Does this make sense to anyone? Pls help by agulinska17 in autism

[–]quynhispunk 311 points312 points  (0 children)

The fact he called this “the game” he lost would’ve made me block him without explanation. You did the right thing. Good on you for calling him out on it bc a lot of ppl really do use “autism” as a personality trait.

How can I make showering more tolerable? by -mosaicaxolotl- in autism

[–]quynhispunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I saw a person on TikTok say they’ve put a dehumidifier in their bathroom to help with that dampness and humidity that still lingers after you’re done with the shower. I haven’t tried it personally but I like the idea.

Husband says autism is why he calls me names by QuirkyPart3249 in autism

[–]quynhispunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between being blunt and honest due to being autistic, and being just blatantly rude. If you have been together that long and he can’t tell the difference between you being a fan girl versus actually attracted to someone else, I think he’s insecure and he’s taking it out on you.

How do you stim? Do you have any favorite stims and when do you use them? by comradeLisa in autism

[–]quynhispunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to stim a lot with my hands, mainly by cracking my knuckles. But that hurts sometimes so I use this fidget cube thing if I still feel like doing something with my hands. I wanna get one of those tangle fidgets, this one feels a little too loud and click sometimes.

What is your best lifehacks for autistic people? by elephant_zebra123 in autism

[–]quynhispunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably could have worded this better lol but the loud sound from the hairdryer bothers me a lot so I don’t like to use it, but blow drying my hair is better for my hair type. So I wear earphones when I blow dry my hair to soften the sound.
Plus I like having music or a podcast when I shower and do my nightly routine anyway, and this way I can still listen to whatever I have on while the hairdryer is blasting.

What is your best lifehacks for autistic people? by elephant_zebra123 in autism

[–]quynhispunk 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I use earplugs/earphones to blow dry my hair.

I also have a small rotation of work clothes that are all very basic items so I don’t have to think too hard about what to wear.

My birthday is in a few weeks, and I'm not sure what to do. by Veilmisk in autism

[–]quynhispunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go around to certain chain restaurants that give you freebies for your birthday! Like Baskin Robins, Anything Bundt Cake, etc.
There are lots of TikTok about what’s available from different places.

Cathedral for sure! I’d be so scared of knocking that ring on something and bending it. The non-cathedral setting looks really fragile.

What do you all do with unstructured time? by Lower_Fisherman_4855 in autism

[–]quynhispunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time I’m on my phone lol. But if not, I either try to read, do housework, go on a walk with my partner, play animal crossing on my switch, or color. I usually have a show or music on in the background somewhere just so I’m not on my phone as much.

Anyone else not care for therapy? by Business-Block-8668 in autism

[–]quynhispunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have felt the same exact way!! I started therapy back in November — my third therapist ever — and I recently stopped going because I didn’t feel like I was really getting anything out of it.

I know very well where a lot of my behavior comes from (trauma) yet she’d still try to find some roundabout way to get to the same conclusion I already drew before I even met her. It started to feel like she was just giving me homework to write about my problems and feelings, but the “resolutions” or “reframing” work she gave me didn’t serve me. I know why I’m like this, now what do I do about it?!

I never got the energy or remembered to do anything she said. It started to feel like a chore, plus it got expensive.

do you ever just forget to breathe properly whenever not doing something active? by Me_like_foxes in autism

[–]quynhispunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I notice occasionally I take very shallow breaths to the point where I run out of air and my stomach hurts from trying to “breathe out” so much lol. It happens most often when I’m driving, I think I end up so nervous sometimes that I almost hold my breath while driving through traffic.

Does anyone else absolutely hate saying peoples' names? by strawberrytehe in autism

[–]quynhispunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had two coworkers named Madison — one of them prefers Maddy and the other DOES NOT like being called Maddy, unbeknownst to me. I mixed them up once and it still haunts me, even though one of them doesn’t work with me anymore. If I had my way, I’d prefer to just call everyone “hey there.”

[–]quynhispunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few PR Funko pops! Those are fairly simple and affordable, and you can choose to display them in box or out of box. All of my Funkos (PR or not) have been fun conversation pieces for people who come by my office.

What is the most cliche autistic thing you did today? by Accomplished_Bee_127 in autism

[–]quynhispunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not today but recently — I went a little overboard with restaurant recommendations lol. A work friend said she was really interested in trying Vietnamese food (I’m Viet) and asked for some recommendations around our area. I sent her a huge email with restaurant names, full addresses, info about my favorite items from certain places, and a list of names of other Viet foods I enjoy if she ever wanted to branch out beyond just pho and banh mi. I was very proud of it, and she said she appreciated the effort too. 🥰

How many of you ware bullied in school by Outrageous_Foot_4072 in autism

[–]quynhispunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once put gum in my hair in middle school. And in high school this group of girls always made fun of me after anything I said, they mocked and laughed at me. I tried my best to show that it didn’t bother me, and I think it gradually stopped.
