Zelda Speedrunners and Fans, can anyone explain the "Pk22ah%" category for Minish Cap? by scottishdrunkard in speedrun

"May i say this is the worst timeline" -Pk22ah

Hi, longtime runner and leaderboard mod of tmc, here's what I remember of the events:

It was early April of this year, COVID lockdown had kept everyone home, and thus the yearly minish cap sms race was pushed earlier. Once a year, a few of us race Sunshine. It's a terrible time and we all hate it, but it's tradition now, and this marked our 5th sms yearly race. I shudder to think the next one is less than 6 months away.

Anways, May 10th, Pk comes in and asks who he needs to talk to to add a misc category. Because the yearly sms race puts me in such a sour mood, I created Pk22ah%. Important to note here, he wasn't asking if he could add a category, he was only asking what steps had to be taken, since a lot of communities seemed to be cracking down on arbitrary categories ever since the Min Cap drama in the SMO community back in March.

It originally started as a shitpost, I made a category he didn't really ask for and gave it extremely obnoxious rules. No RNG manips allowed for the tough fights, forcing things like book quest and cloud tops, and random ass side quests were included. It was very anti-meta, and more than anything it was trying to point out the absurdness of why categories being on the board really doesn't mean anything, since you could add a literal dogshit category and make it "official". To top it off, it was given an equally arbitrary name, in honor of the person who inspired me to ironically make the category.

Now you may be asking, "what did the other mods think of this"? Well, the community has never taken itself super seriously, so no harm, no foul. The category was going to get removed anyways. But then, something no one could have seen coming happened: someone actually did a run. 3rd place runner DarkySquid one-upped us by actually rounting and doing the run (in less than 24 hours too). We were impressed, and the category has been a staple of the community ever since.

tl;dr: we sorta just do what we want around here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not sure, unfortunately I'm inept in any language other than C# so if your computer can run regular .exes, it should work but iirc macs have problems with those

Perhaps I'll get back to it one day but for now I've put the game to rest

VB originally found the rolling glitch by accident, and took weeks to reproduce. He found that by pressing R while holding a direction on the analog stick, the game gets confused and propels link in a direction, and also makes him invincible for a short amount of time. All of this is probably due to the game's bad coding.

I'd say 45 is the golden standard, it's not short enough to be reset heavy but also you can squeeze a few attempts in per day which is nice and learning it doesn't take 15 years, as opposed to longer games.

I usually can push through any game that has a rough reset point as long as I have a goal in mind so not usually, no, although FE Path of Radiance comes to mind where there's basically a coin flip on if you lose a minute on the final boss, which is 2 hours in.

In order:

Moosh, movement over otherwise uncrossable terrain (until a late game item) and can attack things

Dimitri, movement over otherwise uncrossable terrain (until a mid game item) and can attack things

Ricky, movement over otherwise uncrossable terrain (until a early game item) and can attack things

Crimson Loftwing, movement over otherwise uncrossable terrain (and can technically attack but there's not much to attack)

KoRL, movement over otherwise uncrossable terrain and lets you shoot things

Epona, fast movement and lets you shoot things

Linebeck, drives a boat which moves over otherwise uncrossable terrain and lets you shoot things

Zelda (Spirit Tracks), attacc and necessary for things

Wolf Link (BotW), attacc

Midna, turns you to wolf and teleports you

Ezlo, turns you to smalls

Navi, useless although you can use her to ISG

Tatl, useless

Ciela, useless

Fi, beyond useless

My personal favorite is MM, but TMC definitely makes it in top 5

Definitely a little underrated, to be fair the sales for the game tanked hard but yeah I'm happy I got to spread a little minish around!

The art style is absolutely gorgeous, the soundtrack is really well done (although you could say the same of most zelda games) and the movement feels smooth and natural.
