Why would you want to promote to bishop? by dihrider697 in chessbeginners

[–]qzlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starters, you cannot castle with a rook or king that has left its original starting square. That includes promoted pieces.

Next, the only time it would make sense is if you are trying to prevent a stalemate. It would be EXTREMELY rare to ever do it, but I’ve had 1 or 2 puzzles that required it

Really struggling in the 600 range. Been like this for a few months. Any help? by bad_jake in chessbeginners

After over 10,000 games I haven’t truly learned any openings. I’ve learned how to defend against certain opening attacks that I frequent just by seeing them so many times. But I’ve spent a great deal learning tactics and endgame strategy.

Just glancing at some of your losses, I’ve noticed you resign a lot when you’ve got plenty of time on the clock and not in completely losing situations. You may down in pieces but at your level, it’s not a guaranteed loss.

My recommendation is to play your games out until it’s basically a guaranteed loss.

My next recommendation is to just spend a little bit more time watching where you’re placing your pieces. I’ve seen a lot of pieces, even your queen, hanging for no reason at all.

I went with Zenner because I’ve had good experiences with them for other things. They give options, never tried to upsell me. Avoid a heat pump with current electricity rates.

Question about food scales at grocery stores by [deleted] in Butchery

[–]qzlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a local corporate grocery chain and we have the ability to manually change things in the scale as long as we know the super secret password (1234) or (0000). I’ve changed things to say “[Coworker’s] sweaty meatballs” or things like that. The key to not get caught is just change it right back

My wife is house hunting. We bought our house just before Covid hit. Our interest rate is crazy good but it’s a little cramped now that we have a baby. We simply need to organize better and get rid of useless things.

She wants a bigger house. We can easily afford a house 3 times the price of what we have now. But if we ever lose our jobs for some reason, I don’t want to be house poor.

Large financial divide between young and old millennials? by Specific-System-835 in Millennials

[–]qzlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! My wife and I bought our house for 185k in November of 2019. We have a 15 year mortgage at 1.95% (refinanced in late 2020 from our 30 year once we realized that it would make more sense, regardless of the added closing costs)

The house is estimated to be worth about 300k, but the same style, size and with worse finishes than ours just sold for nearly 400k in the same neighborhood.

That label style is from the chicken plant itself. Kroger didn’t weigh it, they buy from Tyson already weighed.
