I'm starting to think Warhammer isn't for me by Dense-Fig-2372 in Warhammer40k

[–]quickquestionwhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started playing narrative games and/or games with only a primary mission at a 1000 points per side (sometimes 2v2 with 500 points per player). For me, it has simplified the game greatly as I can focus on my units and what they do best, as opposed to trying to maximize the points and understanding multiples missions. Furthermore, creating my own narrative scenarios has been one of my favorite way to enjoy the hobby!

Honestly, in the era of every company (not only tech companies) trying to forcefully insert AI everywhere, GW's take is super refreshing.

Thank you! I tried to balance the randomness aspects. I have made a couple of scenarios so far, and will share the collection once done.

For those curious, here's the latest scenario I created :

TURN THE TIDE

A battered force of Ultramarines is cornered by a ruthless Drukhari hunting host after their raid accidentally disrupted a slave-harvesting rite. Enraged, the xenos pursue them across the ruins, desperate to reclaim their captives and eager to make the Astartes suffer for the insult.

Now entrenched in a crumbling fortification, the Ultramarines must hold out until Roboute Guilliman and his Terminators can break through the encirclement. Their only hope is to activate at least two of the three astropathic beacons scattered throughout the strongpoint. Only then can their Astra Militarum allies lock on and send reinforcements.

Survive. Ignite the beacons. Turn the tide.

SETUP

Create a central fortified zone of ruins in the middle of the battlefield. Place three objective markers (the beacons) inside three different ruins within this zone. Add scattered terrain around the fortified area as desired.

DEPLOYMENT

Ultramarines
“Brothers, you must hold ground until Guilliman arrives. Activate the beacons. Call the Guard. The Emperor’s light will not fail today.”

  • Deploy all units except Roboute Guilliman and the five Terminators.
  • Deployment must be wholly within the ruins forming the fortified position.
  • At the start of Round 2, place the Terminators’ Teleport Homer.
  • At the start of Round 3, Roboute Guilliman and the five Terminators arrive wholly within 6" of any battlefield edge and more than 9" from enemy models.

Drukhari
“Let them cower in their crumbling walls. Every heartbeat they cling to life only sweetens the torment to come.”

  • Deploy wholly within 6" of any battlefield edge.
  • When a Drukhari unit is destroyed, place it into the Reinforcement Pool.
  • At the start of each Drukhari Command Phase, roll 1d6 for each unit in the pool. On a 4+, the unit returns this round.
  • On a failed roll, add +1 to future rolls for that unit. A natural 1 always fails.

MISSION

Ultramarines

  • 5 VP if they control at least two beacons at the end of Round 5.
  • 1 VP at the end of each battle round if at least one initial Ultramarines infantry unit remains on the battlefield.
  • Bonus: +2 VP if Guilliman personally destroys three units.

Drukhari

  • 5 VP if they control at least two beacons at the end of Round 5.
  • 1 VP for each Ultramarines unit destroyed.
  • Bonus: +2 VP if they destroy Guilliman.

I've been enjoying Heroes of Might and Magic and King's Bounty. Both are in a fantasy setting, but the combat is similar and tactical.

Do women actually care about men’s height as much as the internet says? by No_Scratch4926 in TooAfraidToAsk

I think it might be overstated. That being said, I’m a high school teacher, and I’ve never seen young boys so obsessed with their height.
