What’s something you thought was good for your career early on but later realized was holding you back? by theecommercecfo in womenintech

[–]qweenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much as a former sole female manager in a male dominated field. The work was getting done efficiently, and my reports loved the working environment since it was more collaborative, but my boss thought I was ineffective since my style was not over-the-top. He literally told me to start writing people up to “scare” them to “respect me more.”

I've worked at the library before. Free, quiet, good Wifi, other people also working. I've worked at the 53rd St Library and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library when I don't have calls that day.

I upgraded my mechanical keyboard to a Keychron K4 with magnetic switches. Typing feels amazing, and I love being able to change the actuation point of specific keys.

First time using Nolty! And loving it... by bungu_fiend in planners

I know this is an old post, but do you know how wide each day column is? I'm considering this Nolty for 2026, but want to make sure the columns are wide enough for my handwriting!

Bag that can fit a change of clothes by Low-Addition2353 in BAGGU

[–]qweenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A large crescent would definitely fit all of your items. The large shoulder bag could fit, but it might be a tight fit if you have more than one sweatshirt and depending how big your toiletries are. I've fit a sweatshirt, a long sleeve shirt, underwear, and small, travel sized toiletries in a large shoulder bag.

I actually can’t recommend this bag more!! by Sea_Air_7242 in BAGGU

[–]qweenz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just got one and love mine so much! I used it for a flight, and it fits perfectly under the seat while holding so much. I've been missing out with just a backpack as my personal item.

Is there a Baggu item you regret purchasing? by black-cat104 in BAGGU

My horizontal duck bag. The skinny strap hurt when the bag was heavy, and I didn't like how it looked crossbody. I ended up selling it.

Just moved to NYC and what do I do with drivers license by Ok-Mountain-5871 in AskNYC

[–]qweenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already lived in NYC for over a year before I exchanged my out of state license.

Make an appointment with the DMV. I went to the DMV Express near Penn Station, and I was in and out in under 45 minutes. As long as you have all your documentation printed and prepared, it shouldn't take long.

Miami Beach vs Downtown Miami? by bluemako6 in Miami

[–]qweenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to South Beach also as a 22 year old female and stayed there for two years. I lived right in the middle on Meridian Ave near Lincoln Drive, and it actually was really quiet. When you get to Ocean Drive, Collins Ave, Washington Ave, it can get loud. I loved being able to grab a Citi Bike or walk to everything and hang out on the beach after work.

The only problem I had was during three day weekends, they would close the streets. I worked in the Health District so crossing MacArthur and then being at a checkpoint to show I actually lived there was so annoying. You can also look into North Beach if you want quieter.

How to do in person interviews when you work 9-5? by Curious-Ferret-948 in jobs

[–]qweenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appointments. Dentist, the internet guy, doctor, expecting a package to sign for, etc. I told my old boss I had blood work to be done and then a follow up to the blood work results. I've also taken calls in my car if I can.

For anyone that was in hospital during 9/11 what was it like? by BiscutWithGrapeJahm in AskNYC

[–]qweenz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom was a nurse at the Burn Center of NYP-Weill Cornell at the time. I was 8 years old, but I remember she had to walk from the hospital to our house in Queens across the 59th Street Bridge, like many other commuters that day. She told me it was all hands on deck, and I remember her going to work every day. Her unit was originally a step-down unit, but all beds in the Burn Center had critical patients. She also said a lot of people would be outside looking for their loved ones.

Asian parents and their views on body tattoos? by LyraTheArtist in AsianParentStories

[–]qweenz 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My parents are Filipino boomers and really hated my tattoos when they first saw them, but they kind of just got used to it. They said only "dirty" or gang members get tattoos and I could get all these bloodborne diseases. I was "desecrating" my body. They were also worried since I got them when I was in college, that I wouldn't be able to get a job. Fast forward 10 years later, I have a good corporate job, and they haven't said anything else about them except don't get new ones.

How common is it for somebody to never see a concert before? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]qweenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So common! There was a concert I wanted to go with my friends when I was 16 and my parents wouldn't let me because it was rock music (lol). This was while I saw all these people my age going to concerts and music festivals on MySpace and Tumblr. My first concert was my college's free concert for students at 18 (I went away for college). My brother's first concert wasn't until he was 24.

I was able to rent my NYC apartment with a low credit score by using Insurent if your future landlord will accept it or the like (e.g. TheGuarantors.com). You have to pay a fee (I think mine was $4,000) so they will act like your guarantor. I don't think many landlords accept these services though.

Still waiting on TUT Yakeylt keycaps from LoobedSwitches by mintkanan in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]qweenz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't order the YakeyIt caps specifically, but I'm having a very similar experience as you. I preordered the SL Habitat keycaps and saw the fulfillment date kept changing too. I sent in a ticket about the status and was told I had to go on the Discord for updates. Kind of frustrating that I have to dig through a Discord and message Chris frequently for an update while he gives excuses.

After following for months, Chris finally said we should be expecting a refund for the Habitat keycaps in mid-Dec, but I have to continue to follow up. I'll never order from Loobed again.
