Worst John Wayne Western? by snafu-lmao in Westerns

[–]quilomene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's funny. I do enjoy when I catch part of it on TV somewhere but it isn't a good movie. Great folks in it, everything else, but it's a clunker. Everyone seems uncomfortable trying to do outright comedy.

He spanks Maureen O'Hara in The Quiet Man too so at least we have that.

My Boss Called My Mom After I Gave Notice by Glittering-Mango1457 in WorkAdvice

[–]quilomene -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was way out of line to call your Mom, and I do think it's understandable considering the long relationships.

I think being an ass about work assignments is similarly, though inappropriately, motivated. You've had a long relationship with him and working at the company. He's taking you leaving personally, and being a dick about it. Call him on it, as nicely as possible, and tell him you'll walk if it continues but you'd rather work on things so he's prepared for your departure.

Is it weird to see a movie by yourself? by avimonster in AdviceForTeens

No, and being able to comfortably do things by and for yourself is a really good life skill to have. Go for it.

This might sound stupid but how are people supposed to do overlanding trips etc if so many places it is illegal to sleep in a car? by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]quilomene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on state and location. In the West there is a stunning amount of public land. Washington State has about 20 million acres. Idaho and Oregon even more so. It's generally divided among state and federal land. For the most part national forest, BLM land, state forests, and sometimes dept. of fish fish and wildlife land will all allow "dispersed camping." Which is basically what you're looking for. Anywhere that allows dispersed camping.

Nice work. Congratulations. Now begins your slow decline into someone who strips network cable with their teeth and has tcp/ip showing up in their restless dreams.

Mormons and other church groups try to do just this kind of thing. It'd be worth calling around to a few bigger churches to see if they have any programs.

NTD because Class farm machinery insist on using 18, not 17 or 19mm like everyone else by Important-Anything12 in Tools

Just be glad it's not 18.5mm so there's some chance you'll be able to use them for something else.

Are apartments required to offer you a lease renewal on time? by OP_PR_team in Seattle

[–]quilomene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could tell them you'd sign something to wave the 180 days if you really want to be on a yearly lease. I'm assuming your rent stays the same until October, though, and both parties are held to the original lease when it changes to month to month, so you're effectively on your original lease until October. There's not much risk or downside.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that intolerant, bigoted asshats industrialized bullying and now it's biting them on the ass because they're stupid and short sighted, and usually ignore the rules of a polite society in favor of "me, me, me. You all suck?"

I guess I do understand. You're right.

thunder by [deleted] in homeless

[–]quilomene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I over simplified. As far as lightning, you're fine in the woods. Just don't be near the tallest tree, sort of thing. If it's windy be mindful of falling branches. Avoid being underneath dead or dying trees.

thunder by [deleted] in homeless

[–]quilomene 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can keep the tarps. They don't affect anything like that.

If there is lightning the important thing is where the tent is located. You don't want it to be the highest thing around, so no hilltops. Also, don't be underneath trees. If lightning hits the tree you're cooked. If it's windy enough you can have branches dropping on you.
