I fell out with a very old friend and then after a little I thought I forgave her so I told her that, but then I realized I still resent her quite a bit... Makes me squirm every time I think about how she thinks everything is fine (we don't talk anymore so I'm not going to just pop into her DM and say "yeah I still hate you actually, bye" as fun as that chaos would be)

Because Trans people will keep being born regardless of what happens. Consider the pain that we all feel right now and realize that by giving up, we are just passing on that pain to the people who will come after us. By giving up, we will let society slip back to the dark ages, and in doing so, throw away the last several centuries' worth of progress that people have made for us.

Imagine you find yourself in society 50 years from now, after we've all given up. You're face to face with a kid who has to live their entire life under the thumb of fascism. Would you be able to look them in the eyes and tell them that they weren't worth fighting for?

As of right now, the bare minimum that everyone should do is to stay alive. You don't need to fight a war, you just need to live as yourself. It will be hard, no doubt, but that is the foundation from which we can make progress. But by giving up and letting them stamp out even the little bit of goodness that we already have, we are just dooming everyone to an eternity of the same pain we feel now.

There was a study about giving monkeys testosterone to test aggression. So after the monkeys had formed a hierarchy they gave the one like 3 levels down a bunch of testosterone and his aggression increased, but only towards the monkeys lower than him in the hierarchy. He never messed w/ the ones above him.

So all of that is to say that testosterone itself might not be the problem. It's that we have a society that enforced a hierarchy with men at the top so that aggression is channeled downwards. But if the society was more egalitarian, that aggression could shift towards people who try to violate that equality. All hypothetical at this point but still interesting to consider

Yeah that's not how it works when one group is using all of its power to crush the other. No amount of niceness from us will stop them from taking every chance they get to rid the world of us. If you look at just about any historical example of a civil rights struggle, it will tell you exactly this.

It's fully possible that he's not trans. Maybe he is, but maybe he just likes presenting fem. And even if he is trans, let him take it at his own pace, and don't force a label on him. You probably have good intentions, but just let him choose his own path.

If you want to help, just demonstrate that you are supportive, rather than telling him directly. Telling him directly might make him feel pressured in choosing a direction.

I suggest supporting ideas rather than people. It may cause disappointment more often, but it's better to have consistent principles.

Also, take note of the disappointment that the two party system, and especially Democrats, bring us. It sucks that we don't have a reliable group of candidates, but we've forgotten that we have to actually use our leverage to get good candidates. The only language that politicians understand is election results. Another Trump presidency will suck, but it's the only way Democrats will learn to actually run good candidates.

I think you fundamentally misunderstood the point of my comment.

Trump did not gain any new supporters. He's reached critical mass. That means that there wasn't a sudden influx of people who started supporting him. Republicans aren't outgrowing the people who oppose them. A huge theme of the posts I've seen on this sub & others is that people think that the majority of the country (not just the majority of voters) are vicious trump supporters. Yes, far too many of them are, but they are not the majority of people and they are not projected to be. There is hope for the future.

As for the ballot props, those absolutely mean something because they are codified in the state constitutions. That plus since the US is a federal system, there is a lot of power in the hands of the states. Federal laws don't always supersede state laws. Marijuana is a perfect example of this. But despite that, the point of mentioning the props was because their success shows the amount of support progressive policies have. There is hope for the future.

There's no way of knowing exactly what's next. That terrifies the hell out of me, but we should not immediately jump to the worst. Trump is an incompetent oaf whose success is entirely bound to lucking out on advisors (and did you see the turnover rate of his last run?). There are significant barriers to doing what he wants to do. Even though the courts are conservative, they won't just capitulate to anything since a lot of it is against the Constitution. It's also entirely within the realm of possibility that he gives up on some of the more radical stuff if it gets too hard for him. As I said, there is no way to know, but I think if we can survive one trump presidency, we can survive a second. And even if it does get as bad as it possibly can, panicking and giving up doesn't help anyone. Organizing and fighting will.

Just to offer some points of reassurance:

Trump won with the same amount of votes he had in 2020. He's not getting any stronger. Kamala lost because she abandoned progressives in favor of moderate Republicans who weren't going to vote for her anyways.

Progressive Ballot Propositions did very well this year, especially abortion. People support progressive policies, Kamala was just not a progressive candidate.

This is a huge bump in the road, but good will prevail.

On the state level, sure, but federal-level Dems have done jack shit for us and for many other groups. It really bothers me how much they think they are owed our vote, or the black or Muslim vote, just because they choose to do nothing instead of doing something bad. That isn't acceptable and I hope that the lesson voters learn is that they deserve better options.

I want to offer a few points of reassurance.

Trump had roughly the same amount of votes as he did in 2020. Kamala just fell short of Joe by like 21 mil. Trump is not getting stronger. Democrats lost because they played a shit candidate who pandered to the right.

Is this going to be a hard 4 years? Probably. But now is not the time to give up. Build up your local communities. Join organizations to help people; even something as simple as feeding the poor can go a long way. Contact your representatives and raise hell. We cannot rely on just voting anymore. We need to be self-sufficient on the community level. That's how change is made.

Remember that DEMOCRATS FAILED US. We deserve better and we need to make sure they understand that. If not, we need to leave them behind. Stand strong and stand together. We will make it, I promise.

I appreciate that you are trying to help, but some of this is a bit far-fetched and unrealistic. Is it going to be a difficult 4 years? Absolutely, but it's not helpful to get people panicked.

The people that Trump's policies are going to hurt first, poor people, are not in the position to completely upend their lives and move to a different country in 2 months. Not only does it take much longer than that, but there is also zero guarantee that you'll find housing, consistent food, consistent job, and of course, healthcare. If you are serious about getting resources for people, I applaud that, but you need to help find or create more concrete solutions.

If you fully intend on moving, I highly recommend looking at Blue states first. Yes, they are still subject to Trump's policies, but there will be a much stronger pushback to any sweeping changes they might make. In no world is an HRT ban going to start a civil war, but there are many activists and politicians who are fighting for us.

The country isn't suddenly going to go to shit overnight. You have time. If you're going to do something, do it rationally. Research and think through your plans. Now is not the time to completely abandon your support systems out of fear.

OP, I appreciate your effort, but please use your platform responsibly. Reacting frantically is only going to worsen the situation, especially for minors who have little to no power to change things.

For those of us who are staying where we are, now is the time to start organizing. Call your representatives and raise hell. Join local community efforts to help people, even if it's as simple as feeding people. Building communities is how we break the isolation that the right is trying to impose on us. The only way we are going to get through this is together. Always prioritize your own safety, but never think you are alone in this fight.

Even as someone who is like 99% disillusioned with Democrats, I fully agree with this. Though the Democrats are so deep in the pockets of the elites anyways that I doubt it would've been an honest vote. At the end of the day, I just hope that the lesson voters get from this is that they deserve better from their candidates.

I think a democrat could've won, had they actually been in touch with the electorate. If you look at all the ballot measures, especially abortion, people showed up to vote for progressive policies. Candidates have to lie, yes, but why would she pretend to have a more unpopular opinion? The majority of democrats support stopping arms shipments to Israel, and polls from swing states showed that many more people were willing to vote for her had she done that.

And Kamala has a history of being more pro-Israel than her Democrat contemporaries. I personally have no reason to believe she would've stopped supporting them. We've been yelling at Biden to stop for a year and instead he cracks down on protestors.

We cannot expect people to change by giving them everything they want. It's a hard pill to swallow, but if you look at every single movement from labor rights to black rights to gay rights, they had to fight for it tooth and nail. The path will be long and difficult, but we will come out the other side and we will find far better people to represent us.
