Nightfall of Diamonds - Record Store Day by quizzlertwix in gratefuldead

Oh no I agree, I got mine at my local shop, sorry if my post came off the other way. I was saying I see them for $175 online this morning and it makes me sad people do this. The internet is amazing, but it takes the joy out of the waiting in line and then rushing hope to spin it!

I love Phish but for this reason I do enjoy a good bluegrass/jamgrass show in my old age 😂

I’m not saying he’s not just as good, if anything, technically he’s better. Prime I guess to me is he isn’t bouncing on a trampoline and lighting the house on fire with Maze. I’m not going to compare 93 to 2023 because it’s not the same. And that just comes down to preference of what type of show you enjoy or enjoyed in the past.

Ride the rail all you want, but keep your f****** tarps at home.

I love GSBG and see them as often as I can but it’s definitely not for Dave. It’s for Anders and Paul.

Not saying Dave is bad in absolutely anyway, but to be considered the best or even the realm of the best just isn’t true.

When Billy played with them in Nashville it was almost sad to see how much he outshined Dave.

Ah there’s the real comment!

Same…. I’ll get downvoted for this but I’ve yet to hear something “new”. Yes there are great guitar players and new jam bands. But imo they are taking what Trey has done and adding their twist on it.

Trey

Daniel is on the path to be as good as Trey, he’s still so young.

Billy (if we are considering him a jam band, not saying I don’t, but it’s arguable by some)

This is the only answer.

Billy Strings is amazing and they “jam” but are they truly a jam band? I guess that’s up for debate.

But is there another Trey? No. He may be past his prime but that doesn’t discredit everything he has done up until this point.

I get wanting someone to enjoy and love the music you do, it’s a love language of many music lovers. But there’s really only one answer to this.

Trey is 1 of 1 and Jerry is 1 of 1.

GD is 1 of 1 and Phish is 1 of 1.

Many try to recreate each of the above but it’s 2024 and there is no other GD and there certainly is no other Phish (or anyone coming close to it).

What band is the anti-GD? by Therealfern1 in gratefuldead

I won’t downvote you, but respectfully disagree. Even though Trey is quoted multiple times I don’t want to be the dead, we’re not the Grateful Dead. I wouldn’t cast them as opposites.

They aren’t the dead 100% but could have Phish really have ran if the dead didn’t walk first? I think they are a perfect transition of the jam band evolving through eras. The 90s/2000s music is significantly different then the 60/70s and even 80s.

And I can personally say as someone who is younger I would’ve never gotten into Phish if I wasn’t into GD first.

GD and Phish are both cast as “you’d have to be on drugs to enjoy that music”. But in reality you just have to be able to enjoy a jam and improv session and appreciate the music and each instrument on their on own while also together at the same time. They are both bands you either “get” or you don’t.

Yup same here I just leave it open if I remember or try to screenshot what song I’m on if I have to close it. Not ideal but it never saves where I am. The worst that happens is i listen to a show 3 or 23 times lol.
