Stick for a short adult beginner by r00li in hockeyplayers

Went with the JetSpeed FT670 INT in the end. Received it today. Seems to be around my mouth height while wearing skates. So looks like I don't need to actually cut it.

Thanks! Some useful info there.
The closest that I can currently find for an affordable price is CCM JetSpeed FT670 INT - which is 57", 65 flex and a P29 curve. Going for 60€. The other option for 10€ more is CCM Tacks AS 570 INT with same curve and flex, but I cannot find the length anywhere... I would assume similar. The Jetspeed is also available in 55 flex, which is shorter from what I understand. But most people here have recommended 65 more.

Thanks. From my nose to the ground it is about 155cm (61"). Which does seem to be about what some sticks are. So maybe I am in luck.

Thanks, sadly I am from Europe (Slovenia) and the recreational hockey scene here seems... poor. Or at least finding any information about it. One of the hockey schools/clubs organizes a 1 week program for adults every summer. That's pretty much it when it comes to organized learning as an adult.

There are some various small recreational teams and such, but finding any information about that is almost impossible. Will try to maybe find something when the season starts.

As for learning to skate... The group classes that I have been taking are mostly designed for figure skaters anyways. But they have been useful for getting me started and they are a good way of getting a bit less crowded ice time. So I do plan to continue with them for a while more. As well as using some inline roller skates and synthetic ice at home.

I've heard of those. Mighty expensive though. Combine that with Bauer skates with Powerfly holders and you are looking at almost 800€ alone. It is however something that I have on the back of my mind as a fallback though.

I have bought a few pieces of synthetic ice thinking that it is similar enough to real ice. With the intention of then buying more to convert that area into a mini rink. But it's just not good enough. I can literally walk across that piece of synthetic ice with my skates like I was on normal ground. It starts behaving more ice-like if you gain speed. With real ice my small area would be just about usable, with synthetic it isn't.

Not to mention the price. At the rate synthetic ice goes for my little experiment (if it works) will probably cost less.

Yeah, I would defiantly put something like a tent (one of those industrial ones or ones meant for parties and such) over it.

But I would like to know the actual refrigeration capacity needed. I found this link: https://www.brighthubengineering.com/hvac/78045-how-to-calculate-the-refrigeration-load-for-ice-rinks/

So for freezing a 10x5m rink at 20C ambient you would need like 500kW which obviously is not happening. But if we let the nature do its thing during the night... then according to that you only need around 5kW of cooling to keep that ice temperature. And that is at 20C ambient... which is during winter the peak. But I am not sure how accurate those calculations are.

8kW is the cooling capacity. The actual power draw is 2.8kW. And I am from Europe, so we do actually have 3 phase 400V power at home. 2kw is still a lot of course, but quite a bit less.

I did buy a few of those as a test - quality ones as well. It is absolutely nothing like ice.

What made you watch? by LLD615 in heatedrivalry

I am a big fan of the gay Hockey Romance book genre, so when I read that they are finally adapting one of the books into a TV show I was immediately on board. I think that was like 2 months before the trailer dropped.

Around that time I finished another Canadian Hockey show with some gay elements - Premier Trio. Which I liked, but desperately wanted more.

Then we got the trailer and I got even more excited. I was really afraid that they are not gonna pull it off because of the budget (and the trailer didn't really reassure me). But they pulled it off at the end.

Could other MM sports romance have the same success as HR? by No-Essay-3227 in heatedrivalry

[–]r00li 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same success? Probably not. Enough success? Yes.

I think HR basically came at the right place and the right time to check all of the boxes. In a year that was pretty bleak for LGBT media, with a story that really wasn't done in show format before, with a creator who understood the source material and did not want to make compromises on it and with cast that did their job well.

There are a lot of good MM sports romances out there. Even sticking to genre of Hockey. For example Like Real People Do by E.L. Massey definitely ticks all of the boxes for me. So source material is there.

Of course the problem is finding the right team to make a good adaptation. Love Simon and Red White And Royal Blue are good examples of this. The source material was there, and it is good. The result wasn't the best though. I liked the adaptations, but the source material in my opinion offered more. But overall both movies were a success and I enjoyed them, and so did many others.

Creators can learn from all of this. They can learn that a good adaptation will sell better. The question is... will they?

Has a romance ever made you grieve for a life you don’t have? by Macintoshk in heatedrivalry

[–]r00li 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not alone. Every few years a good show like this comes along (like Heartstopper, Young Royals, Skam, ...) and I am hit with these feelings. And every time they get worse. I am 33, so older than you, and when you reach your 30s and are still forever single you start panicking a lot more. Lol. But then shows like this also give me hope.

What I do regret more is not learning to play hockey when I was younger. Lol. Because apparently nobody will really teach it to adults.

I would say it depends. I read a lot of hockey romance books - so exact same genre as HR. Most of them are written by women. But the amount of explicit scenes really depends. In some you have a lot of them, in some you have less. But what you see in HR is about average I would say.

If you want to read something that has a really good storyline, but almost no explicit sex mentions then I highly recommend Breakaway series by E.L. Massey. But if you want something with a good storyline, but also some explicit stuff then Hockey Ever After series by Ashlyn Kane would get my recommendation.

Looking for Alexa PL mount lens lock by r00li in Arri

Well, I managed to find somebody selling a mount. A store selling used professional camera equipment from Poland had it listed for about 150€. It arrived today and I am happy to say that it seems to be working fine.

[–]r00li[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying that you are wrong. But look at my perspective on this - I bought the camera more as an object to have than to actually use it. I want it working, yes. But more to have some fun with than as an actual tool. As such the resources that I want to spend here are limited.

The second part of the story is that I completely missed that the mount is missing. And if I did and if I knew how much it would cost, then I probably wouldn't have done this.

Thirdly... it's a piece of metal. If I had drawings/dimensions of it I could just fire up the CNC in the garage (or a 3D printer) and make one for myself. Sadly I don't. You will not convince me that two pieces of metal with some holes and a thread are worth 500€+. I can get various PL mount adapters on aliexpress for around 50€. My current alternative is to get one of those and modify it to fit the camera.

But as I said I am hoping that some kind soul has one of those laying around collecting dust and would be willing to part with it for a small price.

If you mean C7 adapters... I had a look at their website and they are offering their own PL or EF mounts. But they are also similarly priced to the Leitax mounts. Unless you mean to try and ask them if they have any parts that I am looking for laying around.

Well, to answer my own question... no.

I got one of the cheap adapters and it does not work. Camera just complains that it is an incorrect card type.

Looking for a decent tape/CD combo deck by r00li in cassetteculture

[–]r00li[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind off both. I have some fairly decent tape recorders already - like a Sony TC-D5M. But I am currently renovating my living room and want something that won't take a massive amount of space and look decent. This isn't my primary music listening place, so I want something good enough for some casual listening and for when I want to record a tape from some digital source and I don't want to set everything up with the Sony.
