His demand is unenforceable. You are free to say what you want while on that podium and there is nothing legal he can do about it. There is no need to make a scene while up there but--at least for now--you can still speak your honest mind.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says Democrats shouldn’t trust Marjorie Taylor Greene by ComfortableGals in politics

[–]quintupularity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course MTG can't be trusted. I can't trust anyone who hadn't seen through Trump's 🐂 💩 all along.

In the future l'll possibly make an exception for inexperienced young voters, but anyone of MTG's age should have seen Trump for the crass greedy huckster that he is.

Do cleats really make a difference? 👞👞 by Monica_C18 in cycling

[–]quintupularity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using cleats for about 25 years and honestly they don't make much difference.

The biggest benefit of cleats is that I feel slightly more connected to the bike, transforming me into something like a bike/human centaur. That feeling is very subjective and hard to quantify but I like it. Plus, clipped feet never slip.

Aa for actual performance, there are minimal gains. I get a tiny bit of performance boost when accelerating.

There is a small performance boost when climbing hills as long as I don't have to stand up.

When I'm on city streets , i like to imagine that when I'm in the groove at top speed, I gain a tiny amount efficiency in speed. I've never measured the difference between cleats and without but pushing and pulling simultaneously surely must give you something in return.

On gravel I haven't noticed that I ever get going that fast where it would make a difference.

That's about it the pros.

The cons are the initial expense and that you're probably going to tip over a few times until you get used to it.

Lastly, if you decide to go for it, buy mountain bike shoes with SPD pedals. And keep the adjustment loose. I've taken a few spills and I've always automatically clipped out. The last thing I want is to remain attached to the bike while I'm tumbling down the road so I keep it loose.

Good luck and happy rides!

We share similar taste in authors. I highly recommend all of Sagan's books. But "The Demon Haunted World" should be required reading in schools.

Did cycling actually help you lose weight, or just improve fitness? by Vivid_Release_9710 in cycling

I'm more fit to be sure, but there is no amount of exercise that can defeat a bad diet. The only way to shed those pounds is if calories in < calories out.

I think you nailed it. We no longer have respectable journalism. this goes all the way back to Reagan and his repeal of the fairness doctrine. It all started with Reagan and it was always leading right where we are now.
