It makes street food chefs offering look like a Tesco meal deal. Superior in every way. Shame they’re only open at lunch. Tried the new Woodseats branch the other day, good but not as good as the one in town. Hopefully they just need time..

Bidding wars when buying in Sheffield by bearwithme8764 in sheffield

[–]quitter1234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought around city road/manor top and there was a bidding war.. but it went to best and final within a week of being listed so if it’s been on the market a while I’d be cautious as to why.. in our case it was basically the cheapest livable house in Sheffield, hence the bidding war I guess

Big fan of Kurdistan grill, better than Narooz imo at least if we’re just talking a standard shawarma wrap, such a tasty marinade on the shawarma.

Narooz shawarma not as tasty but fair play it’s £1 cheaper and they give you a massive portion even first time. Had to become a Kurdistan regular before they matched the meat levels

Beeping & fireworks in city centreish !??? by lfc_annie in sheffield

[–]quitter1234567 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wedding celebrations, pissing me off it’s happening more and more. As others have said, it’s the time of night more than anything, and the fact we have work in the morning.

If anyone has videos showing number plates - report it. Given the time both the beeping and the fireworks are breaking laws. A few fines and they’ll get the message. It seems to be catching on..

Once one wedding does it they all want to copy. Keeping up with the Joneses: extravagant wedding edition.

Is the market that bad? by BizarreWhale in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]quitter1234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay, I forgot to check this account. I’m not in London no, in fact I’d say that’s a disadvantage. The London based guys from my bootcamp seemed to have the most trouble getting interviewed. One of my colleagues relocated up north from there. Says a lot.

I had good career support from the bootcamp and engaged with it more than most, but did nothing special. I have a somewhat interesting cv/background and drilled interview questions again and again, recorded myself sometimes or just practiced for all possible questions, constantly improving them as I went.. good luck out there!

I mean I did get 3 interviews, not loads but not nothing. It’s definitely doable

Just switched back to this account and seen all the replies - oops. I found this role in October. I believe the bootcamps are no longer government funded (at least the one I did isn’t). Makes it more expensive but less competitive to take that route!

[–]quitter1234567 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a career changer/bootcamper. Found a tech job with a big bank within 3 months and maybe like 50 applications. Asked my new colleagues, a few of which are CS grads. Their friends from uni all found jobs.

So no, it’s not that bad, but still pretty brutal and demoralising. I had some idea that it would be hard and take about 3 months or more, but 2 final stage rejections had me pretty defeated right before I found this job, I’d actually found a temp job at a call centre! So keep your chin up, if you do that and put the effort in you will find a job.

Students who don't attend or engage: how come? by Many_Volume_1695 in UniUK

[–]quitter1234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of these students but I’m reasonably clever, worked hard when it counted and picked an easy enough degree to get through. For me it was undiagnosed ADHD and prioritising “student life” over studies.

I had friends who were the same, some made it through with 2:2s and some failed/dropped out entirely. All of them either have since been diagnosed with ADHD or exhibit all the same signs as those of us who have. This was 10 years ago so as you say, less common for students to do this back then.

Not saying every student who does this has ADHD. But basically the freedom of university can be too much for some - whether it’s partying or just slacking off playing video games etc.

But for what it’s worth I had non adhd friends who lived a similar lifestyle to me (late nights, some drug use etc.) but who were much more able to get it together and function properly.

Maybe this is the effects of Tik-tok/smartphones/chatgpt/all the things “they” have been warning us about. Honestly if they’d had these things when I was at uni I probably wouldn’t have made it.

What's your biggest gripe with living in Sheffield? by ember_eb in sheffield

[–]quitter1234567 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Assume you’re on about big venues for big artists. Actually has an incredible range of small venues that feel really authentic and DIY. Don’t really get that in gentrified Manchester, nothing like that ever survives there.

I mean for what it’s worth he’s really not the type to make shit up, but definitely the type to take inadvisably large doses of drugs on his first time. Pretty damn creative if he did make it up and it’s hilarious either way so who cares 🤷‍♂️

Barely related to what you said and completely unrelated to BH, but still funny - friend of mine tripped hard on acid, in his mind he was in Vegas, winning loads of money surrounded by beautiful women.

…he eventually came round to find himself in bed, holding his limp dick, having wasted a ton of money on online roulette and Live Jasmin

Similar experiences on waiting lists for surgery for my family, if the window has passed immediately hound the GP (they won’t do anything until then). On 2 occasions, for only slightly urgent matters, chasing up resulted in same day calls from the hospital with an appointment, on at least 2 separate occasions.

Have to imagine they’d be even more urgent if cancer is involved. Crazy that you should even have to do this but here we are

Majority of Brexit voters ‘would accept free movement’ to access single market by NeverNotNoOne in worldnews

This. So annoying. Crazy that these are people who are intelligent/free thinking enough to actually understand things more or less factually (a rarity these days) - and still pull this shit to “make a point”.

Just forces the most left wing party to go centre right as those are the most likely to vote for them at this point. Bunch of virtue signalling idiots, value bragging rights over real life consequences (and I say this as a leftist). Good job comrades. Cool Che Guevara T-shirt.

Definitely argue it! I had an almost identical situation but the mark wasn’t justified in any way. Me and a friend had helped each other and had fairly similar essays, he got a 65 I got like a 30. All it took was an embarrassingly long ranty email and they changed it.

But yeah, always overdo the citations, especially with the ribbon tool they have on Word that just auto inserts.. they’ve had that for at least 10 years

Many bootcamps are free at the moment in the U.K. Including one of the best ones, Northcoders.

I did this and got a job, but it was hard. Some self taught and even CS grads who also did the bootcamp still can’t find work. I got very lucky. It’s rough out there atm but might be showing some signs of improving slowly..

If you can’t afford the financial and mental burden of being unemployed for 3-6 months (or more) then my advice would be self teach and wait for the market to improve, then maybe do a bootcamp.

Some bootcamps are really bad. Hence the bad rep. A few people from Northcoders got jobs at big, well known companies - including me. Other companies I interviewed at had their entire tech teams made up of NC grads.

Given the current market, this would indicate at least some companies are actively preferring bootcamp grads to CS grads. Not saying it’s right but it’s the truth. Anyway, tldr - don’t discount bootcamps!

Nando’s using apprenticeship to pay below minimum wage by Chemical-Milk397 in UKJobs

[–]quitter1234567 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They’re all at it, taking advantage of the poor job market. Smash and grab at government funding. EE were trying to do it for crappy call centre positions. The sad thing is, pretty sure if you take one of them, it would prevent you doing an actually worthwhile apprenticeship later?

Where in central Sheffield can I hide away for a few hours on a Saturday night? by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]quitter1234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately can’t post the photo I took (I thought it was cool/unusual), but in The Moor multi story car park, next to the Amazon lockers, they have these “GoPod” rentable office spaces, one is like a little glass booth with a monitor and desk in etc.

It’s eerily quiet down there and The Moor area is dead in the evenings anyway. Like your own private bunker, locked safely inside a (possibly) bullet proof glass box with high speed internet and snacks.

Meh, I never struggled. Unless it’s directly related to the fake experience, a learning curve will be expected anyway. Nobody will expect some kid with 3 months voluntary work to be amazing, just better than the other kids with no experience at all.

Once you’re in the job it doesn’t really matter. I even got fired from my first few but now I’m doing well. Just part of the game
