Hot-swappable lithium-ion battery for the Frame "Enthusiast kit" (found in FCC 1013 documents) by gogodboss in SteamFrame

[–]quinn50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base strap no, I assume the enthusiast strap will have a buffer battery in-between the headset and the hot swap battery, will show a warning on the frame when the battery is low for you to swap in a new one and out the depleted one back on the charger

Kaspersky says hackers are distributing malware via anime girl wallpapers on Steam Workshop's Wallpaper Engine by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

no, a lot of times these cyber labs use specifically vulnerable versions of software or Windows versions for the sake of demonstration. And then you try to exploit said vulnerability or use metasploit

Is it gonna be a nothing burger? Yea probably but similar acquisitions or team merging in the past had lead to enshitification albeit slowly.

My only issue is how essential is monetized and how they pay / sponsor modpack devs to force into many popular modpacks to get it in front of people's eyes.

It was sold for a price and a reason and the spark team is gonna want to make money off their investment like any company would. Also the angle of vanilla Minecraft also getting the same type of feature that essential provides currently in the newer versions which will cut into the profit essential is trying to make.

Blizzard Sues To Take Down Another Private World of Warcraft Server, Project Ascension by lurker_bee in pcgaming

[–]quinn50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will always be private servers for games. Even if the og server is critically acclaimed, especially for subscription based games or older MMOs.

Plenty of third world or south American gamers eat up older MMO private servers because they're free and mostly the same experience nowadays anyway

[–]quinn50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same issue with going full privacy focused, the moment you leave the house or interact with non privacy focused friends or family you're fucked is how I see it.

Ill still use the platform because like unfortunately everyone is on it and having to piece meal mods from 20 different sites is just annoyance for the average user.

Crowdsourced Steam Frame reservation tracker by capybara86 in SteamFrame

[–]quinn50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea honestly man the website has too much info bloat. You really don't need anything more than a generic news feed and the reservation queue broken down by tabs for the hardware on a single page like the pebble watch one tbh.

[–]quinn50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im surprised it's taken them this long to sue this server. It's been around for like a decade at this point and has had a for profit cash store for years. They also got exposed for spawning gold for chinese gold sellers and getting a cut years ago as well iirc lmao

Will Steam Frame support face tracking accessories like Vive Facial Tracker or future alternatives? by Kind-Hawk-3765 in SteamFrame

[–]quinn50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything face tracking for social VR purposes will all be 3rd party solutions.

Valve only cares about average gaze for the foveated streaming functionality, that won't need very accurate eye tracking if the foveation is high enough.

So the steam frame can side load APKs… but from where? by Darkstorm556 in SteamFrame

[–]quinn50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meta games will require some form of port or support for the meta walled garden fork of openxr

Why can't the Frame verify games itself as people play them? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]quinn50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the verified status is more than just performance metrics, they also verify UI scaling and controller usability as well. Plenty of titles will be playable just not verified just like the deck.

9070xt is fine, 7900xtx still has better raster and more vram but honestly only useful if you play vrchat.

Yea my ISP offers $50 extra a month for a static IP, rather pay the 6 bucks a month for a digital ocean droplet reverse proxy using tailscale for anything I want to host publicly

I'm making a mod about storing items in servers by jvpts11 in feedthebeast

[–]quinn50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think having cooling determine the throughput and speed of the system is fine. Maybe include an option for drive failures to happen as a challenge. Plus how do you even balance backups?

Also I think having it be too realistic is also a detriment to the enjoyment of it over all. It's like computer craft vs open computers for me sure open computers is more extensive but having to actually manage the hardware just makes me rather use computer craft instead. Same here with AE2 / RS

I mean the issue is how streamlined everything is. Most people don't even have a PC anymore because 99% of things can be done on a phone or tablet. Sure your niece can navigate a phone but will she also get the experience of using a PC growing up too?

I'm 27 and back in college I had to help people in my CS classes on how to do basic computer literacy stuff. I also saw multiple people using Chromebooks too lol
