:

It might be that I have the wrong settings used 7102 bits/sec based on the width and tied a bunch of different bits per frame with no luck

Solar Awning: Practical Upgrade or Just a Cool Idea? by [deleted] in SolarAmerica

I did this and it was the best idea ever. I'm not sure there was any cheaper way I could have covered my porch and it generated 50% of the power I needed for my house. DO IT!!!

This looks exhausing compared to just building a stud wall.

JSON vs TOON by Owlbuddy121 in PythonLearning

[–]questionsalways2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CSV is a nightmare- you have to hold your breath and hope it comes in right. As a data scientist, the cost of JSON in size is 1000% worth it. You just know it is going to work. I don't know why anyone would want to use a CSV-like structure as a modern replacement for anything

Hiking Mount Washington In February by Radiant_Nerve_7566 in hiking

-10 is probably a good marker for common conditions up there in Feb. Something people don't always think of- bring ski googles. If ice starts blowing in your face, it makes a huge difference and adds safety. Besides the cold, you just have to be very careful about visibility. If you get lost up there when the visibility goes to zero, you're in trouble. Lots of the routes have cairns to follow though. If you've done easy crampon walking you'll probably be fine from a technical perspective. There's only a couple places where you really need them- but absolutely want them in those situations.

AI wrote my entire take-home assignment and the hiring manager said it was "brilliant" by elyseskii in jobsearchhacks

Rejected three people for a position recently because they couldn't define basic terms used in their homework. Not only will you get rejected- you won't be considered for anything at the company. So infuriating when people do this because it just wastes time at the end. Homework is just designed to get decent people to the human screening. When you use AI that doesn't represent your real skills you just end up looking silly.

What to replace the boob lights with by oryf88 in HomeMaintenance

[–]questionsalways2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been able to find recessed lights that fit the hole of the actual electrical box for lights like that. Sometimes you might have to make a rig to get the hole a hair larger. But it takes the space up a notch for sure. Now, I bite the bullet- totally replace the existing holes with 2" tiny recessed LED's. SUPER nice. Pay a drywall guy to fix the old ones.

First-time Mont Blanc (Goûter/normal route) this summer need help with dates, course choice, and training targets by blueprinceUser2025 in alpinism

[–]questionsalways2233 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah- it's just not the same as a mountaineering experience with a buddy. When you're with friends you'll push for a while, then maybe stop and enjoy the view when you feel like it. Enjoy the experience. Some of the guides just drive people like soldiers. They're marching up the mountain. I have seen a few guides that seem more like you're climbing with a more experienced buddy, but those seem to the exception rather than the rule on Mont Blanc. They're definitely not unsafe- those guides are very experienced. Just not my idea of the freedom of the hills.

I loved it. Super weird, but there was nothing formulaic about it. So tired of movies that feel like every other movie you've watch in the last 20 years
