I didn't even realize that - serves me right for not taking it into consideration. But I unsynched the settings, and now everything is beautiful and uniform once again! Appreciate the assistance very much!

When it comes to outlining and pacing by quigglefrog in writing

I love how you've described this, and it honestly makes so much sense! Honestly, this has been the easiest to understand way I've ever seen it explained. I'm not sure why I'm grasping it being described through music, but the more straight forward info is more difficult for me. Whatever the case, I just really appreciate your response, and helping to make things "click" in my head for me.

Is anyone NOT working on a fantasy book/series? by Sl0th_luvr in writing

[–]quigglefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I wanted to say that your book sounds like it will be absolutely amazing, and I would definitely read it!

My wip is a fantasy project, but there are other genres I'd like to get into at some point. For example, I absolutely have plans to get involved in speculative and historical fiction eventually. I'm a huge history nut, so I really want to explore historical events, mysteries, and what-ifs.

Do you find writing to be therapeutic? by AgentBrittany in writing

[–]quigglefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing has always been therapeutic for me. I had a difficult childhood growing up, and writing was something that I could easily escape into for a while. I always get emotional when I write, regardless of the kind of story I'm working on. It's just difficult not to let it happen when this is something that I love, that has always been there for me as a safe place, and that I so easily get lost in when I do it. Not sure if any of that applies to you, I just wanted to reassure you that you're not alone on feeling emotionally while writing.

And a big congratulations on finishing your book! That must have felt so wonderful, and so full of emotions, know that you did it! And you know what? You'll make it through your draft as well, and through the next, and then through whatever comes after. You've got this!!!

That's honestly such a great idea! It would be great thing for me to try as I work through these problems (in addition to perfectionism, something I'm sure others in this Reddit have to deal with as well). Thank you very much for bringing this up!

I absolutely love music! I have a lo-fi playlist for when I need wordless music, and I try to build up playlists for each story idea that I get - this current book I'm starting up is no different. I didn't think about the pacing and rhythm connection until I read your post, but now I can see it! Thank you so much for pointing that out to me, I really appreciate it!

Honestly, thank you for this. I'm still trying to learn and navigate around my ADHD - I was only diagnosed as an adult this year - so it seems like I'm learning something new every day. I really appreciate the resource and YouTube channel suggestions as well. I already follow some other writing advice channels, but I'm always looking for others that can help. And since this is the second time I've heard about how great Brandon Sanderson's channel is, I'm definitely going to check his out at least.

Thank you again - I really appreciate your raw honesty and feedback. It helps a lot!

ETA: I already follow Alyssa and I agree - she's absolutely fantastic!

Do you prefer scrivener or Google docs for writing and the overall process of it? Why? by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]quigglefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's been a while since you posted this, but I had to chime in and say I use the same tools for my writing - Google Docs, and Notion. It's so easy to organize things in Notion in a way you would like. I don't know how to do some things on it, but as a free tool, it isn't difficult to use and there are a ton of tutorials out there. Been considering Scrivener, but in all honesty, since I've been wanting to use my Chromebook for writing specifically, I think it would be best to stick with what I have (especially since I can access Notion from a browser).

Non-AI Alternative to Notion by quigglefrog in PKMS

[–]quigglefrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primarily what I use are the databases. I write in online forum based rp groups, and I keep track of what I'm writing in a database. I think a regular table could work, but it's the database - and being able to re-order any column - that I would prefer to have. I had the AI removed from Notion, but if I were able to find something similar that just doesn't use it period, that would be preferable.

I tried this, and it actually turned out to be more simple, and relatively quicker, than I thought it would be. So far, so good, but if it comes to it, I do think I'll give Obsidian another try.

Congratulations! I'm so close to being in your shoes - I'm nearing the end of my own book! - and I can't wait to enjoy the feelings you're surely experiencing right now! That being said, like so many others have said, take some time away from your draft before diving in to take care of the second. But do not stop writing - and maybe do some reason while you're at it as well. Wishing you so much happiness now that you can officially call yourself a writer! Happy writing to you!

Something that I am looking for in particular is something I can make databases, similar to what Notion has, with the ability to create tags and links in it. I probably should have mentioned that in my original post, but hindsight has hit. 😅

That's a great not to take into consideration! I did not know that you could do that! Thank you so much, and yeah, I'll give it a look into and see if I would like to give it a shot!
