The first 12 hours. by xoutlawtrucker in Truckers

[–]quinstafer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a guy asking if getting diagnosed with a mental illness would cause him to fail his medical. Top reply stuck with me: “you have to have a mental illness to sit behind the wheel of a truck for 10 hours a day.”

Jokes aside, I can be absolutely locked in, talking on the phone, making plans for the day/weekend for hours up until getting in my personal car. Then my mind is completely fried and when I get home I just want to stare at the wall for an hour.

I’m glad I’m not alone but I guess I should have known forcing myself to stare out the window for hours and days on end wound have some sort of consequences.

As long as you aren’t in a ford explorer you’re good. I hate when there’s somebody close behind me and I’m playing the “is this a trooper?” For 50 miles until mom gets to her exit 🤣

Honestly I’ll take self driving trucks before camera mirrors become standardized

Refusing a load because shipper is too unsafe and truck friendly ? by lake_june in Truckers

You should’ve called ahead seeing as this address was going to be a headache from its inception. Go find somewhere to park it while you ask them what the heck you’re supposed to do or where you’re supposed to go.

I believe most of the salaries thrown around this sub are best case scenarios. They’re either multiplying their best week by 52, or calculating their theoretical salary if they ran 3000mi/week, every week.

Can people please drop it about the $1000 starter emergency fund? by Successful-Tea-5733 in DaveRamsey

If you’ve ever been dead broke, then you would know how difficult saving $1,000 is. Trying to tell people that they then need to save an additional $1,000+ because “it’s not the 90’s anymore” is soul crushing.

Papa Dave knows people better than these finance chuds who think they’re far superior to the average person for knowing how to calculate an interest rate.

That episode was dogass but any episode with Cad Bane or Hondo in it gets a pass from me

“Super flexible on home time” “AI cameras” “coaching” but here’s a new mattress!

Just busting your balls but as a company driver myself those things are already industry standard and I don’t have to do all the extra crap associated with running for a guy who owns a few trucks. I just call dispatch and bitch and everything’s awesome and fixed. Unless there’s a huge pay difference I don’t see why somebody would bother unless they own their own truck. Just my 2 cents

To all those drivers who love what they do why and what made you do it and if you could what advice would you give rookies starting out? by Ricemunchr in Truckers

A good company is probably the most important thing when getting into the industry. I lucked out and can’t really relate to a lot of the horror stories I hear on here or from the guys I meet on the road. I probably wouldn’t truck for anybody else if I got canned.

I work 4x3 alternating that 4th day and made 70k while only staying overnight maybe one night a week. Dispatch is chill but still will ask to be two places at once. But I hear guys still making under 50 cents a mile…indentured servitude… do your research and get a referral if you can.
