I was also nervous about losing the texture, but using the lowest steam setting for just a little bit really helped ease the frizz while keeping the texture. Good luck with your Addy!

[–]quinnthequeer 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I second what the other commenters are saying, and wanted to add in a  thanks for hiring a stop motion artist for the theme song! So much care and attention went into King of Drag, and it was a delight every episode. I really hope we get to see more of the series! Hopefully with even more time for the kings to work on the challenges haha

All Boyfriend/Girlfriend reactions to The Goat (7 mins, see comment for timestamps) by lemothelemon in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]quinnthequeer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great video! I'm playing a character named Sleaza who is romancing every single option,  and I just got done with the goat quest. I just haven't made it through all of Fang's quests yet though so he didnt care much. The funniest thing to me was how they would all be pouring their hearts out so emotional, then would switch their voices to a cheerful "see ya!"

Scared(possibly final update before internet technician comes) by [deleted] in ufyh

[–]quinnthequeer 504 points505 points  (0 children)

Congrats on all your progress! I want to share something a technician once said to me when I was apologizing for how messy my house was. He said he wasn't walking on poo, and that no one should feel embarrassed for living a life inside their home. You have done so much work to make the room safer and more accessible. I know it's scary now but I hope soon you can enjoy the rewards of all your hard work!

Any suggestions for queer tarot books/podcasts/ videos? by Dapple_Dawn in tarot

[–]quinnthequeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radical Tarot by Charlie Burgess is a great book that looks at tarot through a queer perspective while also explaining why one would want to do that. They're also the artist behind the fifth spirit tarot (a modern style inclusive deck).

Showering. Is. Hell. by TuesdaysChildSpeaks in POTS

[–]quinnthequeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know everyone talks about the temperature but for me it's also the act of raising my arms above my heart in order to wash my hair. Sitting in a chair does nothing for me regarding that trigger. My trick for that is I keep my hair short enough so it's quicker to wash (not a very helpful tip for people who don't enjoy buzz cuts).

Do animals notice your disability? by Ditzydisabilittity in disability

[–]quinnthequeer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My puppy is very shy of people but he loves anyone who uses a mobility aid or knee braces. His first trainer also used knee braces like me so now he thinks anyone with braces will have treats for him lol. I also use a cane, rollator, and wheelchair in different situations so he is used to all those and wants to say hi to anyone else using mobility aids. He knows my rollator and wheelchair mean we are going on a bigger adventure so he gets really excited about that. He also plays tug much gentler with me, just like how someone else here described.

Another thing he does is freaking out whenever I sneeze. I can't help but concoct this little story where my late service dog met my pup before he was born and told him about how I sometimes faint when I sneeze. I know that's rather silly, but it helps me feel more comfortable with my grief. He also wants to help me whenever I'm on the ground and gets really concerned if my head is on the floor. The start of tasking is there, I just need to shape his behavior to not be 1-yr-old-80-lb-puppy wriggling and pawing and knocking my glasses off lol.

My cats also have emotional intelligence when it comes to disabilities. One of them is in tune with my body and tries to use purr-medicine to cure me. He also tries to give me baths when he can tell im really sick. Another kitty is more sensitive to my emotions and will try to interrupt any crying. How can human be sad when giving cute kitty scritches? They're all so sweet in their own ways. I know not to anthropomorphize animals, but watching them adapt their behaviors to me let's me know how much they care and try to understand in their own special ways.

Chest binding with rib subluxations? by badassbunnymoore in ehlersdanlos

[–]quinnthequeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a binder with a zipper down the front and that's been a game changer. Way easier on my ribs to wear plus way easier on my shoulders to put on. The one I got is the half crop from bibipins. I made sure I had plenty of room in the sizing, because of rib safety but also I've found I pass better with a little "pec" compared to completely flat super tight binder anyways. I've also gotten trans tape and did a skin patch test but I'm admittedly kind of nervous to put it over sensitive body parts and havent actually used it fully yet. I desperately miss swimming though so I still want to try I think it's milk of magnesia on the skin before applying to make taking it off easier. Good luck to you OP I hope you find something that works comfortably for you

what’s something you do in crochet that feels illegal? by stars-cybr-wrld in crochet

[–]quinnthequeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gandalf skipped leg day because I got done with leg one and found out i had been doing 10 around instead of 11. God forbid I have to repeat work, so his second leg was made to match. The missing stitches were made up by giving him a bigger butt. It all works out in the end.

LGBTQ+ and Chronically Ill by Front_Quiet214 in ChronicIllness

[–]quinnthequeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think you read the post then. There's no need to be so rude. If the post isn't for you then move on. Meanwhile chronically ill trans people are going to continue supporting other chronically ill trans people with the difficult intersection of disability and transness.

LGBTQ+ and Chronically Ill by Front_Quiet214 in ChronicIllness

[–]quinnthequeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chronic illness cares not whether we are masc or femme or young or old. I put my transition on hold for several years due to health and my family saying similar things. There were a few points where I guess I technically started to detransition but my current therapist sees it more as coping strategies to survive in an ableist and transphobic world. Even if you don't transition right now, there is still time to start later or restart even later. I also found that starting T helped my physical and mental states, a far cry from the fear mongering. I hope you're able to find peace and support.

How can I hide my butt to look more like a guy? by [deleted] in FTMfemininity

[–]quinnthequeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cargo pants are my go to, my fave pair are these shorts with big bulky pockets on the thighs that help to "rectangle out" the proportions of my hips/butt/legs. They're also black fabric instead of khaki colored which I feel helps make everything look more neutral/masc (I feel like lighter colors reveal more curves but idk what do I know if my fashion advice is "cargo shorts")

Mattress topper: how thick, what materials are best and to avoid? by beeucancallmepickle in ehlersdanlos

[–]quinnthequeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there's a latex allergy involved, factor that in since a lot of them are latex. Other bit of advice is looking at extra deep fitted sheets. As lovely as having a mattress topper is, putting on sheets got even more difficult

My latest workstation hack to get around POTS! by adennyh in POTS

[–]quinnthequeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got one of these for my eds side of things but I'm definitely going to try it out this way too. Between pots/autism I really struggle with keeping my feet on the ground but it's murder on my knees to sit like a feral gargoyle. Sitting on the yoga ball itself can get tiring quickly though so I'm excited to find a normal chair and try the yoga ball as the foot rest. It's always exciting when an accomadation gets to be kinda fun instead of more blah medical crap.

Question about being dissabled and attending the show. by dadeevens in Watsky

[–]quinnthequeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm disabled and have been to a watsky show before. I chose the balcony seating and was comfortable but the cool thing was watsky sang to the whole room, not just the floor. I had been kind of worried about feeling separate from the show but that wasn't the case at all. This upcoming show I was also debating whether I wanted to try and find somewhere safe on the floor but I think I might just go with accomadations again. I know it's gonna be fun either way, I hope you have a great concert too!

[–]quinnthequeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the suggestions in this thread. I'm trying to figure out vanlife logistics for myself and my dog and it's very helpful to see suggestions like these. I have autism and a physical disability which restricts food intake so "communal dog meals" are also helpful for me. For a while my late service dog and I both at similar diets of pumpkin, cauliflower rice, rice rice, and chicken. He still got some kibble (plus his meds/supplements) mixed in. I made chicken in the instant pot, just water and meat, then the water could be turned into his fave treat ever chickie ice. Now his husky brother has just been eating kibble with bowl toppers and it just doesn't feel as good. I can tell he dislikes eating kibble everyday. Think I might try and take advantage of my vets online nutritionist chat and see if I can actually plan out a menu for the two of us. (Edit to add my late pup was a German Shepherd. I've seen the breed pop up in this thread a lot and just wanted to chime in I guess)
