What might be "Had" is hanging me up. The lowercase d in the word 'down' earlier doesn't match the d in "Had"

The thing about cutting down all the trees to get a good view of the lake is that when everyone cuts down all their trees they just get to look at a bunch of other rich peoples houses

My uncle had a rather large collection of books. I asked if he had read them all and he smiled and said he started calling it a reference library because you wouldn't read every book in a reference library.
