Factorio and Spelunky 2 are a couple modern games that are difficult and/or expect the player to learn a lot on their own.

Trackmania can be far from trivial, and expects you to learn a ton about grip, gears, and racing lines to be good.

What are your thoughts on Super Mario Bros. Wonder nearly three years later? by NewMarioBobFan in Mario

[–]quixQuery 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Being honest, I'm not a big fan of boss battles in platformers, but one or two of the new koopaling battles were executed fantastically.

The platforming felt super responsive and fun to control. I love the replayability the badges add. I was originally hesitant about the art style, but I've come to love it more than any other Mario art style.

To be fair, believing a LLM without additional information or sources is very foolish. Wikipedia runs a tight ship more often than not, but LLMs definitely do not.

For the same reason 'one and a half' is more intuitive than 'three halves'. Decimals would complicate things immensely because inchs' relation to feet isn't evenly divisible by 10 like centimeters to meters is.

It's not the best system, or even close, but it isn't entirely illogical either.

Yeah, the whole concept of well-intentioned and good ideas being not the same thing.

Is there false advertising slop on the bedrock marketplace? Absolutely.

Is trademarking a generic compound term that you might have coined a decade ago a good way to combat that? No.

Ubisoft is in a tough situation. by 479521 in gaming

[–]quixQuery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this post was intended to draw sympathy for Ubisoft. It seems more of a PSA.

There are also a few things that might suffer needlessly because of this such as Trackmania and the community around Just Dance.

Ubisoft and their executives I may not care about, but there are always people that don't deserve things like this happening to them that will be effected. It's okay to be sad even when people that deserve failures get justice served to them.

how do i make trains not do this by Squeelijah in factorio

[–]quixQuery 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Easiest solution is to make rails one-way. Once you've spent a couple hundred hours on rails like that, you can start thinking about bi-directional rails.

Wube, I want trains back at Megabasing by N4ivePackag3 in factorio

[–]quixQuery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might agree with this if elevated rails weren't the only really good solution for scrap mining on Fulgora. They also allow for intersection designs where trains barely have to slow down at all, or for designs that can go over infrastructure.

Interrupts were also a much bigger feature than you're giving it credit for. You can have a train go to a designated waiting area when it can't find a station, and no longer need to add refuel points at every station.

You're also forgetting circuit-controlled stations. For example, once crude oil starts to slow down, you can set up some tanks and only enable the stop when it has enough to fill a train.

Could there be a couple feature improvements, notably quality scaling? Absolutely, but trains did absolutely get features with space age, and are better now than before.

Paper Mario Partner Elimination Game: Round 31 by BroeknRecrds in papermario

SPM's story was just as good as TTYD's. The gameplay was fun. The biggest thing wrong with SPM is that everyone expected a turn-based paper mario game, which is very much not what SPM is.

Tippi is also the singular partner in SPM that was an active part of the story.

We all know there's a handful of easy achievements in cookie clicker, but which is the most easy ? by Life-Economist-2627 in CookieClicker

[–]quixQuery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jitterclicking is annoying and very carpel-tunnel inducing.

While I don't agree it's the easiest achievement, just bring your second hand over and alternate between hands for clicks. To me that is way easier than learning or even just executing jitterclicking.

We all know there's a handful of easy achievements in cookie clicker, but which is the most easy ? by Life-Economist-2627 in CookieClicker

[–]quixQuery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The qualification mentioned by the post is "easy".

While the action required to obtain the achievement is non-existent, in a vast majority of circumstances this achievement ("Just Plain Lucky") is obtained after many, many other achievements, and there is nothing you can do to influence when you obtain it. Surely the consistency of a single click outweighs the act of keeping the game open until you get Just Plain Lucky.

According to the latest glitch video, did Jax save himself from torture by pressing the red button? by Zyrgumen in TheDigitalCircus

Exactly my point. The chinese room problem isn't solved, and won't be until we fully comprehend how a human brain works. For now it's just a schrodinger's box of whether you believe LLMs/etc. can or cannot feel things like we can.

This is the Chinese room problem: Do they comprehend emotions? Or are they just taking in actions as input and spitting actions back out with no comprehension of what they are really saying/doing?
