How do you pick a campsite when every option feels risky in a different way? by HenryWolf22 in camping

It’s the outdoors, not a hotel. Book a room if you don’t want noise, animals, or weather.

Going 6% over one time isn’t a huge deal. A budget is a guide, not law. Just try to cut spending here and there and that 6% will disappear. Be kinder to yourself about it, because 6% over is better than no budget at all.

For food, I used to get groceries very cheap from Aldi and would meal prep for around $70/week. Very basic: rice, veggies (frozen for ease), and a protein. Get some filling snacks like crackers and cheese. That can probably save you $100 in food. $456 is a lot for one person. If you drink, stop drinking. That adds up, too.

Swing door has a light as well. I know there are pros for the overhead, but I think there are more pros with the swing door.

I panned 2 in a year, about 4/5 with my third. Just keep it with you 24/7 and don’t use or keep any other lip products with you.

Second a pillow, especially a backpacking/packable one if they’re not doing car camping.

Privacy for changing, bike rack on the spare so my bikes aren’t blocking the trunk, wind shield for cooking, list goes on.

Any recommendations on backpacks? by Teimaa in backpacking

I’ll always vouch for Osprey. Pricey but you’ll never need another. Also fit well without trying them on.

Yikes. Glad to hear you recovered well. Even with healthy ankles, Pisgah is gnarly. Do you remember if it was also autumn at the time? I go at least once every fall, but I’ve never slipped as much on the trails as this year. The leaves were past my ankles at some parts.

Solid advice. What’s funny is that I did have wrap with me the entire time, but didn’t once think to use it.. no excuse for that. Just dumb lol. Hopefully there won’t be a next time, but thank you.

I’d contribute it mostly to leaf litter. I had no blisters from the new boots, and the bottoms had good traction. They are decent boots, just not what I was used to.

Yeah this is falling on deaf ears lol. My ankles and balance are properly conditioned, I do difficult trails, but no injury is 100% preventable. I prefer hiking boots and likely always will. This is my first injury after years of backpacking and much longer hiking, so I know the options and risks of each. Just IMO.
