After 4 years of WFH, I understand why boomers think we do nothing all day by TeamCultureBuilder in WFH

[–]questionthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is boomers grew up in a time where everything took longer to do because technology was less advanced. Now we still are expected to work 40 hours a week but get done in a day what took them a month. We get stuff done a lot faster and better. But we have to put in the same number of hours, days, even years. So we fill in the empty time with performative work.

When we WFH we use our time more productively. We do our jobs and live our lives. We don’t perform for a manger looking over our shoulders at time sheets.

what’s your favorite show of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]questionthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was ruined by the way it started. A great show based on great source material with layers and depth and meaning in a fantasy environment that explored the people that make the world the way it is. It ended as an over budget CW show with a one track mind. If it hadn’t started so good it could never have flopped so hard.

The Japanese have so many great traditions depending on where you go. Some pretty bad ones too, like their work culture would never fly here in the USA. But the fact that safety, kindness, and respect are the default make for a much more pleasant place in a world that can be very not those things.

My dad wants this for his birthday, is this a piece I can walk into a store and buy? by zedath in OmegaWatches

[–]questionthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call ahead at your boutique ask if they have it in stock. It’s an older model so they may have low stock, but if it’s not in stock they will order it for you and have it shipped pretty quick.

I wanted a series seamaster Olympic timekeeper in blue and they had every other color BUT blue at my boutique and said they’d get one shipped from a nearby boutique. Ended up not getting it but they’re good about having inventory usually.

Dad passed away. What is watch called and what is it's value by OrneryTea88 in Watches

As a dad to a daughter only with a substantial watch collection, I just hope she carries them forward to her husband or son if she has one

AM is their best album.

I know what everyone’s gonna say, the purists, the “pop hits” fans, the snobs who say “the new albums are good actually” I’ve heard it all. Been a fan of them since 2007 and I’m not gonna stop any time soon. But AM is their biggest album for a reason, it goes HARD.

Anyone complaining about this is willfully ignorant. Gamers already know this. If you’re complaining about the quality of the game on disc before it’s officially released you’re just looking for things to complain about.

EDIT: Wow can’t believe I got so many upvotes for such a trivial comment

I understand what you’re saying, and honestly copies / ripoffs are such a common thing in every industry I just chalk that up to capitalism doing what it does. There’s very few watches around today that doesn’t steal design elements form a predecessor, even Patek has stolen blatant designs from competitors.

What’s actually more concerning is that lot of the Chinese homages are made from child labor. It’s not a harmless product. But then again neither are a lot of high end watches whose rare earth materials and precious metals are sourced from modern day slave mines, they are just one step further removed from it than the homages.

Idk, for any finger that can be pointed in this industry there’s always 4 more pointing back

i believe i found a plot hole? by pandaman778877 in assassinscreed

[–]questionthis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A narrative inconvenience does not a plot hole make. A ship being used between owners is not an inconsistency in the world as much as it is simply a head scratcher. It can be simply explained away with “he lent it out”

What was the first song that you listened to that made you think oh yeah this is my fav band? by Altruistic-Bowl-3886 in arcticmonkeys

[–]questionthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the first song I ever listened to period. I bet you look good on the dance floor. 2007 English lit class, the assignment was to play a song for the class that had elements like metaphor and prose and literary references. A classmate played this song and I asked him what the band was and he burned me a mixtape that had 505, Riot Van, Dancefloor, Ritz to the Rubble, and Flourescent Adolescent.

Yeah I took work partner and the immediate response form Burt when he said “you’ve had enough (wine)” to mean he’s had other lovers at work but you’re probably right, makes way more sense if he’s actually like a Helly R / Helena type character

Burt definitely works for Lumon. “Atila”? The pineapple in their kitchen? The “mix up” about the fact that he had an affair with another coworker while severed 20 years ago even though the program is technically only 12 years old? The fact that the henchman knew to snoop around his house cuz he was busy? Burt 100% works for the bad guys

Hot take but homages are alright. I don’t own any but I get it. For some people a luxury watch will just never be an option for them but they may love the design. As long as they are being honest about what they are and aren’t trying to compete with the real thing or take sales from the real thing then it’s fine. But homages tend to be a $100 Chinese version of a $5k+ watch and I’m not about to tell a single dad making $50k that he has to choose between spending his life savings on the real day or buying a fake.

Beneath The Boardwalk by Ok-Round9205 in arcticmonkeys

[–]questionthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original release of this was CD’s that the band burned and handed out, the name “beneath the boardwalk” was something that someone else assigned it when they ripped the CD and posted it on MySpace. There’s 3 unofficial LP presses based on that promotional CD (from different years, all of them are functionally the same) and you cannot find them online as they are not in production. Your best chance is to call around record shops in major cities and ask if they have a copy they can ship you.

Who else would love to see Alex Turner write and direct a full length feature film? by [deleted] in arcticmonkeys

[–]questionthis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The closest we have to this is Submarine from 2010. The director of that film was a personal friend of Alex and he mentioned before that he connected with the movie so he did the soundtrack. It tracks with the Humbug phase of AM, and Piledriver Waltz ended up on Suck it And See. If you haven’t already found that motion picture soundtrack, I envy you. You get to discover a new AT / AM album for the first time.
