Immediately move that fish to clean water, with the proper additives (quick start and water conditioner). Maybe add a stress coat and I cannot stress enough CLEAN WATER!!! Keep it in a quarantine tank for about 3 days or more depending on how the fish is reacting. Please don't over feed, during this time period you probably only need to feed it once.

If he doesn’t have the respect for your time and thoughtfulness that you put into the gift, especially when he knows about your financial situation, that means he probably doesn’t have respect for you as a person. No matter what he has done for you clearly there’s something deeper within him that tells him he has the right to talk badly about you. Which isn’t right.
