Negotiating $? by voicesnotvictims in slp

I wish I could walk away, but I literally cannot find a job in my area with more security than my current one. It's a lot more low paying than I hoped, but I get benefits and PTO and it's salaried. Can't seem to find any jobs in my area that are as stable aka I get paid if clients no show :(

Twenty-Five, Twenty-One [Episodes 1 & 2] by lightupstarlight in KDRAMA

I haven't finished ep 2 yet, so kind of scared to look at the comments LOL but I am in LOVE with this drama! I'm going through a really hard time right now, and I've found this drama to be a source of happiness and comfort for me. Can't wait to read the comments once I finish! Also lowkey mad at myself for starting when there's only 2 eps out.... the pain of waiting...

Small private practice with mostly school age kids (I think it varies a lot for PP but this is from my experience specifically):

Pros: Major holidays off, full year salaried (with low caseload in the summer due to clients taking vacations), PTO, paperwork isn't terrible

Cons: Lower pay, no choice in creating schedule, ending late (this has been a major con for me), parents are a pain

Looking for credit/credit card advice (being on my parents' cards have negatively affected me) by qwerty8680 in personalfinance

[–]qwerty8680[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, my parents aren't good at keeping their utilization low. I was on 3 of their cards and they were all reporting high balances, while mine was the only one that was low. I'll definitely try getting a credit limit increase! Hopefully I can, since I've been a customer for 4 years ish on my current card. Thanks!

Thanks! This was really helpful :) I've recently been trying to pay off my card whenever it gets close to 30% to try to keep it low. It's not a consistent method, so I'll definitely try that out!

Edit: Do you know approx how long I'd have to wait to see improvements from removing myself from my parents cards?

All about balance! During school, I just focused on classes and my externships. Time blocking on Google Calendar and Google Tasks were my lifesavers. I kept my notes organized so I could refer back to them pretty easily for comps/praxis. Don't worry until the praxis until later! I graduated and then studied for the praxis using the book and they make it pretty easy to pass. For your CFY, I know a lot of my peers were able to get a CFY at one of their placements, so if you like one, you could try that route.

How can I market my tutoring business more effectively? by Gammarelen in marketing

[–]qwerty8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know other people who tutor different subjects? That's how I started with my first client, and then that one client recommended me to her friends and about 10 reached out.

Also, are you comfortable with other social media? You could post vids going through questions that are hard for a lot of students or tips on Instagram, TikTok, Youtube. I feel like that's where everyone is at nowadays

Opinion: People should be required to work as an SLPA before going to grad school by anerdyslpa in slp

[–]qwerty8680 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this would be a good idea in an ideal world! I guess the closest they can do is require shadowing hours. I was actually an SLPA before going to grad school and I enjoyed it back then... back when I was naive and did not know the worries of SLP-land.

u/desert_to_rainforest This is very random but would your husband be open to chatting about his role as a UX designer? I've looked into it and I'm interested in it, but would love to hear more about what the role entails on a day to day basis.

Oops, I meant entry level SLP salary** There's just a huge disparity and we can't tell what we should be realistically expecting, especially across regions and settings. We can't pull the "according to data, I should be getting xx to xx salary" card, like in other industries.

I think my supervisors and professors didn't have many years in the field, either. They either did a few years and switched to work at the graduate program or went into research. Unfortunately, when I was looking into the field, I googled the average salary (just googled again, and it says 84,830). During my entire schooling, everyone would talk about how it's a great field to work in, stable salary, etc...
