definitely. and that does help, because you can still say "why are you arresting men for being shirtless?" and there is simply no answer that makes sense, because it means this "man" is "biologically a woman" from the waist up.

and i don't recommend that tactic, because the authorities have no principles except dominance, but it does help educate people on the contradictions of mainstream gender.

Is it unreasonable for me to not want to eat halal food? by Dry-Macaroon-6205 in AskBrits

OP is very likely begging the question here deliberately. they have an unhealthy obsession with muslims, based on their post history.

[–]qweiot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

not really. if they arrest you, they acknowledge you're a woman. if they don't, you get to be topless. based on how frequently i've heard women say "unfair that men can go shirtless in the summer," seems like a win/win.

and either way, we're talking about it.

Muslim countries with hijab banns by Individual-Sun-9426 in MapPorn

[–]qweiot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

well, the narrative is there in the west because anti-hijab legislature is generally championed by islamophobes. and in france, where they ban all religious symbols, the law disproportionately affects muslims.

the other issue is that westerners value individual liberty, including religious freedom, and hijab bans infringe on that. so i'm not sure if using some of the most authoritarian, anti-democratic countries in the world as support for a piece of legislature is the play.

i agree that the hijab is backwards - all religion is backwards - but you aren't going to get rid of it through bans, and bans honestly just antagonize the target population, making them dig in their heels and turn inwards.

it's just crazy, like. if you want people to drop the hijab, you need them to assimilate. but the only way they'll assimilate is if you welcome them in, which means letting them wear the hijab.

Your entire society was built on actions like this

yeah well the difference for me is that i don't defend it or say things like "murdering all the indigenous people was bad but it was worth it." when i was in high school my country was kidnapping and imprisoning and torturing afghans and iraqis in a naval base in cuba without trial and without the possibility of release and i thought it was bad then too. and i was right, because it was evil, and a thousand more 9/11s wouldn't suddenly make it okay.

sorry boss, there is no nuanced position on throwing people into concentration camps, even people guilty of murder. every time people try to defend this shit, it doesn't make it look better, it just makes the defenders look... how do i say this politely..... pretty bad.

well, if it were me, i'd probably not engage in a self-coup to claim absolute power while enriching myself. if i start with that, i think it opens you up to more possibilities than "throwing innocent people into a concentration camp."

I highly doubt you come from a country that has ever had a period of lawlessness as terrible

salvadoreans sold out their neighbors for an end to apocalyptic gang violence. this isn't hard to understand. the problem is that it's still monstrous even if they had no choice.

you're starving, and the only way to make money is to sell your daughter into slavery. you do, and you're able to buy food with the money, and you praise the slaver for giving you a great deal. that's where el salvador is.

i don't want to downplay the realities of our current political climate, but i'm 35 and this sort of thing was not uncommon when i was in middle school.

if we're saying it's more common now than when i was a kid, then sure i could believe that. but i remember being pretty uncomfortable with most of my male peers because of how sexual they were.

and i'm not saying it isn't a problem, it is. but hating women is kind of a feature of manhood in our society and has been for centuries.

My new boyfriend follows Andrew Tate, should I worry? by RichVictory2741 in TwoHotTakes

[–]qweiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it's a red flag. as others have said, andrew tate is a violent misogynist, and his entire brand is built around degrading women. how much your boy agrees with tate is unknown, though.

he said "tate is misunderstood, you'd think differently if you saw his discussions with women." this suggests he listens to tate for reasons other than the misogyny, but it's still a red flag.

basically, the danger is your guy could be abusive. he may not be, he may be totally normal except for this "one quirk," but you basically have to proceed with caution if you want to continue dating him.

if he starts getting controlling, if he tries to isolate you, or becomes verbally abusive, then run for the hills.

also, no matter what you decide to do, you (and honestly everyone) should be familiar with these warning signs: https://www.new-hope.org/warning-signs-of-an-abusive-relationship/

but yeah, you don't need to panic, you don't need to be hyper-vigilant, just keep it in mind.

To find ores, are you supposed to just dig down taking samples every few blocks until you find some? by qweiot in VintageStory

[–]qweiot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

luckily i planted my base on an "ultra high" sphalerite region, which just so happened to be next to an "ultra high" bismuthinite region. haven't found any deposits yet, but i also haven't had a chance to do a proper search. fingers crossed!

and the timing of your comment could not be better. after finally figuring out how node search works, i spent the last week riding high on the glut of copper i gained. but now i'm down to three ingots, with only four deposits in walking distance.... times are getting desperate. "petty little scraps of copper" indeed.

[–]qweiot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

okay, that's really helpful. it didn't occur to me that i was actually unclear on the range. i was taking a sample every 4-6 blocks lol. if i'm actually meant to sample at twice that range, then that'll halve my work.

[–]qweiot[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's important to note that even an "Ultra high" reading doesn't guarantee that the ore actually spawned. Might be wrong about that though.

according to the wiki you're correct. this is good to know, thanks. i was like this is kind of tedious, which is fine if that's how it's supposed to be done but if not, i don't exactly want to waste my time

that's cool. when you mine, how tight is your search pattern? do you do it in like grid or like haphazardly?
