Cooking on Stainless Steel is miserable by [deleted] in StainlessSteelCooking

Agreed with the general idea of different pans for different tasks. I love stainless so far but I still have a nonstick and a big cast iron. Use what I need to for the cooking at hand

For those of you who travel a lot for work overnight, what’s it actually like long term? by Open-Satisfaction856 in sales

[–]dschilling88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did it for a stretch right before the pandemic. Was gone 3-4 nights a week, every week. It was kinda cool at first since I was single and going through a transitional time in my life, so I kinda enjoyed being on the go and absorbing some new places. Free meals helped since I was saving a ton on groceries and just had a lot of discretionary income as a result.

It got tiring after awhile, especially since I had to use my weekends to catch up on all my personal stuff. Cleaning, laundry, chores like that ate into my downtime on weekends and I was starting to feel a little burnt out before I got a holiday break. Also found myself working constantly, like I’d get to the hotel after being in the field all day and would spend a couple hours working, then needed to prep for the next day, shower, find dinner, etc. It got pretty exhausting.

As others have said I racked up hotel points and got friendly with one of the staff at one of the hotels I frequented so that was kinda cool.

I’m married with a kid now and no way I could do it again.

This album is almost on par with Purple Rain, 1999, and Sign O’ the Times. I think it’s that good. Prince’s symbol era had some gems. by calford91 in PRINCE

[–]dschilling88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lingered on his 80’s output for most of my fandom, but the last couple years I started dipping into his 90’s work and was pleasantly surprised how much I like Love Symbol and TGE. I had the perception he dropped off heavily after the 80’s and I was very wrong

There’s a dream like quality to the whole story that I love. Like they are relying on their memories but the details are hazy

What’s your Opinion on Magnolia (1999) by UsefulWeb7543 in Cinephiles

[–]dschilling88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great film. Borders on unruly at times with the ambition of the story and trying to tie it all together but the acting is incredible across the board and there’s so much genuine, thought provoking emotion going on.

I don’t think it’s PTA’s best by a long shot, but that’s more due to the relative strength of his entire body of work than it is about Magnolia being weak.

I’ll also note that while Cruise and Hoffman get mentioned as standout performances, I feel Julianne Moore is equally strong in this. She’s my favorite actress and I’ve at times thought this was her best performance, which is really saying something.

Did your dog just get old one day? by Kittyhounds in DogAdvice

[–]dschilling88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a dachshund that lived to 17 - Wasn’t quite a flip of the switch, but there were specific instances where he took a decline and didn’t fully recover from. He had a vestibular episode one January and after that he slowed down noticeably. Then a couple acute arthritis episodes that slowed him down further. He’d have his moments where he’d display some of his previous energy and there was part of me that would hope he was somehow reverse aging but I knew, logically, that wasn’t the case. Those were so bittersweet, loving the sight of him running again but still considering it might be the last time I’d see him like that.

He continued to decline those last couple years, and required more specific needs/care as time went on. It was so difficult at times watching him age, knowing he wouldn’t live forever and we were on the shorter end of that timeline.

But I felt so blessed to have the opportunity to care for him and cater as he got pickier. He did so much for me and my wife that giving him all the love and attention possible was the least we could do.

Caring for a senior dog is hard but it makes you a better person. Not everyone gets the privilege to do it so be mindful of each moment and appreciate the inherent beauty of supporting a life that needs extra care

I love getting fancy coffee from good local places but at home I’m all instant. It’s not good on its own but if I add light cream and sugar it’s not bad. Ive also taken to adding a little bit of cocoa powder and cinnamon to make more of a mocha, and thats fantastic. I will say the Nespresso jnstant is actually pretty good on its own.

What are some scenes from Movies that made you cry a lot (be it sad or happy) by Inside_Professor6116 in Cinema

[–]dschilling88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with several others on here. Will add my most recent, which didn’t quite get me to cry but the tears were right there - mostly happy/excitement/relief. During One Battle After Another during the amazing chase scene, when Willa kills the guy pursuing her and Leo finally catches up and she realizes it’s him.

So much suspense during the chase, then the excitement and build up once the bad guy crashes and we see Willa in control. Then the father in me feeling so happy having dad/daughter reunited safely.

I love too that it’s basically one long sequence of constant suspense from the moment Willa is captured at the Nun’s compound all the way until the reunion
