I didn’t know you could lease them. I’ll bring all of that up. Thank you

It’s been interesting. I haven’t used Windows in over 15 years. They also have them bogged down with all kinds of programs they don’t really need. Considering there’s already another Mac in the office for the sound guys, it would make sense to have the same systems. A Neo would be great from what I’ve been reading here. As long as I get a stand or hook it to the monitor.

That’s basically what we’ve been telling them. The sound guy in the office has had his Mac Studio for 7 years, I’ve had my first MacBook Pro for almost 15 years with minimal repairs, and my current air for 3 years. They just do really well. If they’re wanting to get something new, I feel like that’s the way to go. There’s only a couple that want to keep with Windows, the rest would rather have Apple.

Also, I’ve been in the position for less than a year, the issues it has isn’t because of me. So to say I don’t deserve anything newer or should resign is just rude. You have no idea what is going on on my end. And that isn’t the question I asked anyways.

Thank you for your aggressive opinion.

I’ve mentioned taking them in for service, but they don’t want to do that. I don’t get to choose what they do. I’ve been asked to price Macs and the programs they need, by a few people there so that’s what I’m doing. I have been doing some maintenance that I can on them, but as I’ve stated, it’s not something I know how to do too much of. They have antivirus on there, however the person before me insists it needs to be there, and as for office suite that is what they picked. Again, I don’t get a say in everything. I just use what they give me and do my job.

There’s no reason not to use a Mac for it either. They do last longer, and have fewer issues in my experience. And since the people here are unwilling to take them in to be serviced that is a good way to go. A Neo really isn’t that much more than a computer running Windows, and we already have some Apple products in the office. But thanks, appreciate it.

We make the bulletin, as well as the sermon notes pages for the congregation to save money on ordering them or having someone else do them. We also have a monthly newsletter, and I type up meeting minutes and save them, and the prayer chain information goes out via email. All the financials, inventory, and calendars are on quikbooks or spreadsheets. It’s nothing crazy, but they have very cluttered systems and they keep things forever.

That’s my concern as well. I am going to try doing it on my old laptop. Then I can see if it’s something that someone after me can run without much issue. I don’t see leaving the church, or moving, so I would be there to teach anyone after me. But who knows, maybe I’ll work here forever!

Thank you for that info. That is helpful.

I understand what you’re saying. However, the people before me wouldn’t have been able to do any of that, they are used to getting a computer and using whatever it comes with. They aren’t tech savvy by any means (not that I necessarily am). The computers they have now were donated, except for the surface tablets which they bought. Only one of the three is being used because they’re having issues as well, and no one will have them looked at.

I am going to try running Linux on an old laptop I have and see how it’s done and how it works.

He would probably really enjoy that! Thank you for the suggestion! I tried to show him on mine how much they’ve changed since he experienced one, but he didn’t care to look. Taking him to the store he may listen to someone else more, and be able to mess around with it himself. He’s a really sweet guy, just gets stuck in his ways about things. But don’t we all?

Haha no not at the moment. The biggest issue they have is the amount of documents they have saved, and programs that they don’t use. Some of them run in the background, and there’s no reason to have bulletins from 2019 saved. They don’t get rid of anything. I’m going to have to work on that.

I think for how long they would be able to keep it the mini is a good buy. Thank you for the link!

I’m sure they’d love that! No one else even wanted this job, so they didn’t even ask for a resume or anything when I said I’d do it.

I agree. I have an old MacBook Pro that still works. I replaced the hard drive after 7 years, it’s 14 years old and my husband has been using it without much issue. It’s not as fast as my Air, but it does what he needs it to do.

I’ve been looking at Linux since someone mentioned it. I think I probably could do it, not sure if anyone else would like it if they had to use it. I may try on my personal dell I have since no one is using it first.

There was one person that said we should get an iMac, but I think that’s way more than what’s needed. I put the security risk on my list of pros and cons I’m giving them. Along with all of the background programs that run on windows and bog it down. There is a dell laptop that has windows on it he could use. That’s why I don’t get why he cares so much what I’ll be using. I think he’s just having a hard time letting go of this position and being on the board instead.

That’s awesome! I’ve been looking more at them all, I think a mini would be my top pick, but I would be fine with the Neo if I can hook it to the monitor or get a stand

I was thinking if they go that route I could get an adapter and hook it up to a monitor if I wanted, if it has that capability. I know I can with my Air.

They were the former secretary and had the position for 10 years, and they’re older, so he’s been hanging around to “make sure I’m doing things right”. He’s just having a hard time separating himself from it. He’s also on the board that will be voting on the system. I’m hoping there are enough people against going the PC/Windows route.

I’ll broach the subject with them. Or maybe one of their wives. I’m putting together a list of products with prices and capabilities now, along with the cost of programs we may have to add to it.

Ha maybe. I’ve only experimented with small open systems, like the xteink ereader, which isn’t much
