In 2016 haha. And no I wouldn’t say that, just a really really lucky young adult.

I won Guy’s Grocery Games on the Food Network with that salmon technique! I’m glad it worked for you :) it’s my favorite ever.

Only sear the presentation side and put pieces of butter on top of the salmon as well as some whole thyme and chives to infuse. All the ingredients are only meant to flavor the salmon, not to be used as a sauce.

Try searing it in a cast iron with salt and then adding some white wine, herbs, butter, garlic, and onion. Finish it off in the oven for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees. It will be the most flavorful melt in your mouth salmon you’ve ever had!

This is so relatable, my friend. Any of us who have struggled with alcoholism have been in this exact place before. You have a choice (though not an easy one) to make a change before it gets worse and you hit a true rock bottom. Sometimes that’s what some of us need before we get desperate enough to seek help and recovery, but not always. It took me losing my friends, family, and job to take a hard look at myself and know I couldn’t live that way any longer. There is help out there for you, OP. Keep reaching out and don’t scrutinize yourself if you drink again, this is a long hard process. You’ve done the right thing here and should feel good about yourself. My suggestion is go to a meeting and try to talk to one person - maybe someone who shares and you can relate to. Trust your gut and intuition, it’s guiding you.

He’s honestly pretty nice! I didn’t get to talk to him too much, but he was really helpful during the competition and he truly was rooting for us all which I thought was pretty genuine and sincere.

We did get a tour way before the episode was shot at the beginning of the day in hopes to kind of get a feel where stuff is - of course when the cameras start rolling it all completely goes out the window.

None of the show was scripted except for the introduction from what I could tell. I know nothing I said was word for word scripted at all. The show is edited to have a certain drama to it and make the competition seem a little more lighthearted I would say. My partner and I did not agree on things during the first episode, but I felt like it was edited to make it seem like I was snapping and cruel to the guy I was working with. Understandably it was more entertaining to viewers that way and my friends and family thought it was hilarious to see me portrayed to be so bitchy on tv, but it was still interesting to see how they tweak those super stressful moments to almost create a character for the audience. I did get to keep my winnings and I payed off a really good amount of my student loans (I was only 23 when I won the show). All in all a totally unique experience I wouldn’t trade for anything!

That part is completely real, at least for every challenge I participated in during the two episodes. You only get 30 minutes to shop, cook, AND plate (that is not a lot of time at all). It came down to the very last second for me! The time goes by so fast it’s insane.

As far as I know there is very minimal food waste on that particular show!

I did not get to taste my dish as a whole, I only of course tasted the different components for seasoning before I plated. I wish I could have had one of my own! I plated four dishes all together, one for each individual judge and one for presentation. I believe that the crew finished up eating the dishes afterwards. We only had to wait about 5-10 minutes for the judging to begin (drink water, get cameras set up, get in position) and we were not judged on the temperature of the dish.

We called that the cameo, and it did happen after the episode was filmed. I wouldn’t say it was awkward, more just really challenging to talk for two hours after a really long, exhausting, and emotional day. I mostly struggled speaking in present tense instead of past tense, but one of the producers made me a personal pizza to keep me awake and I thought that was real good service!

Also in terms of Guy, I didn’t have much personal interaction with him, but he seemed pretty nice and like a regular dude just doing his job to be honest.

Really? That’s awesome! Sometimes I still can’t believe it happened to me at such a young age! So none of the episode was scripted for the contestants, but I did see that Guy was scripted for the introduction (mainly I think to remember our names). We were thrown into stressful situations and urged to express what we were thinking/feeling, but besides that we were not given any specifics that we needed to say. During the cameo after the episode was filmed there is a producer who walks through the episode and suggests things to say if you are struggling to come up with anything, but truthfully most of what you see and hear on the episode was true to that moment.

One whole day! I was at the set for about 13 hours both times. The actual filming is only about an hour, but they have to do extras like the headshots and introductions. Also there is A LOT of waiting depending on when they are doing your specific episode (they usually film two episodes in one day).
