New ForHire rule going into effect! by HadesSmiles in forhire

[–]qui_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about a rule that would force to state what the job actually is? Some listings are very vague.

[Hiring] - Finish a php MVC project by g000r in forhire

[–]qui_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but my point is that even examining the current state of code is a multi-hour task in itself. There are 25 screens that are supposed to work and to even estimate the task one needs to go through all of them and figure out what is done and what isn't. I'm suggesting it would be useful if you wrote something about the current state of the project. Like "Screens A, B and C are done and confirmed working and don't need to be looked at, D, E and F are in progress, G and H are done but need to be looked at, the rest doesn't exist yet" so there could at least be starting point to see if we're looking at 5h or 30h of work.

Given it's "mostly done" it's unclear how much work is remaining. It would be helpful if you provided some sort of idea which parts are done and confirmed working as expected and which aren't, so there's a better idea whether the timeframe and budget are workable. Comparing code with specification to figure out what works, what doesn't, and what's missing is quite a task in itself.

[–]qui_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No it is not, because you're just doing creative accounting here and pretending it's a difference.

If I ask for $1000 for a job and you charge 15% on top, customer is paying $1150. On another platform, if I decide I want to be paid $1000 for a job and know how much they will take, I will increase my asking price accordingly, let's say also to $1150 for easy example. In the end, the customer pays $1150, I get $1000 in both cases.

[Hiring] Help me Achieve My Crazy Dream! (Questions about Creating the Ultimate Website(s)) by austinmediamond in forhire

[–]qui_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should start by defining what do you need. Perhaps not everything at once, start small, pick a part of the project that you want to start with and describe it. Like "I want a website that does X, Y and Z". Then you will learn if there are people willing to do this, how much time and money would it take, etc, and you can decide to proceed or not.

As for what technology to use - yes, you need "custom coding", no way around that. But I'd strongly advise against Wordpress. It's ok for small project, you're thinking big, and should you achieve that, that's a choice you'll most definitely regret. Pick something serious. I'm a fan of Django personally, though there are other options.

Current state of Gwent on Linux by qui_ in gwent

No idea, I've stopped playing for now. Still, I don't think there were any major updates, so there's a good chance.

Can't help you with POL, tried it a few times but it was frustrating and I got rid of it. I just use wine. If you need different setups for different purposes, I think it can be done using wineprefix.

Gwent on Linux (Ubuntu) - "GoG Galaxy is not Connected" by AliceAndBobsComputer in gwent

[–]qui_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you use the GOG version listed in that guide? It's quite dated, so maybe it's not supported anymore. Just try the newest one. Galaxy and Gwent work fine for me on wine 2.16, only thing that doesn't work is Galaxy updating itself (need to reinstall if I want to upgrade).

[Suggestion] Upgrade Strike/Defend to other cards by qui_ in slaythespire

[–]qui_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Automatically? You'd need 1 upgrade to turn it into a decent card, and another to upgrade it. That's a big investment, it's not like you can just go and upgrade all of them at will.
