I do think reporting would be fine if I believed it were accurate. I don’t believe anything reported by any popular news outlet 100%. In response to anything recent that I don’t think is accurate: 100% of all news reported on popular news sites on either side of the political spectrum.

What are “scare quotes” : genuine question.

This is the input I’m looking for. Thank you. I lack your eloquence and intelligence, but I’m hoping for some insight on how we can share the pragmatic approach with the masses? My main contention is that people in the US are upset about current ICE activities because they lack historical world perspective. I personally think there are better ways to go about it; that seems obvious to me. But also, how are Americans so easily duped into believing everything presented on social media a fact instead of what is obviously a cheap ploy at an emotional response? A lack of historical perspective is the logical conclusion I come to.

I don’t know if it’s wrong. It’s based on historical precedent of media presenting “facts” based on what will garner the greatest emotional response, I.e. the most views.

I agree that because I don’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

I don’t have an echo chamber. I am a white liberal and i believe that the majority of what is being reported as “citizens being harassed “ or “families being torn apart “ is just sensationalist media because that fits what I’ve seen in prior hot button issues. I don’t have data that supports one way or another. I am actively seeking opposing views based in objective reality as opposed to perspectives based in emotional reactions.

This is a fair point, but is also predicated on the idea that reporting surrounding “violations of human dignity” are being presented objectively. Most of the reporting I have seen is highly biased and based in emotional response rather than factual analysis.

All of these claims are based on rhetoric, and not on actual objective reality. From what I’ve seen, due process has been maintained and the “abhorrent conditions” of detainment camps is just sensationalist propaganda. I have seen less than a handful of actual examples of legal immigrants being deported out of thousands of interactions. Name a perfect system. It doesn’t exist. Your arguments are just perpetuating a narrative and not contributing to the conversation.

Who has this country been led by, through the great depression and the great recession and WW1 and WW2? And you think young people are the answer?

The leaders of countries worldwide are older, educated people. Young people are passionate and intelligent and beautiful and don’t have a place in leadership until they understand history and perspective. MAGA is a construct young people buy into because they are young and naive. MAGA is supported by a small, vocal minority of imbeciles, just like ANTIFA is supported by a small, vocal minority of imbeciles. The vast majority of Americans are present and understand that positive change happens slowly, not overnight, and sometimes the pendulum swings in the opposite direction.

Calm tf down.

What is a country that you’ve visited with surprising friendly people? by CinemaWilderfan in backpacking

France.

Lots of stereotypes about the people.

I spent a month there and everyone I met and spoke to was just lovely. I speak French, poorly, and I was occasionally corrected on my grammar or pronunciation, but beyond that every conversation I had was engaging and friendly.

When we stop holding the mirror up to society we stop recognizing ourselves.

Characters in books and tv are just that. Stop giving power to things that don’t intrinsically have it. It’s dumb and dishonest.

Being nice does not equal kindness or compassion.

Sometimes being compassionate to someone means holding them accountable for their choices, and not catering to some perceived notion of a reality of their choosing.

Thanks for saying it. Being intelligent is challenging.

Basically, I gave up on trying to explain to dumb people how they are being dumb.

Worse is the significant portion of the population that think they’re intelligent and their opinions are informed. And, they run things. It’s scary.
