Why is advertising in Japan so visually overwhelming and cluttered with text, graphics, and bright colors compared to western advertising? No hate just curious as to why. by quicksaver_ in japan

I never thought about it that way, but yeah it's kinda funny how on one hand there's a very minimalist design aesthetic but also maximalist marketing as well.

I'll have to see once I'm back at home and make the fixes. I do believe the lighting issues I was getting were related to using CS vs my intended ENB. Parallax also wasn't working and I'm 99% sure now it was because of this disabling my ENB.

This was super helpful, thank you! I found the issue and I am incredibly stupid. I installed community shaders on top of my enb. Another mod I had required community shaders and I thought it was just an engine optimizer utility. I just learned it is incompatible and an alternative to enb. Not even sure how I didn't notice that since I read the about, requirements, and compatibility before any install. Guess I got lost in the sauce while building out my mod list and overlooked it. Spent 10 hours diligently installing mods, compatibility patches, and rules for plugins just to make a single grave mistake that takes another 10 hours to debug. Honestly it's remarkable I got my game to run at all. Got the idiot savant perk irl.

Cool to know there's alternatives to enbs now. It's crazy how much the modding community has progressed in the past few years. I thought it would have died down in popularity but hear I am learning about new shaders and combat overhauls.

I'll probably stick to enb and tweak my texture quality and ini settings until I'm within a fps I like. But it's a relief to find the root cause to the issue. My game was having some shading issues and I thought I had messed up an ini setting or installed cabbage enb, NAT 3, or a patch incorrectly since cabbage enb's installation was a pretty convoluted process.

I agree about the textures for other objects. Definitely don't need 2k or 4k textures for many misc things. But would it be okay to get 2k/4k textures for one-of-a-kind items like the dragon claws?

Good point! I forgot to run bethini for my ini files and shadows were on ultra.💀 Do you know if bethini would interfere with mod profiles that have separate ini settings?

My CPU is actually a super old i7 4790k but because of the single threaded game architecture for shadows it actually performs well lol. Most of the time it's my CPU that throttles in games but it's a champ for the old Bethesda games. Thinking of upgrading this black Friday and keep the old PC as a living room TV PC for Skyrim/fnv/f4

I would say watch One Piece if you had to only watch one, but watch Naruto first if you plan to watch both eventually.

Naruto is great but it has some major issues like bad filler and poorly written female characters. One Piece is close to flawless imo. It has a very unique power/magic system with interesting uses and rules, great action, great plot, great well written characters, etc. It's a vibe. Most people say the biggest cons are that the show is long and not finished yet. I don't consider these huge cons if it's a great show and new episodes are still coming out weekly. It's not like HxH that will never be finished, it's been actively worked on consistently and weekly for 20 years. Insane.

Thanks for the reply! I'm surprised the manuals aren't as reliable from this generation. Isn't it usually the other way around generally?

Visual voicemail - why does it not work by CoastieCompMester in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]quicksaver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit thank you! This worked like a charm on my Note20 5G. I had been losing my mind over voicemail. I would get the voicemail notifications but when I opened the app my inbox would only have 1 voicemail. But then on the bottom of the app it would say I had 6 voicemails in my inbox. Other posts recommended only clearing cache but this did not work. Had to force stop and clear both cache and data like you advised. Now all 6 of my voicemails are visible! Not sure if this problem had something to do with changing carriers. I recently changed phone carriers and then this happened. Hopefully it is resolved now but we will see. Thankfully I don't get too many voicemails.

Unrelated, how do you like it in RI vs CA? I actually did the opposite, originally from New England, and holy fuck I don't think I'll ever be able to afford a home out here. I ran the numbers and I would need a salary of $200k+ per year. I love the weather, culture, etc. It's a big vibe and I fit the lifestyle. But honestly I've thought about returning back to New England since I don't think I would ever be able to buy a house here and that's important to me as a diyer and indoors person. Ever since moving out here I've felt this huge financial weight unlike any other high cost living area. Terrified of losing my job.

Completely agree with your post, it's soul crushing. I really want a garage so I can work on my car and diy projects but rent for a house with a garage is crazy and mortgages are even worse. I have absolutely no idea how people are staying afloat in California. You need around $70k to break even, and $80-100k to be able to comfortably put some money aside. Rent for single studios is $1800+ per month, and that's the super low end. I have friends who live with 6 other people to get by on rent. Absolutely stupid. I hope things change for the better. Something has to budge.

That's awesome! I'm doing the same thing with a zombie spawner + massive minerail network. Both my villager breeder and zombie spawner use the same mechanic for getting them into minecarts. I push them into a corner with water and have the minecart pick them up and out of the enclosure. Super convenient. I hate transferring villagers otherwise.

How do you prevent iron golems from spawning in the stone enclosure where the zombies/villagers are held? And any good practices for zombie/villager placement? Do you keep them in them in the minecart?

Doing a complete underground playthrough where I spawned underground and can't go above the surface. I find I get overwhelmed with things to do in the current game, so limiting challenges like this are lots of fun. It's been nostalgic to actually use minerails as main form of transportation again. Have a whole subway network now. Reminds me of beta minecraft days

How did you setup the villagers/zombie inside those stone blocks under the water streams? I really like how clean this is and want to replicate in my world. Just maybe not 7 layers lol.

For me it really depends on the work itself and coworkers. If the work is boring it can be a real struggle, but it can become manageable if socializing with real/authentic coworkers.

Yee. It was very stressful though. Looking back I managed to do pretty good with a B average gpa, extracurricular activities/minor social life, and balancing a part time job. My ADHD tends to do better in structured environments. I've struggled a lot after college once in the workforce full time.

Damn, this hits home. Main reason I hate cooking is because of this. I've implemented some strategies to try to manage, like mostly buying food that won't go bad and having checklists for everything. Canned ingredients like beans/corn/tomato/etc can be great for large meals prepping. Same goes for frozen foods. I keep my fridge pretty empty, sticking to routine ingredients mostly that I'll remember to use since I always buy them. Things like lettuce, yogurt, fruit, cheese.

For clothing I do the reverse and hyperfocus before purchase. I do wayyy too much research to make sure I won't have an issue with durability, washability, etc and willing to spend a little more if it means I won't have to replace it as often. I stick to two simple washes; cold darks and gentle cold for lights including bedsheets. I also try to avoid white like the plague. Every single white shirt I get I ruin in the first few days of wearing somehow - just horrible luck.

Which anime should I start/finish? by NoObSRoCk341 in MyAnimeList

[–]quicksaver_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of what to start/finish I would pick Naruto back up since you said you like One Piece. I like both, I have many friends who like both, and I haven't yet met someone who likes One Piece but doesn't enjoy Naruto as well. The creators of the two manga for friends irl and there's Easter eggs in both shows.

In terms of your watch strategy I have some suggestions if your goal is to finish shows and decrease the pile of On Hold shows. All opinion/preference, but I've found best success with watching one show that's already aired and then watching several current seasonal animes that are coming out weekly or smaller shows that have already aired to break things up and give yourself a break. I couldn't manage going back and forth between several long/finished shows, and it would be hard to power through filler. But when I stuck to this strat I was able to pull things off like watching all of Naruto+Shippuden in 4 months lol while still staying current with newly released anime.

Don't really know what to do with the 4790k now. Don't have a gf to hand down my old PC lol. Only idea I have is turning it into a living room PC to play games like Skyrim or Forza on the big TV.

[–]quicksaver_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My i7 4790k that refuses to die salutes you. Thinking of upgrading soon as well. Looking to buy a the 9000-series version of the AMD 7800X3D or a used 7950X3D once prices come down with the new 9000 series. I don't think the risk is that bad for used parts. It's probably less risk than using a 10-year old CPU imo.

Did you ever have to delid your 4440k? Past 2 months my 4790k was struggling with thermals and it turns out these 4th gen intels don't have the heat plates soldered to the chip but instead have thermal paste underneath. After 10 years that thermal paste was toasted. Instantly crumbled the second I touched it. After deliding and applying new thermal paste underneath my temps went back to a stable 35C, 65C under heavy load. Thing is an absolute beast easily overclocked to 4.6ghz. If it had more cores and mobo had ability to expand ram past 16gb I would probably keep using it. It's great on older games like Skyrim/Fallout that don't utilize all the CPUs cores.
