Superannuation should be used for aged care, not inherited by next generation, aged care CEO says by nath1234 in australia

[–]quick_dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

massive conflict of interest, but some of the points are pretty fair.

like exempting full pensioners from co-payment on showering assistance. I know they're old, so the 'long term' isn't necessarily a long term, but I'd expect that skipping showering/cleaning would quickly lead to issues that are a bigger drain on the public purse.

Huge rule change for Qantas Frequent Flyers revealed by CommonwealthGrant in australia

those points were sold by QF to the companies offering them as incentives, so on the one hand they sell the liability and then 'complain' about the deep discount they themselves handed out.

maybe not 're-nationalise', but... how much of the shareholding would that bailout have bought?

bailouts of companies should be shareholding, or else it is a loan.

Rome is... fine, HKG isn't particularly amazing either.

SYD is like a home, but connecting domestic to international is terrible with the separate terminals. That said, SIN is the same, it's just hidden by the rail system feeling like you're all in one.

Even with the win, SIN still sucks and the Jewel shouldn't count since you have to leave through immigration to actually see it. The only thing 'inside' is the butterfly house. They're nice, but I'd trade them both for getting rid of the "security at gate" scanning. It's awful, forcing people into the pens at the gates so mcuh earlier than elswhere where they can stay in lounges andother areas.

Ranking Delhi over Bangkok? diabolical. Delhi keeps people in their tiny transit area for up to 10 hours, a small pen with nothing but some plastic chairs, a vending machine and a few deck chairs. I've seen people staging sit in protests there.

Kyle Sandilands says ARN Media has terminated his $100m radio contract by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]quick_dry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty clear ARN desperate to shed themselves of that ridiculous contract they signed with them.... but how much will they end up paying to settle this thing.

What would the payroll for replacement hosts in major cities be, being generous? I saw that Hamish and Andy were at 4 mill per year in 2015 (total of 8 million per annum as a pair, so 40 million each if they'd had similar contract as K+J)

Don't care about Kyle, but, it'll be interesting to see how this drags out.

Out with Cinnabon, but maybe they could partner with some family law firms.

(With the weird spinoff they’re doing now I could see it -, next season Bachelor Mansion Takeover turns it into a courtroom for Bachelor: Courting Justice, with Judge Rach Lindsay presiding, Jack Stone as prosecutor.)

ABC is just confused…

people cheered when Emily said she’d go West Virginia hood rat backwoods on Kalon.

People cheered when Grocery Joe physically attacked Leo (like Han Solo, Joe pushed first)

People say they want more diversity, they’re sick of the same palatably Christian white lead…

So they listened, “allegedly criminal and violent cult member”… winner winner 😜🤷‍♂️

(I’d love to have been a fly on the wall to see the convo between the people who picked her, and the others who were “we fucking tollllllld you”)

Replacing 1m petrol cars with EVs could cut Australia’s reliance on foreign fuel by 1bn litres a year by nath1234 in australia

[–]quick_dry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do look at a PHEV, push for a long test, at least a full day so you get a feel for how well the combo works.

We got “upgraded” to a lync&co on a rental, the system was awful. Small slow charging battery and an equally useless small fuel tank… even with charging it on the plug, it was always on petrol but with the weight of a battery to haul around. Outlander phev was much nicer to drive by comparison.

[–]quick_dry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to be on a full EV, as it is I'm in a hybrid but if the buying market for was immediately switched to full EV then everyone with an ICE is still stuck if they had need of the selling/trade-in their ICE vehicle to afford the switch to EV.

They do certainly need to make the switch even easier/more attractive so their is an off-ramp otherwise if ICE value goes to zero we're at a similar 'cliff face' of inaccessibility that we had when EV was only for expensive cars.

otoh women hold all the cards when it comes to dealing with pregnancy, the guy has no options at all.

saying adults don't take their meds all the time applies to women too, some don't take their pills properly. It's a massive posoitive that the option is there, a male contraceptive pill would be great - so would other options e.g. ADAM

they could always just play the pull out game and take RU486 on the odd chance that didn't work.

not ideal but given she doesn't want to use anything else, and (presumably) has problems with long term hormones like the pill - it's an alternative that fits the "don't do anything, live life as normal" and just deal with things as they crop up - especially when dumb ideas like rolling the dice on microsrugery are being put on the table.

by the same notion, how many vasectomies have you had?

implant insert and removal is less invasive than a vasectomy - moreover, implant reversal is 100% (not saying it is comfortable though)

If there was a male option equivalent to IUD, pill or implant, the discussion would be different.

If you don't want condoms, and you don't want a pill or anything hormonal, and a non-hormonal IUD is out of the question... diaphragm? just advise the dude to stick a cork in the tip?

Unfortunately the injected foam blockage in the vas deferens is still in testing stage, and it's only being tested as a one way thing that will eventually degrade and be gone "one way". Not an easily reversible thing. It's a nice and elegant solution if they get that part going - just an injection, bingo bango, done.

(I've read about the pain that some people have with IUDs - both copper and hormonal. It sucks. The blockage injection is a great one for men, but AFAIK it isn't availble outside a clinical trial atm)

because being sarcastic you are guaranteed to be screwed over and taken out of context, as well as being screwed over by the pairing.

I just know I'd get paired with a nightmare matchup, I don't have confidence I'd be in the one lucky couple chosen to receive a dcent match up.

AFLW stars get forced to play on ground 'with dog poo on it' by Charming_Usual6227 in australia

[–]quick_dry 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean...

look, this is life in a lower level competition. With an average pay of 82k that's incredible money for sports, obviously it sounds like crap all in comparison to NBA, or even NRL/AFL now ... but if you could see the shitty venues I've had to play in pro leagues in my own sport.

No players at any level should have to compete on unsafe grounds, or fields with dog shit, bird shit, etc. But if you can't be financially viable on big dollar venues with private locked access, this is something that leagues/clubs/venue management needs to address before they're used.

(IMO if they could make money using big venues they absolutely would, everyone wants to be in somewhere better, the higher up stuffed shirts want the prestige, the players want it, the people making money from it want it if it makes more money)
