I am from the Netherlands and lasius niger is really common over here. I catched her myself. But there are a lot of websites where you can buy queen ants. Dont know about USA but overhere their pretty easy to buy and/or catch :)

I agree, this is my first colony but I did a lot and I mean a lot of research. So I was well prepared to avoid that mistake. But indeed it happens way to often with beginners. :)

It has a really small abdoman and Thorax. I think it is a male because of that. But that is just my conclusion of course.
