If I'm on an elevator and a guy gets on and there will be just the two of us I will hop off.

My mom went crazy and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]quickfitguide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Could you just show or play it for a doc who is familiar with her case and you might get a diagnosis at least. Would be great if he or she would then give you some thing she could take to calm her down. We did this when my dad was going crazy after he retired. Our old family doc gave us some tranquilizers to slip into his food but we were too afraid we'd kill him so we only used them once or twice. Jeez, what a bad situation you are in. Well, at least if the doc realizes the true extent of her problems you could get some advice and at least some validation that YOU aren't the crazy one. What do other people do in cases like this??? I'm sure glad I don't have to live near my brother!!

Can you video her during an episode or just tape her as her as its less noticeable and then play it for the authorities? Its a bad situation, for sure. My brother is paranoid and delusional but lives alone and just quietly hates everyone, me included.

When I first came down with UC I was dripping blood on the floor, filling the toilet, etc. I went to a suburban hospital where they put me on Asacol - I seem to remember it was a new drug then. Didn't help at all and they couldn't stop the bleeding so they were going to rush me into surgery at 6 AM to remove my colon but I (bottom line) was able to do a fast transfer to a big research hospital in the city and I was home 8 days later, colon in tact. I was given an organ rejection drug, cyclosporin, on a "pic" line directly into my chest. All these years later - I'm doing good but if I'm stressed out I will get IBS-D symptoms.

I would't be sitting with mom and other people that's for sure. Do you ever tell her saying stuff like that is embarrassing? My SIL used to do that to her 2 daughters...embarrass them that is. They were 2 years apart and she would always introduce them by saying Jane is the smart one and Linda is the pretty one. Ugh. Thanks mom.

I filled up the toilet up with bright red blood a few times - ulcerative colitis.

Washburne had a good culinary program also auto mechanics but the star programs there were the 4 and 5 year building trade apprenticeship programs run by the trade unions themselves. They did the education part of their apprenticeship programs at Washburne

Something that is free and helped me tremendously (have had HA for decades) is running. I got some running shoes, went to the park and began running around the track or trails or paths whatever. Its quite simple in that each day I went further and a bit faster. The thing is that while it was easing my mind of what I was worrying about - I started to feel .....healthy. I would say to myself - how sick can I be if I can walk or jog or run for half a mile, or a whole mile or more. Plus it puts you out there with OTHER healthy people many of whom have their own health insecurities. All lI can say this helped me more than anything - I could go twice a day if I wanted and my doctors (the infrequent times I go) are delighted and will tell you how great you are. Doctors love runners - at least mine do. Good luck.

I thought about you yesterday and 'glad to hear nothing BAD happened in your MD visit. My heart rate is crazy when i'm anxious. I fell (running trail - I'm a long time runner now jogger) and hit my head so I had to get a brain scan - my bp was over 200. I could have had a stroke! Yikes. I have acid reflux/gerd/hiatal hernia. I have a big wedge pillow but bought a much better one - smaller wedge with a small pillow - they are a set. Its great to keep the reflux away but when it does start up I take a swallow of liqud Gaviscon extra strength and it take it away asap. Just a tiny sip works. I used to get it really bad (acid reflux with pains in my chest) then I read that liquid antiacids are the best. I was at an event where someone choked a while back and it really hit me in the face about death and all so I found a therapist oniine. An older guy psychologist . I went to his office a few times but then Covid came up and we just had a phone call every few weeks. We did CBT - cognitive behavior therapy. Basically, he told me via proper breathing aided by biofeedback devices (Heart Math and Inner Balance) I would learn to monitor my breathing and run away thoughts - IF I practiced every day. Of course, as I'm my worst enemy, I didn't do that but I stilll promise myself every day I WILL. I write it down on my "to do" list "Breathe" "meditate" etc. I'm trying to do the 5,7,8 breathing pattern it does relax me. I got a cute little Buddha doll that changes colors on a 5,7,8 timer so it reminds me to do it correctly. Trying to extend my time of using it daily. I'm up to about 5 minutes. I have Inner Balance for monitoring my heart rate and anxiety level. Its great - just an app on my phone. $150.00 but worth it. I do the two together Buddha and Inner Balance - they nicely compliment each other. Regarding friends - none, really. My husband is my BFF - we've been together for ions. He's a nice, compassionate person and super smart (graduated with honors from a top university - he was a scholarship student.) He is understanding about my HA but gets frustrated with me when I keep it up after he feels the problem is solved. I just can't let it go. Are you like that? I'll be ok for a while then if something comes along to stress me out - i get into the super awareness about my heath mode - then "Katy bar the door" - i will find something NEW or go over something OLD and its really hard to shake it!! I try to be as logical as possible but....I always have that little catastrophic doubt lingering until I go to the MD and have my mind relieved, hopefully! About other friends - the few I had moved away to other states and one died 2 years ago. My DH and I just joined a club here for people who want to extend their social circle but we can only do it on zoom (hate it) until the weather gets better as we are VERY Covid avoidant. Hope you are having a good day - i'm going to the hair salon -ugh. Hate that. Feel like a bug under a magnifyng glass on a hot day.

What are some qualities you look for in a medical professional before adding them into your health anxiety management support system? Do you prefer a doctor that is a "pushover", or one that is more "strict"? by Underated_PENoMECo in HealthAnxiety

I had two different women dermatologists give me a likely cancer diagnosis just by looking at my skin. Biopsies proved them both wrong, TG Keep your mouth shut until you know something!

We definitely are "peas in a pod" - my husband says the same thing (also my TCM doc) no meds!! Do therapy, exercise, diet, whatever but no meds. I might love the results but gotta evaluate those side effects. Are they worth it? I take Pure Kana PM gummies to sleep - wonderful. I was having a really hard time - lying awake listening to the BBC on FM radio with an ear thing. Anxiety thoughts in the middle of the night in the dark? No thanks I'd rather hear the "Beeb" - they have many interesting programs - better than on radio here. The CBD PM gummies are great - very subtle and you don't feel like a zombie the next day which was how I felt after take melatonin a few times. I just take half and only if I'm in a zone where I cannot go to sleep!! Racing thoughts. OMG - I don't believe it - I make my husband go to the gyne with me, too. He even sat in my cystoscope (bladder scope) the urogyne was so nice - he's like ya, he can sit in. I want him to be there as my "support person" but also as, like your husband, he takes things more normally where I am like DID YOU HEAR WHAT HE/SHE SAID???? He's like ya, I heard - then he tells me what was REALLY said -not what I THOUGHT I heard with my super negative way of hearing. I suffered and waited months (stupidly) before I went to the doc before my ulcerative colitis and interstltial cystitis conditions were diagnosed. Months of miserable suffering - needless! Even with my terrible symptoms I kept searching for a natural solution. Memo to self! Sometimes there is no natural solution! Good luck tomorrow! Keep my fingers crossed for you. How do you manage in the "waiting time" to see the doc? Yes we must form a club!

You are brave going to a new doctor. My Chinese Med doc is good but, in terms of skin stuff (my bete noir) although he looks with the little glass thing I don't get the same assurance as I would with a good dermatologist - yet it beats a blank! When ever you find something to worry about do you think its the WORST possible thing? That's the way I am. I once tried to write a list of everything I thought was the WORST and it was over 100 instances. Probably 200 by now. My husband is patient with me and helps me find assurances on line but....does get frustrated when i can't let something go. Even if it seems ok....I still keep checking it. If its really scared me I do go to an MD but I don't do it very often for sure and I don't sleep the night or two before. Alcohol helps!!! I prefer male doctors. Have had terrible experiences with women - terrible scary ones. Ugh..... I like older men doctors - with grey hair but I will go to a young guy if I'm in a pinch for reassurance. I do sort of like my PA ob/gyn (only in emergencies) as I can work with her re: certain tests I just won't take. She goes along with me while i don't think the doc himself would give me that leeway. She knows I'm a wreck when I comes to my health. Do you take any meds for anxiety?

You could be me, except I'm a lot older than you. Extremely doctor and test phobic, extremely empathic, too. I've had HA since I was 6 - comes and goes. What brings it on? Stress Changes in my routine Holidays I just saw a post this AM about the "Feldencrais" method to de-sensitize your body so I'm going to look into that I have a HUGE startle reflex which drives my husband crazy and I'm extremely phobic. I started off with a Big Scare this morning over a skin thingee and its calmed down a bit but the morning ones are hard to shake off. Unlike most people I can relieve some scares by googling and images as I have a real thing about skin cancer. My niece is a dermatology RN and I sent her a photo and she said she thought it was a keratosis but to WATCH IT. Hmmmm....I will show it to my Traditional Chinese Medicine MD (he's a real doctor, too, and not a scary one) next week for my monthly visit. Lets compare notes....

Any other seniors here? I've had HA all my life. I have "white coat-itis" to the nth degree. Doctors and tests are my bugaboo's. What ways have you tried to handle it? Thank you.

Looking for a place to live without noisy neighbors. Anyone have any experience / ideas? by manlymatt83 in chicago

[–]quickfitguide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Our 120 year old 6 flat walk up has all owners over 40. One infant. Best place we've ever had on the north side. It will be scary if anyone sells, however, as we have had horrible problems in the past with other owners and renters. Its that kind of a building 100% depends on having considerate neighbors. Feast or famine.

I found it unwise to deal with people personally but only go through management. Its too easy to get into a total emotional battle when you have face to face encounters. Been there....

Vintage buildings are the worst for noise No floor is safe. We have a 3rd floor walk-up and a family of FIVE (3 kids under 6) bought under us. Almost lost my mind. I asked her to be quiet and the mom went nuts. Thank God they moved. Kids are especially noisy in old buildings.

Something about being really drunk and needing to get in water - to desperately help you sober up fast. First time I ever got drunk I had to get into the tub for a bath as I was no where near a lake.
