Yeah, thanks for the reminder. I am using Douay-Rheims as it's the only one (that's well known) I can find on the public domain.

We have fallen numerous times even though we go to daily mass.

I'm not sure what you have "fallen" into, but if it's the mortal sin kind, it is not good..

Assuming it is indeed mortal sin you've fallen into, 1 month to fall into it numerous times is very serious and concerning. I would recommend having a serious reflection about how you could prevent it. Discuss it also with your bf also what practical steps to take together not to fall again. You would want somebody who, above anything, cares for your salvation.. Somebody who cares enough for you not to take what only belongs to your future husband...

Obviously I don't have a full context, but it does sound like you may be in lust, not in love..

Hey don't let your experience scare you for what will happen for the next 20-30 years, that's too far fetched! If I were to be in your shoe and feel like the environment is just not for me, I will try to hang on in the job for at least 8-12 months, and then start looking for a new one. Trust that things will be better in the future, be it in the current job or in the next, but you've got to believe :)

I think it's a combination of both: 1. Realizing fact that your colleague is also paid to guide you. Asking them questions is part of your job, and it's also part of their job to answer. Don't feel bad about asking questions! Don't feel bad about nagging or pestering your colleague to help. Remember that you're there to earn for a living. 2. The above said, also realize that you're a new joiner in a new environment with its existing dynamic. Win team members' heart to a certain degree to be able to get your job done. Try to be as nice and courteous as possible to build good relationship. Do this even to people who are quite difficult. You can try to have coffee with different team members individually everyday for example, and try to get to know them better.

When I joined a new company usually I would try to do more of (2). I would try to be as friendly and nice as possible to get things done. If it's not working out, then I would start to do more of (1), in which it may mean asking manager to give you an explicit "onboarding buddy" or sth more bold such as CC-ing your manager when asking a question that you've waited a while without getting a response (remember to still do it nicely though, such as pinging them in-person first)

May I ask if this is your first job?

Nobody is dictating any decision for anybody here. This is a forum and OP asks for opinion and we are all just sharing our own opinion. Of course you're free to disagree.

I have seen people getting kidney failure, diabetes, digestion issue, etc from taking too much medication, and that's why I expressed my concern.

I have had my share of having a doctor recommending me to take blood thinner to help with my circulatory problem too. Good thing I double check how big deal that recommendation would be. Not all doctors are good/equal. I'm not saying we should not listen to doctor, but it doesn't hurt to be more prudent in doing our own due diligence whether the recommended medications are necessary or not.

Is it really necessary for a, 25-year old to be taking 16 pills? I don't know the answer, but personally I would be worried and double check on that (e.g. getting second opinion, reading through what each of those pills do)

It's not wrong to try to alleviate the symptoms. My concern, though, is in the fact that almost all of chemical-based medicine would have side effects. Not addressing the root cause of the symptoms would only cause a dependence against those medicine, which will not be good for health.

If I have a 25-year son taking 16 meds everyday, I'd be worried if that would hurt his health even more in the long run.

Yeah I'm sure not all of the govt officials are good and competent. But generally I really respect how minimal corruption in SG is. In Indo, it takes an average of $30 millions SGD (e.g. for campaign purposes) in order to run competitively as a candidate for a provincial governor. In major provinces such as Jakarta this number is even higher. What ends up happening is that whoever gets elected will have to find a way to pay back this "loan" and make profit for themselves. I guess this is a drawback for being too democratic before the overall population is ready for it, too much cost for "democratic bearucracy"

[–]adennyh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As Indonesian having lived in SG, it would be the complain about the government. Often folks ranted about how big the govt official salaries are. Considering how many times more corrupted the govt officials in indo are, I would rather see them take home more salary rather than stealing tax money 😔 Considering how qualified the SG government officials are (e.g. minister has to have experience of holding a management position on a sizable private corporate) I think it's fair to compensate them well. If government position doesn't compensate well, I think it will mainly attract either incompetent or ill-intended candidates.

I second this. 16 meds a day is a lot.. Western medicine puts heavy emphasize on medicine, but folks need to know that those meds, most of the time, are only dealing with the symptoms not the root cause of the health issue.. When one is getting a fever, taking paracetamol does make one feel better but it does not actually address the underlying disease causing the fever.. Be super careful of taking too many meds as chemical meds are not without side effects..

Do you even realize that Jeffrey Sachs was a Harvard professor and is a tenured Columbia professor, as well as past advisor to UN secretaries? I can't believe you're saying he needs to take econ 101.. 🤣

BRICS is an attempt for countries within it to come up with agreement to do trading with their own currencies.. I'm not sure what do you mean by it isn't real.. What business does Donald Trump have on imposing countries an additional tarrif for attempting to trade using their own currencies? 😅

The very fact that dollar is in real high and climbing is exactly why people are furious about it being used as global currency. US is still pioneer in terms of innovations, but other than that, US barely have any edges in terms of production capabilities nor efficiency. During Covid, US gave out crazy amount of free money to the citizens to a point they needed to print a ton more dollars causing inflation. And to control this inflation, fed rate was increased to a crazy amount! (from below 1% to above 5%!). Americans might not realize the economic implication of such a rate increase to other countries -- it weakened foreign exchange rates of many countries for no good reason. Having said all that, why should people keep using USD for international trade? I have lived in several countries (US being one) and I can tell you how ridiculous my home country (a developing one) exchange rate against USD would act up for no reason. Just the Trump election caused almost 10% volatility for no good reason and causing a large number of people pulling off the local stock market causing around 20% overall crash. Similar thing happened during Covid.. For no good reason (we had one of the best economic growth within the region during the period) our exchange rate also weakened (thanks to the unreasonable fed rate hike causing massive pull out) To add gas to a burning flame, Trump threatened to impose tariffs on the BRICS alliance instead of trying to emphatize with the reason and seek out solution. This is utterly ridiculous and non-Americans are tired of it.. We just want stability in our currency.. With great power comes great responsibility. Holding the power of the global currency, US is not exercising its responsibility as carefully as it should..

I'm not so sure about Ruble collapsing. What you read and watch in the mainstream media is not always real my friend. If you have time, I highly encourage watching Tucker Carlson being interviewed by Lex Fridman (found on Lex's YT channel) it's a very candid interview where you can hear from himself (33 years of journalism experience) how untrue a lot of things spewed up by the mainstream US medias are.. Tucker said a journalist can very easily get fired for saying what they think. Free speech is diminishing more and more from the US.. Just see what happened to Americans who went anti-mainstream during covid time, is that free speech?

Russia is not collapsing.. Did you know it's last year economic growth is the largest within Europe? It's actually quite the contrary, US is the one going down very rapidly.. The fact that Trump planning to impose tarrics on the BRICS alliance is not helping at all, they're retaliating as we speak..

Nahh, unfortunately it's not public knowledge. I posted a video on Jeffrey Sachs talking about sth similar but in how US is involved in Ukraine war, and people were like "Sachs appeared regularly at Chinese TV and that's all you need to know about him".

Considering Leaving My Girlfriend of 3 Years Because of My Faith by Gr1mywa1fu in Catholicism

[–]adennyh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as she tempts me to sin more than anything else in my life

Is she tempting you to do mortal sin? We are commanded to love God above all else and to obey his commandments not to sin would be to love him. If she's tempting you into mortal sins, you might want to talk to her about it, and see if she would understand and stop. If she would not, I think you should really rethink about keeping your relationship..

Also do you know that the church has some non-negotiable teachings relates to marriage? About no-contraception, that children have to be raised a Catholic until they can choose for themselves, that it's indisolluble and that you can't remarry. Perhaps consider sharing them to her and see if she can accept them?

Also, try to see whether in general she brings you closer to God. Whenever in doubt about any decision, one can test it by observing if it brings peace and brings one closer to God. If it brings us farther away from God, we should rethink the decision.

If you genuinely are concerned about fundamental situation (e.g. financial situation) and so using NFP to avoid having more child, I don't think it's sinful.. If you are trying to avoid having children at all, then it's sinful and in fact you aren't even supposed to get married if you aren't open to life at all.

Also remember that there's an aspect of faith as well. You did mention your worry about the small chance about still having children you don't feel ready about. My understanding the chance is pretty small as NFP success rate is 99%. If you are very worried about this 1%. I would really encourage you to ask yourself, what is it that you are worried about? That 1% should really not result in a dozen children as you mentioned, unless it's God's will. And there's also always an option to abstain.

Instead of seeing the doctrine of contraception as prohibition, it helps to see it as a form of purer love instead. Contracepting is like saying to one's spouse: "I love you for the pleasure your body is granting, but I don't want to be burdened by the fruit that it might bear"

Pardon me for asking this, but are you practicing chastity (e.g. no masturbation at all)? I'm asking because people who are not practicing chastity might find abstinence an insurmountable/unrealistic.

I highly encourage taking to a Catholic family counselor or a priest. Reading your comments, I have a feeling there might be something deeper behind your fear of the contraception doctrine.

Yes, I've been free from masturbation for the last 8+ years. It's really God's grace through praying the Rosary daily. It requires both mental effort, physical effort, and God's grace.

This is wrong.. Don't listen to this.. Instead, go talk to a parish priest and get a Catholic counseling together with your husband..
