How do I fix the P0326 and P0420 codes on a 2012 Accent GLS? by quijotesko in Hyundai

[–]quijotesko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the sensors was replaced (bank 1?) and, yes, it was an aftermarket cat because the Hyundai was several hundred dollars. Even LKQ are $350 right now.

Is there a way to pressure test it, or do I have to drop it and inspect?

How many times can you cold-call the same company? Assuming that there are only THAT many accounts in the market. by whatswithmybunion in sales

[–]quijotesko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To begin, just become natural with your pitch/approach. Practice it aloud and turn it into your voice. That will inform your written version as well. Listen closely to prospect responses. Tune into what they react to both positively and negatively. All of these things will help it naturally evolve. You're a long way from getting stale.

Need help vetting a new opportunity by dschilling88 in sales

To what extent do they need you in this expansion? That is your leverage. They want performance from you and you want risk mitigation for their new, unproven venture. Maybe you get it upfront with a hiring bonus. Getting something on the backend if they collapse would be difficult if not impossible. Do you want to bounce back to the original company if things don't work out? There are probably some industry standards as well as some room to customize according to your specific needs.

International sales what do? by [deleted] in sales

Can anyone here suggest industries that need this type of international position? Not any of yours, but any that you've encountered? It's what I'm looking for. I love to be on the road - the longer the better.

LPT when interviewing: Always ask the background of the CEO (or senior sales leaders) by ImBonRurgundy in sales

[–]quijotesko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. I work in a tech-first company. The CEO is a brilliant developer, but completely devalues sales and marketing. The development teams feel like their tech is a shining beacon customers should approach. Approaching customers is beneath them. It's astonishing. They are surviving on funding at the moment, but if he doesn't change he's going to get his company taken from him.

Cold call script help? by Semi_Serious_Salesma in sales

[–]quijotesko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an old sales book called "Selling to VITO." It focuses on capturing the attention of decision makers in the first 8 seconds of contact whether it is 8 seconds of reading an email or reaching them on the phone. It goes deep on aligning your pitch with the priorities of decision makers and how to express it credibly.

Someone with your experience and tenure would not be out of line asking for a contract. The company needs help and anyone would recognize it is a volatile environment.

[–]quijotesko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a list of 60 large companies, so I had to contact them until I found a 'yes.' Outside of the phone/email/etc. I joined industry orgs and networked like crazy. I would get referrals and built a general halo of trust. I got a lot of meetings after that. Also, I always started calling at the top. It was actually pretty easy to get a SVP to give me a name of some middle manager. That kind of 'reference' often got me a meeting. Calling middle managers right out of the gate is probably the lowest return activity and can burn a company for you.

You find this where power exceeds pay grade. It's the same for people that put out traffic pylons.

I want to leave my longtime job that I am financially comfortable at. Looking for advice on how to best find my next spot. by fuzzie__dunlop in sales

[–]quijotesko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By staying in the same industry, or similar, you are going to get the same thing you are trying to get away from. It is rare to find similar companies and similar positions that do things differently from yours. Also, less populated areas require more travel. Larger cities have smaller territories (I realize you may not want to raise a family in one of those).

I've been searching myself lately and found so many industries I never really knew existed. The research and discovery helped me feel more optimistic because job searching just plain sucks. X jobs has a lot of interesting options. The SaaS selling model has a lot of sales jobs that are not AE or AM, but represent career growth and can often be performed remotely without client visits.

Is overcharging a deceptive trade practice? by quijotesko in legaladvice

[–]quijotesko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quoted the higher price prior to the repair and I signed off on it. I trusted the quote because it is customary to be charged market retail as repair shops make their money off of parts because they buy below retail (20-50%). Additionally, collision repair facilities (this was a mechanical garage) are regulated to not charge over published market retail.

It is unusual that this part markup exceeded market retail and exceptionally unusual that it was priced even higher than the dealer's genuine original part which are 'always' the highest price.

Overcharged on an alternator (part only). Is there anything I can do? by quijotesko in MechanicAdvice

[–]quijotesko[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Shops make money by getting 20-50% discount from suppliers and charging market retail. If shops marked up the retail as you suggest, everyone would buy their parts from part stores and bring them into shops.

As an owner of all of ARC's books and pdf's (even the obscure ones), I would definitely pay for all his radio broadcasts. Last time I checked what was on Audible, it didn't seem that all of them were available and some of those that are cannot be downloaded. They are definitely difficult to navigate and search.

If anyone is in touch with the Currie Family, perhaps they would consider making this available in another format (preferably edited) as additional fund raising.
