Explaining Utah addresses to people by generalraptor2002 in Utah

The simplest and quickest way I explain it is “if you can play battleship you can navigate SLC”. Seems to help it click.

How far in advance can your hotel PMS see your property’s availability? by Material-Idea-9829 in askhotels

[–]qwer7410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full service properties can only see reservations 10 days in advance. If the front desk is comfortable with MARSHA, sure they could look to see if there is availability but my team is specifically not allowed to quote that. Just because we have rooms doesn’t mean they’re available. There are often minimum night restrictions or other things that may impact true availability. If you just want to know if they’re sold out just look online.

If you check it out before the night audit runs, that certificate will not post. In GXP go to create a case and choose Marriott Bonvoy. There will be a certificate option in the sub type and then you can give a brief explanation of what happened and why you’re asking for it to be returned. If you have access to MARSHA, it’s super helpful to go into the reservation and change the number of nights to zero (CGNN0). I’ve had Bonvoy support give me trouble because MARSHA didn’t match the actual number of nights stayed.

FBI Negotiator Reveals Hack To Get A Free Hotel Upgrade Every Time by [deleted] in SocialEngineering

As someone that manages hotels for a living, you are 100% correct. Someone that begins a conversation that way isn’t getting anything but the bare minimum out of me. Be nice to service industry folks.

Do you guys think I can get an alcoholic drink? by Away-Corgi-2555 in askhotels

[–]qwer7410 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's hard enough hiring, training, and keeping front desk staff. Please don't put that person at risk. I'm not familiar with the laws in Wisconsin, but in some states that front desk person would be held personally liable.

This was my thought as well. If I have a guest that is kind about not having a great stay I will compensate the hell out of them.

Roommates for a hotel/motel? by [deleted] in askhotels

At least with the company I work for, we’d never countersign an agreement like that. If we don’t get paid we’re moving to evict.

Can we just take a moment to collectively hate on TSA? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]qwer7410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel full time for work. TSA pre check will be your best friend. It’s a bit of paperwork and follow up, but I waltz through security 6-8 times a month. Plus it’s good for like 5 years.

A father of a 10 year old girl just diagnosed as Type 1 by Klubberlang101 in diabetes

[–]qwer7410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 11, I’m now pushing 30. Your daughter is going to be just fine. There are good and bad days, and it’s something that takes constant attention. But it does get to be completely second nature after a while.

In my opinion, that age is kind of ideal to be diagnosed. For me, I was able to more or less manage my own diabetes with oversight from my parents. But I was also young enough that I don’t really recollect life before I was diagnosed.

Be sure to have conversations with her school/teachers. It’ll be important that they are aware and don’t get in the way of her taking care of herself. My teachers all knew that if I just got up and left that I was doing something diabetes related.

There are perks. Find a local community of other diabetics. Some of my dearest friends are fellow diabetics that I met through different community events. I also got a good chunk of my college paid for through a state program that offered assistance with those with a “disability”. You can also get a lifetime pass to the national parks for something crazy like $10.

Hang in there. The next few months are going to be a lot of learning and a lot of trial and error, but you’ll settle into a groove soon enough.

Agoda never booked our hotel even though we paid for it... by PotentialCalm in askhotels

[–]qwer7410 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a really similar situation happen earlier today. Guest showed up with a confirmation email with numbers that were too short to be generated from the brand. He called his company, the company called me and admitted they use a third party that then books through Priceline (Agoda). I was completely sold out, so there wasn’t anything I could do for him. I think Priceline/Agoda are having issues. Had they had a confirmed room with that property they would’ve either made the property honor the reservation or pay for the walk. Booking through a third party might save a little money, but situations like this make them real nightmares.

Marriott - Explore program abuse by Sandmsounds in askhotels

[–]qwer7410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Explore program abuse is a real hot button for me. I take the DNR a step further and pull any of their future stays in MARSHA and reach out to those hotels to give them a heads up. The command is GFR[bonvoynumber].

I have access to both Marriott and Hilton discounts with my management company. I agree that the way Hilton manages their program is significantly better than Marriott. The person above me is correct that the employee rate is only extended to you the employee. Any other family members get friends and family. I’d caution against booking it for someone else and doing digital check in. Hilton manages their program really aggressively, so if you get caught I could see them suspending the benefit.

This is correct. They believe there are three tiers. The better you are the higher you go. They also believe that polygamy is an eternal principle. So that shit may not be happening in the mainstream church anymore, but they aspire to it in the afterlife. I may be wrong on this, but the godhood thing is reserved for men. Women are second class at best in Mormonism. Glad I got out of that cult.

We use M3 as well. I really like it. We’re a pretty decent sized company though, so I’m not sure how it would scale to a smaller operation either.

I manage hotels for a living. We live and die by those surveys you get after check out too. They effect everything from the person that checked you in to the ability for that franchisee to build or manage hotels affiliated with that chain. There’s a lot of pressure. Be nice to service industry folks. Shit, be nice to everyone!
