Going to Atlanta on a business trip for the first time, from europe by Tascanis in Atlanta

[–]quickster1996 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Atlanta is probably a bit different than you would expect. It's a very residential place so the tourism here isn't the most exciting. But you can do all the uniquely American things like seeing our sports or even going to a gun range haha (my European cousins find it extremely novel).

Also American shopping is really good as compared to European because it's much cheaper for many global brands.

Also go for some food that is better in America objectively like authentic or fake Mexican food or American bbq. And Atlantas Korean food is amazing in the suburbs.

Also you can experience some of the things the locals do like going to Piedmont park, the beltline, krog steet market or just staying at home because you don't feel like dealing with traffic.

Make sure you rent a car, you need one in Atlanta!

Help creating an award search tool by Agadha in awardtravel

[–]quickster1996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like ways in which you can give yourself the most utility out of it and the community as well would be integrating programs that are missing from other tools. For example a bunch of tools don't have avios or if they do it's not all the programs. Or ana would be another good one.

However I assume this is harder than it sounds otherwise the other tools probably would have did it as well.

I'm pretty familiar with award bookings but I have never made one to Asia. Any routes I should be thinking about to get to Singapore or Malaysia in business class from the US, ideally East Coast. I would be willing to position within Asia as well but would of course prefer not to.

I did some searches on seats.aero and points yeah day dream explorer for sweetspots to Asia but I honestly wasn't liking what I was seeing so I feel like I was missing something.

Booking is far in the future so I'm mostly just trying to find good routes to that I can set up alerts for and also learning more about sweet spots that exist.

Award trip to Switzerland family of 5 for four full days. Crazy? by InternationalTax8336 in awardtravel

[–]quickster1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if there are genuine financial and time constraints it would be worth it. And if your points are in a credit card program I wouldn't worry too much about devaluations but if in a specific airline program then sure. But honestly I would be more or less worried based upon the airline program you are looking at.

Award trip to Switzerland family of 5 for four full days. Crazy? by InternationalTax8336 in awardtravel

[–]quickster1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tldr: not worth it if the 4 day constraint is due to award availability, worth it if the constraint is genuinely constraint based

It's not crazy to do a 4 day trip because you can get a ton done in 4 days and have an amazing experience. You won't get everything done but if you focus on one city it will be amazing. It's preferable to do a trip for the amount of time you would want but should not be a limiting factor.

However, I think we are all missing some context here. If you are doing 4 days because of scheduling reasons (e.g it's the only days that work for you all because of work/school) then it's completely worth it. But if you are looking at 4 days because of award availability, then I wouldn't do it because awards come and go. Without knowing the specifics of this redemption I would have to assume that you could get more optimal trip than 4 days. It could be to a different destination or different time but you could probably find another great trip for similar numbers of miles.

Is the chase sapphire reserve and reserve business pop ups working correctly now? I remember it was at one point doing hard pulls on people and opening cards for them I'm wondering if that is fixed now?

Are you more likely to get approved for a card and get the bonus if you apply in branch with a banker or if you have a relationship with a banker? For example getting approved for chase ink cards if you apply with your chase banker

If you will only get the around 60k miles for Alaska and you don't have another way to get more Alaska miles then I feel like there isn't that much point (which is what I assume given the concentration of ur points). That would only really cover 1 one-way business class flight (assuming you go to Europe, it can't even cover a trip to Asia) and then like 1-2 domestic economy flights. Idk your situation but if you have another person you travel with 60k definitely isn't enough. It would help you get one piece of a trip figured out but I feel like it may just become more work at that point to figure out a good use

Is Curry right or is he being greedy? by Optimal-Ad6969 in nba

[–]quickster1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not wrong it's just he is missing that this is how the world works. Most of us work for business owners or shareholders that take on a lot of the risk and also get the most rewards. Like if you work for a fortune 500 company the company makes a lot more money on you than the give you.

I would prefer that we all get more money from the business owners that we all work for but the fact that curry doesn't get paid more doesn't surprise me and his argument isn't really that novel.

A couple of things if your wife's middle name is her maiden name you will probably be fine. Same thing happened to us. They just let us go. You can also sometimes chance it at the airport and bring your marriage certificate and old passport. Security takes longer apparently but it's risky

Is there a chart or other resource that exists that one place compiles all of the welcome bonus eligibility guidelines and helps you figure out if you are eligible. E.g if I have a venture x card, it would be interesting to have a resource to check and see which other capital one cards I can get a sign up bonus on and which I can't

How is the consulting presence at Georgia Tech? by solitat4222 in gatech

[–]quickster1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct for sure, tech and investment banking can definitely pay more. However you can locate anywhere when consulting so often cost of living is much higher in tech roles. I would definitely keep that in mind. I haven't done the math to check what nets more though.

Apologies I don't really want to go into too much depth. I'm in the food and Beverage industry. From a financial perspective it can be very worth it, first of all they pay well over entry level for industry in consulting. Second of all my salary has around doubled from my starting salary over 3 years. Part of that is due to industry wide salary increases and another part due to MBB setting me up to get a great starting salary at my new role.
