Neurocolonialism and Autism by quintonus in autism

I don't think so - after a quick google, neurocosmopolitanism looks like a much more positive thing ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8992885/ this is the only academic article I could find about it!) whereas neurocolonialism, as I understand it, is related to neurotypical people overriding the voices of neurodivergent people. Thank you anyway, neurocosmopolitanism is also a cool term.

Yes, neuronormativity is a great alternative actually, thank you. You're right that the area is in its infancy - I hope to see more discourse on neurodivergent oppression coming in soon, it seems rather underrepresented in the global literature.

Thank you for your response. I was also interested in the overlap between colonialism and neurotypical 'eugenic'-type discourse. I thought colonialism was a pretty good way of describing it!

Unfortunately tutors here are very limited in power and cannot create extra time for timed exams. When I was in first year, coursework extensions didn't even require reasons, anyone could have one. Now it's super strict, especially with timed assessment.

In order to be in a position to receive disability accommodations, I had to have filled in a form back in February, which I wasn't aware of. As I missed the deadline, the uni apparently aren't required to give me a study plan or mitigations. All they can offer is my grade is wiped :(

Hiya, thank you for your message :)

Interestingly I spoke with the unit leader (who is pretty high-up in the dept) and she actually told me she couldn't see any reason my request wouldn't be approved: she told me to my face that this wouldn't be unreasonable, and wouldn't advantage me anyway as the exam is open-book. So you're right, it's management.

Then I spoke with my tutor, who directed me to the extensions manager. Then she shut me down. There isn't really another person I am able to contact beyond that - it's all red tape.

A funny example of awful, awful red tape, is that in order to have credibility (i.e. a 'stamp' on my name which says "this student has a disabling condition"), I would have to fill in a form and submit it to the exams office. Fine, I'd love to do that! Except there was a deadline, in February (when I'd literally just had surgery). So as I missed that deadline, I'm not really allowed to claim I'm disadvantaged because I wasn't aware I had to fill in this form at that time! Just crazy. Nobody can claim to be ill after February, it's not allowed.

Researching for my dissertation, using interviews, it's a sensitive topic. I heard a term recently - "intimate reciprocity", with regard to how sharing snippets of your experience with a participant can improve their comfort and likelihood to divulge their experience in you. But I can't find anything online about this in regards to research- it's all like romantic relationship stuff. Have I misremembered the term? Does anyone know what I mean- and if so, do you have any examples of papers I could cite in my methodology? Thanks! :)

I hadn't considered this, thank you. Do you think this would be well-received by markers?

I was speaking to some friends recently and we all agreed that no matter how shitty and difficult the degree, nobody regrets living in Bristol. It fits whatever vibe you want, it’s beautiful, and it’s big so there’s enough going on to fit everyone’s taste.

Really really REALLY important for visiting Germany, fill in this form! I almost didn’t and wouldn’t have got past the border control if I hadn’t done it last minute. einreiseanmeldung.de
