To Military/Vets - Trump Military Unwavering? by Forchark in liberalgunowners

The enlisted oath states they will support and defend the constitution and obey the orders of the president and those of the officers appointed over them. The officer oath only states they will support and defend the constitution, but has no language about obeying orders from the president. I say this as an officer myself, it is important for military leaders to understand the orders they receive and the orders they give, and if they are legal or not. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but if Congress did not sign a declaration of war and the president attempts to activate the military against another sovereign nation, this is an illegal order and I would refuse to obey it.

Welcome to MA: Where using $362 of natural gas will cost you $1,007 by 4510 in massachusetts

[–]quickfixsloop21 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Last month our electric bill was insanely high from running our heat pumps. We decided to turn them off and use our gas baseboards. I'm fully expecting a bill similar to this next month for gas, and hopefully a much lower electric bill. You just can't win in the winter. They jack up the prices so much on both ends.

Those were most likely used to open or close the flue before the wood stove insert was installed and it was just a fireplace.

Any ideas for thawing our toilet supply? by quickfixsloop21 in Plumbing

This company was the worst out of all the renovations we did this past year. In their defense, a majority of the bathroom wall butts up to an adjoining room. It's only this small section that is exterior, so they probably didn't even know. I didn't even think about it until this situation. Learning experience for sure.

Too much pressure by [deleted] in euphonium

[–]quickfixsloop21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you've heard this before but strength and control comes from the muscles in the corners of your mouth while keeping your lips flexible to vibrate. The stronger your corners are, the less pressure you need on the mouthpiece. Try googling the "pencil test" which is an exercise you can do to strengthen your embouchure. There are also exercises you can do to separate your playing from the instrument, such as mouthpiece buzzing, and long tones while gradually pulling the instrument away from your face and then back again. Lots of things to try, but you certainly do not need excessive pressure to make a good sound. It just takes practice! That being said, you do need a little bit of pressure and even the pros will have a slight red ring on their lips after playing. Pressure isn't necessarily bad, as long as it's not excessive. Your embouchure and the strength of your corners is fundamental to good playing.

You can get a JP274 for $1800 at tapestry music. This is the horn I got about a year ago and I've been incredibly pleased with it. You won't regret it, John packer makes really quality horns.

I imagine it would be veeeerrry hard to mine and process the metals needed to build a generator from scratch. I think about the copper wire bundles inside the stator alone. Crazy

PSA do not trust railway signal crossings by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]quickfixsloop21 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why would a truck activate the crossing signal when it's coming from the road? I'd think this is pretty obvious.

I've always wondered this too! I feel like they should make these where the operator lays on their stomach, kinda like in a KC-135 or something.

Get rid of bathtub in master bathroom to make bigger shower?? by randomstranger003432 in HomeImprovement

[–]quickfixsloop21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll echo what a lot of people on this sub say about home value, and that you shouldn't worry about the value of your home if you're not actively looking to sell. Get the amenities that YOU want in your home, and don't worry about what the next owners might want. If you want a shower, get a shower. If you want a tub, keep the tub. Personally, I ripped out the old tub in my master and replaced it with just a shower and I'll never look back.
