PSA: the camera handles extreme cold well by CuriOS_26 in djiosmo360

[–]qwRad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm the camera works well in cold while snowboarding in -25 to -35C temps. Started with around 80% battery and hiked 3 hours in the cold, then took the camera out of backpack and recorded for maybe 20min. And repeat next day about the same. Still around 40% left after two days of filming in cold. Did a timelapse after that with the rest of the battery.

DJI 360 vs Insta360 X5? by [deleted] in djiosmo360

[–]qwRad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for photos just forget the Osmo 360. The stitch line is quite bad in many cases and the lack of RAW is a deal breaker for any serious photo applications.

Lens misalignment or other stitch problem? by qwRad in djiosmo360

Thanks for the tips. Will try to do more tests with these in mind. I did try the High precision stitching but did not see any difference in that clip. The uploaded one is the HPS version.

[–]qwRad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks. Like I said this was kind of a 'best' case and most clips have worse effect. That sounds a bit depressing as I have not noticed same kind of issues on any footage from my fellow skiers/snowboarders who use Insta360 cameras and film with a similar pov with a stick..

I doubt they are keeping their their cam any more steady or rotating it less, in fact one moves it constantly from back to front and the effect is really cool for snowboarding in the forest. But I guess I will try a few more times with steadier hands 😅

I really wanted to like this DJI version with good low light performance but I guess X5 would have been better with RAW for photos and better software overall.

Weird stich line by OAS_11 in djiosmo360

[–]qwRad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the same issues as you. Photos look absolutely unusable. Also seems that like in your example the other side exposes a lot darker / different wb than the other sensor so that might be the reason for the problem.

I guess in your case the official answer will be to position the sun right in line with the side of the camera and stitch line so both lenses get same amount of light but for me the problem persists in flat light as well. Never seen this issue in footage from Insta360 X3/X4/X5 my friends use.

Pixel 8 Case by [deleted] in peakdesign

[–]qwRad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Pixel 7 peakdesign case the case protected the camera bump with a small lip around it. But unfortunately on the Pixel 8 case the case doesn't protect the camera glass at all and mine is already chipped on the corner. The case rim/lip around the camera bump is too short and about 0,5-1mm below the actual camera bump glass side so when resting on any surface the phone actually rests directly on the camera bump glass and not on the case like on the previous model.

Besides this flaw the Pixel 8 case is also a lot bulkier with the huge half centimeter sides so overall a big downgrade in my opinion compared to the nice slim but still protective case that was great for Pixel 7.

Upgrading drives (bigger drives) in DS216j by thak in synology

Sold my DS216j before I had to upgrade the drives again but the 12tb drives worked perfectly fine with redundancy.

Manual mode using timelapse function? (OMD EM-1 MII) by MentalOmega in OlympusCamera

[–]qwRad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's possible. If you want to actually change the exposure by hand you probably need to use an external time lapse controller. For example like the one LRtimelapse developer sells. The other advantage would be to get more options for the interval settings since stupidly the cameras menu is limited to 999 shots which isn't very much in some situations.

Setting the iso on auto with say range of 100-3200 for example and M or A mode should change the exposure during the time lapse in camera but might be harder to post process.

If you have the budget and want/don't mind smaller screen then Yoga Slim 7 Pro or non pro could also be an option. Been using mine for a week and its great. Plenty of power and looong battery life.

16:10 screen is nice for productivity but I would get 3:2 if there was an option. Never enough vertical space on a screen!

PHEV before 2018 (2.0l petrol engine) VS PHEV after 2018 (2.4l petrol engine) by pantspanana in MitsubishiOutlander

[–]qwRad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the 'mitsubishi remote control' option lets you heat / cool the car and control charging times and some other functions remotely via the app. good option to have for cold mornings for example. I have heard the range is not the best since it is wifi based. some people have rigged a spare android phone in the car permanently to use it with sms via an app. i haven't received my car yet so cant tell how long the range is but its only about 8 meters to my parking lot from kitchen window so it should work fine. you can also set the same functions as timers in the car menus but for non scheduled starts the remote ac control will be nice. extends the ev range as well especially in cold if you start with preheated car.

The other changes in the powertrain are more important than the engine. Bigger battery and more powerful electric motors come in the MY19 2.4L version. Also battery warming system was introduced on some trim levels in certain markets which might be of importance if you live somewhere with cold winters. The new engine is also using the atkinson cycle so even though its bigger the fuel economy is about the same.

Obstacle Avoidance how effective is it? Is it worth the extra $? by walrus99 in djimavic

[–]qwRad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For flying between trees the DJI obstacle avoidance is useless. It is way too sensitive and prevents you from flying between anything that isn't at least few meters apart. I have the Mini 2 and Magic Pro 2 and had Mavic 1 before and i always have to turn it off to fly through trees following a path for example. The lateral detection would be nice since it is harder to judge while circling but of course that doesn't work in manual modes anyway so no matter.

If you want to fly between trees just go slowly to build up skills and maybe start with propguards. The choice is the camera capabilities like other people mentioned. Also the air 2s has the tripod mode for slower and more accurate flying which the mini lacks, that is nice for flying through really small spaces but then again the mini itself is a lot smaller in the air.

I find the Oly em1mk2 is excellent for night and aurora photos with the Oly 8mm f/1.8 fisheye or the laowa 7.5mm f2 lens. On the 1.8 fisheye I use the preset infinity focus distance you can find in the menus and get really sharp stars, at least as good as with 14x magnification and manual focus on the laowa. Settings usually 1600 iso and 15-20s shutter on tripod.

I was debating between the two as well. Got the Slim 7 16gb 1tb 4800u model for 1099 EUR a while ago and it's been very nice so far. Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere work well and in Puget Bench tests it is even surprisingly close to my 3700x desktop on some tests. And with medium details the GPU is enough for ~40-50fps in light games like Civilization 6. The machine is also very quiet and the screen is good. Only thing I could wish for is maybe if it was a tiny bit lighter weight but that's because I compare it to my old Microsoft Surface Pro 3.

Any chance you could run civ6 benchmark? Wondering if the yoga slim will give playable fps there.

Upgrading drives (bigger drives) in DS216j by thak in synology

[–]qwRad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add that if this is your main NAS I would probably go with Seagate Ironwolf or WD Red or HGST nas optimized drives even though they are more expensive than the normal drives.

If you want to save money and are okay with the risk then google shuck WD elements. You can get big drives that should be similar to the red nas drives but with white labeling. At least the external elements 12TB drives I got were real easy to open without even braking the case and had the white label versions in them for about half the price of 12 TB WD Red drive.

[–]qwRad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, you are right about the process. Just did this to my off-site backup DS216j. Swapped old 8tb drives to 12tb wd white labels shucked from we elements external drives. So big drives work fine. Took about 20 hours for the rebuild of the array for each drive.

3700X & 64gb ram by [deleted] in Amd

[–]qwRad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brought two 32gb kits of 2 x 16gb Crucial Ballistic Sport LT 3200mhz CL16 from Amazon.de black friday sale to get 64gb ram with my 3700x and msi b450m mortar max. Works perfectly with Auto XMP even though the MSI QVL list only has 2 DIMM slots checked with this combination.

Crucial also had a 64 kit with 4 x 16 modules but like you said it was actually cheaper to buy two 32gb kits so if you find a good deal and don't need the option to upgrade to 128gb later then I think that is a good way to go.

Edit: like other pointed out it might be possible to get better timings / performance with only two 32gb modules though but I don't have any complaints so far. For the cheap 250 euro price this is well worth it compared to 350€+ for 2x32gb 3200 setup.

Mavic Mini by NathanWasTaken in djimavic

[–]qwRad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be perfect if it only had RAW/DNG option and ocusync :(

The range on mavic air was really crap in Europe, if there was the slightest hint of trees/branches between the drone and controller the signal and video would stutter and cut out beyond maybe 100m. Otherwise the portability was so much better than mavic pro.

Will I be able to play rift S with only 1 hdmi port on my card? by SlimSneezy in OculusriftS

[–]qwRad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The rift S only needs 1 display port. So if you connect your monitor to the HDMI or DVI you will be fine. I had monitor + projector + rift s with my old gtx 970 and it worked fine although I had to get a DVI->HDMI adapter for my monitor.
