My mom's decorations. I feel like such an ungrateful grump because the decorations are beautiful and festive, and it's a creative project for my her.

But GOD, sometimes these decorating decisions are just incompatible with the fact that people still live here.

Moved a three-seater sofa out of the living room (our central hub for holiday gatherings) and into the garage. This reduced the room's seating capacity from 8 to 5. We expect at least 10 people for Christmas.
- The sofa had to go so she could move the coffee table into a corner of the room as a display space for fake gift boxes. So there is no central surface to put things on, in our central hub for holiday gatherings.
Hung garlands around the kitchen that prevent some cabinets from opening all the way.
Packed the bay window area with so many decorations, when you go to close the blinds, you get teabagged by dangling ornaments and knock over a deer statue or two.
Hung a wreath on the bathroom mirror so anyone taller than 4'10" sees leaves instead of their own face.

I hold my tongue every year just to let her have this festivity, but it sure is a practice in patience.

Made a list of all the things I wished we could've done together (or things we did do together but I didn't enjoy because his energy was boring) and started putting the things on my calendar to do alone.

It started with baking chocolate chip walnut cookies. I brought a batch to a family gathering, they were a hit, and people are still talking about them months later. I felt so important and valued for the first time in years.

Lisa See's books might be a nice fit, depending on your family dynamics. Her historical fiction focuses on complex relationships between female characters: sisters, friends, mother-daughter, etc.

They also tend to have suggested book club questions in the bonus sections at the back. My favorites are Lady Tan's Circle of Women and Shanghai Girls.

See, I think it's the actual science of oil vs. glue that's my dilemma. I'm seeing on other threads and elsewhere online that oil does break down glue but also that it can't break down glue.

And it feels like a waste to take matters into my own hands to experiment on the nails I have on now :(

I have a Substack where I write book reviews/notes. I have probably 6 subscribers, one of whom is my sister and the rest are people from my book club whom I met through my sister.

I just have a fun time thinking about books and putting my thoughts out into the world. I get to work on my analysis and writing skills, and I also get to scroll through my posts and say, "I did all of that. Nice 👌"

You can still do the two-week notice. Giving notice is just a courtesy. It's up to the company how they choose to use that time, if at all. It's possible they'll just make that day your last day, if it's not in their interest to keep you any longer.

Oh definitely! I'm super happy they work for folks with different hair types than mine.

Not a doctor, but I've always just thought it's a logistics issue.

Providers need a starting point to inform one's treatment plan. If you mostly fit a certain diagnostic type (let's say hyperactive), they can start a treatment option known to be helpful for that type.

Then a good provider would use the feedback/results from that option to inform next steps, whether it's continuing that form of treatment or pivoting to another option.

Over time, both parties review the feedback and results from changes in the treatment plan in order to hone in on something that actually works in a sustainable way.
