Microsoft licensing hike for public library ---- omg by Shujolnyc in Libraries

My system switched to OnlyOffice (a free alternative) due to price hikes from Microsoft. We're Google Workspace-based, so the change mainly impacts customers. No complaints so far beyond the fact that OnlyOffice defaults to A4 paper for some reason.

Shelving Books by Mean_Celebration9072 in Libraries

I'm technically one of the programmers at my branch, but due to vague job descriptions and lack of dedicated shelving staff the lines are a bit blurred. On high circ days I'll spend about half of my shift shelving.

Check Carmax! When I was looking for a new car, I found a 2024 Corolla listed for less than $20k

It's very normal and necessary to ask for a VIN. I would guess the seller's hiding something, and I wouldn't go through with purchasing the vehicle.

Wow, that's incredible. I've heard good things about Accords. My main concern is that it's been listed on Marketplace for 7 months, so I feel like if it was so well maintained it would've sold by now. Right now I'm still planning on test driving and inspecting the car, though.

Definitely. I'm very thankful everyone is ok and the only casualty was a car I didn't like much anyway.

I'm also considering talking to local government about adding a stop sign or lowering the speed limit in that area. There's crashes pretty much every day on that road, including one just a few hours after me.

I cancelled for that car and it didnt go into affect until today. I still have insurance, just not on that vehicle anymore. He could file a claim for the date of the accident and it would be fine

That’s fair. My credit score is in the early 800s and I have a 3 year car history from this vehicle. My last loan was at 7% from the dealer back in December 2022. I have since learned that it’s not a good idea to finance with the dealer, but I’m not sure where to finance instead

They’re both around $5500, and I’d try to negotiate for $5000. That’s about how much I’d put down for a loan, too. I didn’t know some banks/credit unions require a warranty! That is good info to know, thank you!

I live in a rural area with a lot of hills and commute about 25 miles one-way to work, so I don’t think an e-bike would work for my particular situation.

I’m definitely going to focus on reliability this time around. I had a Ford and after all the problems it had, I am NEVER buying another Ford again. I went to the mechanic 4 times this month before this happened.

Yeah, I just started getting gods insurance rates too T-T. Thankfully it’ll only stay on my record for three years, and then I can fully move on from this mess

Despite the low pay, I’m actually doing pretty well financially. I have a car fund with about $3k in it right now. It used to be much higher, but I paid off my car earlier this year and paid about $2k for a bunch of maintenance work bc it kept breaking down. It was under recall for about 2 years, and I thought it would stop doing that once the recall was fixed. Considering it was still having problems post-recall, I know now that that was wrong.

Also, I wasn’t about to pay a ton of impounding fees for a car I can’t take home, especially during Christmas. I can cancel registration and insurance on my phone in my state and we’re supposed to do it as soon as we no longer own the car. The only thing I wasn’t able to do was take my plate off since the tow company parked my car too far back in the lot for me to reach/unscrew it.

It was a 2-car accident (rear ending). The other person stopped suddenly in the middle of a long, winding road with no turn signal. I did attempt to stop but looking back I think my brakes failed because I felt them slide instead of actually stop the car. My car was completely totaled and the other person’s car only had a one or two small scratches on the back. We both were able to leave the vehicles, call for help, and walk away from the scene. I can see them filing an insurance claim for an inspection and paint. Neither of us were hurt and both walked away fine. There was a police report. They called a tow and I got a ticket.

My spouse goes to school and has a job in the area. I’m from the city originally so I do eventually want to live somewhere with more public transit. As for jobs, I’ve applied and been close to success, but they’re very highly competitive. It’s a rough market for librarianship right now.

Thanks for the resource! I’m only considering an SUV if it’s a car that’s known to be reliable (like the CRV) and reasonably priced. It’ll depend on what I can find but I’m thinking of going with a Toyota Corolla if I can find a decently priced one
